I knew his contract was awful but I just looked at it to remind myself:
2016 $21.67M
2017 $28.167M
2018 $28.167M
2019 $22.5M
2020 $23.5M
2021 $23.5M
2022 $24.5M
2023 $24.5M

He has various opt-out clauses in there but I'm going to go on the assumption that he won't be exercising those.
Holy shit. Should've paid David Price instead

Late to the party but why wasn't Jansen used in the 8th to try and keep it at 3-1? Then see if anything materializes bottom 8 off Chapman. Chapman hasn't been as good in 6-out save situations. Tomorrow is an off day so Jansen would be available for game 6. Anyone else wondering about this?

I definitely thought about this at the time as well.

Dave seemed a bit overwhelmed tonight, but bottom line Lester shut down the Dodgers so it was irrelevant

I know this is just sour grapes but between Lester and Miller I at least hope the Red Sox have learned something this post season. Sometimes that shiny new toy you want isn't as good as what you already have.

I hated the trade when it happened and I hate it still. Good luck to Jon Lester in search of his third ring.

Agreed. When someone proves they can win in Boston you gotta pay extra for it. I try not to think about it but it really bugs me that Lester isn't going to retire as a Red Sox.

It's even worse when you consider that John Henry could've/should've resolved the Lucchino vs. Epstein feud by pushing Larry up and out and giving Theo complete control of the baseball operations, which almost certainly would have led to Tito cementing his status in the dugout as Red Sox manager-for-life. No way Lester is insulted with 4/$70 if those two were still on Yawkey Way.

But for as much as I like Lester, he's going to have to throw a perfecto against the Indians. Because with his move to the bag, every Cleveland runner on first base will have an automatic double. Tito will run him out of the building.

Yes. The weirdest thing about this series so far is the failure of the manager, famous for a stolen base, to put on more steals. I thought, coming into this, that would be one of the main things to look for.

btw, I still like the Dodgers chances. Kershaw will shut them down tomorrow, and pressure of G7 will get to the Cubs and they will choke. It should be pretty epic.

I love Kershaw, so I'm hoping for a Game 7. The baseball fan in me wants to see the Cubs make the series for the storyline, and Lester, Lackey, and Theo, but I can't help rooting for the Dodgers because of Kershaw and Roberts (and because Maddon manages the Cubs).

The cradle of the game.
Expecting Kershaw to have a long leash tonight, with the expectation that the Dodgers pen will be leaned on with Hill starting a game 7. Roberts has to roll with his ace, even if he's not 100% on his game early. Channeling my inner SB XLIX Cris Collinsworth, if you lose (the NLCS) because (Clayton Kershaw) can't (beat the Cubs), so be it. SO BE IT.

If he's on, it's really hard to bet against Kershaw.

In a pre-pregame show, the lovable loser thing was discussed and would the Cubs lose their identity if they win it all. I remember such talk in 2004 about us. They even asked some fans with a straight face if they'd miss the LL image. Then they said what if the Cubs won multiple WS, would they be hated like the Yankees? No, but the Red Sox have won multiple and they're hated. What? Maybe they said sort of hated. Go Kersh!

No, totally hated and worse than Yankees fans these days. This board is loaded with pissants falling all over themselves to root against the Cubs, some even noting they think it would devalue what the Red Sox accomplished in 2004. Screw those people.

I'm on my way to watch the game with friends and 2003 won't leave the back of my mind. It's agonizing. I recall that pain so vividly and remember the empathy I felt for Red Sox fans that year. I was so excited for all of you the next year. What happened was so amazing and I can only imagine how gratifying. Perhaps someday (soon with any luck) I will feel it, too. Until then, though, I'll just feed on the hate I feel every time one of you hopes I never feel that joy.

Anyway, go Cubs! I must hope that somehow Kershaw is hittable tonight.

I'm sure the pissants at Sons of Jody Davis are lovable. Stick with them.

Is it ok to not hate the Cubs but root for the Dodgers?

Wanna make sure of the ground rules, ya know.

Fucking Rays. Drafted Toles and released him for nothing. Front office has really shit the bed on some drafting and prospect decisions in recent years

People can root for who they like, I suppose, it's really just people who make blanket statements that all Cubs fans suck and don't deserve it that pisses me off. But whatever. Game on, we'll see what happens.
