Just a remarkable match today. I caught Gini’ post-game interview. He said he was angry and disappointed to be left out of the starting XI, but that Klopp told him that “you’re our secret weapon” at half time.
I believe Firmino has already been ruled out against Wolves, and Salah is expected to be cleared for return. Will have to see how injured Robertson is. (Suárez is no longer our asshole, so now he’s just a real fucking asshole.)
Wolves will be looking to cap their excellent season with a shocking win. They’re locked into 7th, so really they have nothing to lose and everything to gain. So far this season, Liverpool dominated at Wolves in a 2-0 win. More recently, Wolves bounced the Red’s B-team from the FA Cup 3rd round, Neves hitting the winner in a 2-1 match that was played pretty evenly, though pretty poorly.
Wolves will defend in numbers and fill the middle of the pitch to try to clog up the attack. TAA & Robertson/Milner will have to make effective use of the space they’re allowed. But the best chances will come from the high press, particularly if Wolves use Boly to start transitions & build ups. He can be forced into mistakes, and the other 2 CBs will struggle to keep up with Mane & Salah in the chaos following a loss of possession. Liverpool’s key on defense will be limiting the space Jota can find, so Fabinho will be busy.
In the end I think Wolves will have a few good chances on the counter, but Liverpool will have more and better opportunities. They’ll need to finish them and pray for a miracle in Brighton.
