What was the corresponding roster move? Do we have to make one yet?
Multiple folks saying he can't play tomorrow night, so I would expect no roster move until after Game 1.

I just don't see this guy giving up his phones and tablets during meetings and other poor football-related behaviors for longer than a couple of weeks.

Then he goes bye bye and the Pats continue on.

SteelerFury, GangGreen Forum and Chiefs Planet are a complete dumpster fire now. It’s amazing.
Those places are always dumpster fires. Sure, we spend just as much time here doing forensics on the minutiae that constitutes a season and off-season by one of our local teams, but at least there’s often a payoff. Posting on a Jets or Chiefs forum...you might as well be practicing alchemy in your basement or trying to count to the number blue. It’s just fucking pointless.

Would the MLB equivalent of this be if right before opening day, Max Scherzer took a shit on Dave Martinez's desk, got his contract voided, and then immediately signed with the Red Sox?

I’d go beyond this and say that I don’t trust him, from day one, to not pretend to give them up and still try to sneak one into a meeting. I imagine the Pats have a plan to address this assuming AB actually ever sets foot in the building.

Of course it as I’m typing this I realize that they probably have a room where there’s no cell signals or WiFi access already built and have for some time.

The good news for Steelers fans is they're only five months away from returning to being the only NFL franchise with six Superbowls.

It looks like among receiver numbers only 14, 17, and 86 are available (assuming they’re not giving out 87). I guess he takes 14, unless Watson is willing to switch to 86 or some other receiver gets cut.

By the Yankees maybe.

But it is very hard, almost impossible to void a baseball contract.

Would NE taking to Rosenhaus about a potential AB contract over the summer in hopes of making a trade with PIT be considered tampering? If so, maybe the Pats tampered if PIT wasn't letting AB talk to NE, but he was allowed to talk to OAK to get his new deal. I don't think the Pats tampered, as talks with agents happen all the time across the NFL, especially when they know their guy is a potential cut/trade candidate. It's like NBA free agency- these guys are talking.

I think Rosenhaus knew NE would've offered a similar 1/$15 in the summer if PIT traded him there and probably got pretty quick confirmation after AB was released that it was still on the table.

From chiefsplanet:

“If Roger cares about this league he'll suspend Brown indefinitely and fine the Patriots their next three first-round picks. This type of tampering is completely intolerable”

I am a Steelers fan and I am neither one bit surprised nor one bit upset about this move. In baseball terms, it reminds me of the A-Rod saga. I also have little doubt whatsoever that AB will fall right in line and play by all of BB rules because he will be scoring TDs for a Super Bowl contending team.

All the VERY SERIOUS REPORTERS on Twitter are saying Brown should be suspended, the contract void, and the Patriots investigated for this. God damn, I love this fucking team.
You don’t need to tamper when the guys already want to play for you.

So they would be getting PAID to have taken him... which satisfies the criteria of a number of posters.
Oh... this... this is good.

It’s also pretty awesome that Mike Tomlin was in some shitty Foxboro hotel when he got this news.

Just to give the fan perspective of other teams, this is like if in ~2002 Pedro Martinez had some falling out with the Red Sox because they didn't want to extend him for huge money. Demands a trade, gets traded to San Diego for not an exciting return.

Then in spring training in SD he proceeds to have a personal/professional meltdown to the point that he antagonizes the team enough to suspend him, and demands his own contract be voided, which is granted. Then he signs with the Yankees.

You can obviously fill in the blank on what Red Sox fan emotions would have been then. It's not a perfect analogy because of the different sports and team situations, but you get the idea.

I’m a Pats fan, and I hope this works out...but this is a bullshit analogy. Pedro wasn’t crazy

At this point, we're getting Andrew Luck in 2023 when Brady retires.

Sure, it's not exact, they aren't the same people and contracts in the different sports don't work the same. But a large part of the craziness with AB has happened since he went to Oak, so I think it works as a rough hypothetical. You can pick Manny Ramirez if you really prefer.

We all should be hoping / praying that AB and his agent really did orchestrate this whole thing. Because that would infinitely increase the likelihood of this working out. It would imply that his insane shenanigans are something he can easily shut off and get back to what he's good at doing - catching footballs.

But even if it wasn't orchestrated, AB has to have heard the rumors about the Patriots locker room by now. He knows what he's getting into. And if he can't make it with the Patriots, that will be a serious blow to his chances of finding $$$ elsewhere. The fact that AB signed here so quickly, without checking out places like NYJ or DAL first, gives one hope.

Of course it was orchestrated. When AB found out, looking at his phone, he didn't look surprised or disappointed. He shouted ecstatically and ran outside like a joyful little kid. He wanted to be released. He was hoping to be released. When it happened he was overjoyed.

But tampering is down to a science in the NFL and with agents. Rosenhaus probably had some ridiculously oblique conversation with Belichick months ago that set this up. A conversation, not emails or text and with words that don't clearly mean anything about AB.

I REALLY want it to work out, but the guy has been a complete asshole his whole time with the Raiders.

That's hilarious coming from a fan of a team that just gave a serial abuser of women a massive contract extension.

In Bill We trust. Oh, and for all those claiming there was no way, perhaps you should start adding a little "it would be shocking" or " it seems unlikely " to your posts.
Well, mea culpa. Color me shocked. I thought I knew BB well enough and it turns out he's still full of surprises.
