Hi, I need to invest in a higher grade laptop then I normally use. As the new RI State VFW Commander I am focused on training my individual Post Commanders and also revamping State VFW website and doing some graphic design for flyers and such.

I will be facilitating Zooms and sharing my screen to a smart TV or a projector to a screen for the class to observe. We are using a a lot of new apps (to me) to communicate and disburse real time data "Whats app, Google products etc.

Since I am downloading apps and programs I think a lot of memory is needed as I am maxing out my >$300 laptop I am using now. I can wait a few weeks for a sale if that helps, but as of July 1, I am 100mph attacking our priorities. I am not a Mac guy so apple is out.

Thanks for any advice.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 last year and it's been great. I got my wife an Inspiron 14 this year and it's been just as good but it's a little smaller and cheaper. I would assume either would do what you need it to do. Mine was about $800 and my wife's was about $600.

I don't have advice to give, but want to say thank you for all you do. I am always amazed at what you have accomplished in your VFW work. I have been retired 3 years now, and want to get involved, but don't know where to start, have way too much self anxiety and, frankly, don't think I am ready to be back near a military type environment, even though I want to meet and help out people around who i know need it.

Really, that's a long winded way of saying how much I appreciate you.

Quite the humblebrag...

Congratulations on your appointment!
Well, worked hard to get here and to learn the stuff to really make a difference for RI Veterans. We had a banner day yesterday as the Senate passed the Pact Act that pays for and mandates the VA proactively test Veterans exposed to burn pits going back to Desert Storm. This is huge as Agent Orange contact has caused almost twice the deaths of Vietnam Veterans than were killed in Vietnam. RI House last night passed as part of the upcoming year budget the full elimination of the Retired Military Pension tax and the increased deduction of SSI payments from $15k to $20k which means 90% of RI Reitred Veterans will not pay any income tax unless it's from a civilian job they had. This will bring back many of the snowbirds to switch back to RI residency from Florida or some southern state. Sorry for the side track, this is my passion.

I just need a laptop that will do what I need it to do to this year!

Norm, what about wrangling the discount and extended warranty from HP.com that you did previously?

Sure you know this, and maybe someone mentioned it, but don’t forget what I assume is your sales tax exemption! Thanks for your service!
