I was horrified that he would
I’m still worried that he will.

This is one of the most under discussed dumbass coaching moves in recent memory.

Antonio Brown is a Patriot. I just can’t believe it. Then again, I can,...it’s so Belichick.

On one hand, I did wonder how the Patriots had a contract ready relatively quickly.

On the other hand, I also suspect Mayock probably was calling the Patriots to see if they would offer something for the guy before releasing him (if he's like most people and think "only Belichick would deal with this shit"), and the mere call itself was enough to tip them off that Brown might be available on waivers, so they might have been ready for a while.

I can't imagine what cap gymnastics Bill is going through right now. he needs to free like 9M in cap space, right?
If this deal is reported even close to correctly, always possible Rosenhaus is full of shit on what he's reported the terms of Browns' deal is, they're going to need to clear a lot of space.

If he's really getting 15M, even if they add a couple fake years, which I imagine they will, they'll need to make some breathing room for in-season expenditures.

I don't see Jonathan Jones new deal as helping. His cap hit was only 3.095 to begin with. Unless he somehow gets little to no bonus money paid out this season, there isn't going to be much savings there if there's any at all.

I think they're either going to have to restructure Hightower, or extend Devin McCourty. They are the only two guys on the team due salaries of more than 4.25M this year.

They could change Hightowers 7M salary to a 6M signing bonus and a 1M salary and get 3M of room, or extend McCourty and drop his 9M salary to 8M in a signing bonus and 1M in salary to clear 4M in space.

I don't see any other realistic avenues for the Patriots to get any significant cap space this season outside of those two guys.

I’m not sure how Jules will ever not be wide open if both Brown and Gordon are on the field. He’s usually wide open as is.

From a strictly football perspective, AB is more or less a perfect WR for Brady. Impeccable route runner, great hands, amazing ATC ability, master of the 15-20 yard downfield routes.

where the darn libs live
So, I have to tell a story.

I was working tonight at a big club in DC, and I wore a Patriots-related shirt. Had to after today. In walks a group who's bought the biggest and highest prestige table in the club.... and three of the six guys are wearing Raiders gear. I had already had a bunch of people notice my shirt and give me daps or high fives, but these guys are going to be literally a few feet away from me for the next three hours and I didn't want them to get pissed off once they saw my shirt.

I put a longer song on, came off the booth, and immediately told them "Antonio did you wrong, and I'm sorry for that." and they took a look at my shirt and me and immediately started laughing. One guy said "Man, that headache is gone. We lost those draft picks, but it was worth it.... so good luck with him!" I'm lucky enough to have worked at this club long enough to have some pull, so I asked one of the bartenders who is a huge Raiders fan to bring them a bottle of cheap champagne (normally it's outrageously hot women in skimpy clothing, but the bartender was wearing a Raiders shirt), and they were laughing pretty hard at this.

Would I be wrong to say that if the situation was reversed, Pats fans would tell the Raiders guy the same thing and be glad the "headache" was gone?

P.S. Also, when you say "cheap" bubbly, is it like a suburban strip club cheap or a Tokyo hostess club cheap?

Because the contracts are pretty standard except for the amount and they know what they're doing and it's not actually done yet.

Someone check the basket.
Credit. Well played. In my 20’s I was in a theater company and after one of our productions a bunch of us went out to dinner together, including cast member Brooke Smith, aka pit girl. She was mostly nice, but probably got a little annoyed when my friend and I kept saying things like, “She passes me the pitcher or she gets the hose again - she does this every time.”

Just to note, in the 10+ years of living and working in NYC, I always wore a Red Sox hat around but never a Patriots one. I knew where the civility ended.
I live in Staten Island and wear my Patriots hats and shirts EVERYWHERE. Most people are pretty cool about it. It’s a little like they’re broken and there’s nothing to say but “Brady has my total respect...” and when my buddies do give me grief, I just say something about how I’m not sure which super bowl hat I’m currently wearing bc I’ve lost track.

Bruschi doesn't appear to be a big fan of signing. Thinks it might hurt Gordon.

Rex Ryan says AB is the one guy in NFL he wouldn't want to coach.

Also, alert Jemelle Hill that ESPN just said Tomlin should get the Nobel Prize for dealing with AB.

Bruschi sounds like he wants nothing to do with AB as a Pat
He said if he were a captain on the team: “Coach, YOU deal with him; I don’t want to deal with him. You brought him in here knowingwhat he is. It’s on you.”

Did he tell BB this about Moss when they got him?

Wow Colbert turned down a 1st for AB from the Pats.
Pretty funny, if true. Also why BB is the GOAT. Would have no qualms trading anyone to a rival if it was in his best interests and I feel pretty safe in saying it since he did that exact thing before.

No idea. Rex seems to think it will work. Randy is guardedly optimistic. Bruschi seems to think we’re looking at weeks, not months even.

He said Moss was different in that they had conversations when he arrived and Moss was all about trying to win. AB is different in that he’s all about himself.
They all seem sensitive to the potential impact on Gordon. Not that Gordon would seek to emulate him, or that he would steer Gordon wrong, but that you have a locker room on knife’s edge under the brightest of lights, with all that this entails.

Reads threads backwards
I think there's a good chance he just has Dillon- Blount syndrome and Foxboro is the cure.

Hope this works out for the season but could last a day.

If this means the pats lose The Gun Show to another team in the process, that's sad.

Sure---but he came to that conclusion after meeting Moss and playing with him. Those are things he's not doing with AB.
