Liverpool 2015-16: We Didn't Want To Play in Europe Anyway

It won't come as any surprise that I fuckin' hate Man Utd but I really, really hope they batter Everton in the FA Cup semi final at the weekend. That was a coward's challenge by Funes Mori and for him to have the nerve to point at the Everton badge as he walked off just completes the disgrace.

That shitty little club can fuck off down to the Championship as far as I'm concerned - If we ever want to build a new stadium in Stanley Park they might as well level Goodison at the same time as nobody will notice.

California. Duh.
After that challenge, I wouldn't mind Liverpool hanging 3 or 4 more on them in the last 12 minutes.

This is as sorry and lifeless as I ever remember seeing an Everton side in the Derby. Even in the blowout a couple of years back they showed a better compete and energy level than this.

If not for the FA Cup semi, I wonder if we would've seen something new: both Liverpool-based teams' managers being sacked after a derby. Hell, considering how miserable they've been today with as big a match as MUFC on the weekend in a cup semi-final, I wonder if they'd sack him after tonight anyway.

Well that sucks. I guess we start saving Sturridge for the Euro games and possibly give <ducking> Benteke <still ducking> a league game. Or Klopp just goes back to Firminho as a striker. Hey, maybe Benteke can raise his transfer price with a good game against some flotsam. I almost finished that sentence with a straight face.

Funes Mori can eat an entire bag of dicks. I hope tapping his shirt badge gets him an extra game.

I don't think anybody would see Sturridge as a downgrade, it's just a matter of him being made out of wet napkins and paper mache. His physical presence isn't Origi's, either, so it does change the plan up front. Origi can hold the ball up enough (doesn't need to be long) for one or more of Coutinho, Lallana, and Firmino to get into a dangerous position. Sturridge is going to take the ball himself. He needs good and consistent service. Klopp isn't going to do a straight swap- the tactics will change. That's refreshing after the Rodgers era of <insert unsuitable player here and change nothing>.

This is LFC career make or break (more?) time for Benteke.

I think we'll see Ojo and Ibe tomorrow against Newcastle. Who's up top is the big question? Firmino, Sturridge or does he go to a kid?

What could get interesting is if Man City or Man Utd drop points over the next week. Liverpool has a game in hand against both and trail by 7 and 5 points respectively. If you assume you can take 3 points from that game in hand, you trail by 4 and 2. Here are their remaining schedules:

Man City - Stoke, @Southampton, Arsenal
Man Utd - Leicester, @Norwich, @West Ham
Liverpool - Newcastle, @Swansea, Chelsea, @WestBrom

It's not completely out of the realm of possibility. The question is when does Klopp start focusing on both competitions again. Is it if Man City drops points this weekend? If Man Utd loses to Leicester next? It will be somewhat intriguing and it's something these injuries might preclude doing. Of course, now that I have my hopes up, we'll drop points to Rafa this weekend.

You need to pass both of them for 4th so I'd say you need both to drop points before you even consider doing anything except trying to put the best, very well rested squad out for the Europa semifinal matches. United stands a good chance of dropping points to Leicester but I don't see City doing so against Stoke. City will rest a bunch of key players ahead of their matchup with Real Madrid but Stoke seems to be in the nothing-to-play-for-and-completely-mailing-it-in phase of their season.

Spurs are hot and Stoke aren't awesome, but Stoke looked like they showed up expecting to play a charity match. They're in "don't get hurt so we can enjoy the summer" mode. City will accidentally score three.

I was just about to post that.

Club's statement:

Yesterday, Friday 22nd April 2016, a formal communication was received from UEFA stating that they are investigating a possible anti-doping rule violation by Mamadou Sakho.

The player will respond to UEFA on the matter.

The player is currently not subject to any playing suspension. However, the club, in consultation with the player, has decided that while this process is followed the player will not be available for selection for matches.

There will be no further comment at this time.

After 27 years, in a little under 2 hours time the jury at the Hillsborough inquest will deliver their conclusions. The jurors, who have spent nine full days considering a 14-section questionnaire have reached unanimous conclusions,on 13 of the questions. The remaining section - for which they were told they could return a majority decision - asks whether the 96 were unlawfully killed.

There has never been a better BBC radio commentator than Peter Jones and his closing words for the radio broadcast on that horrific day - combined with some tv pictures - are all the more remarkable given the fact he was a sports commentator, not a news journalist.

Never has the term 'Justice for the 96' been more appropriate...

QUESTION 6: Determination on unlawful killing issue

Are you satisfied, so that you are sure, that those who died in the disaster were unlawfully killed? Yes or no.

Yes

And Question 7, which in essence says did Liverpool fans do anything to cause their own deaths, was No.

Complete and total vindication. Not just of the families, but of Lord Justice Taylor, who basically called this 25 years ago and got shuffled off to a locked room somewhere to keep quiet about it.
