Doubleheader today, beginning at 3:05 p.m. Yanks starting Happ and German. Orioles counter with Hess and Cashner. Two days of inactivity could dull any momentum the Yankees built in Tampa over the weekend. But this is a team that can’t afford to coast through games, or overlook opponents. The Yanks are focused right now. That’s why we love these guys.

Hicks got rained out on Sunday in Scranton too, so three straight for him since his big AAA game Saturday (homer and two booming doubles first three ABs).

Kendrys Morales has big numbers against both Hess and Cashner, 4-8 with a 1.431 OPS against Hess and 7-13 with 3 HRs and a 1.831 OPS against Cashner. Hopefully he is here in time and NY can activate him and send Cortes or Adams back down, as NY really shouldn't need both with an off day tomorrow.

Morales not active for game 1 at least, Hicks sits because I guess he wasn't playing both games anyway.

LeMahieu 2B
Voit 1B
Sanchez C
Frazier DH
Gleyber SS
Gardner CF
Urshela 3B
Maybin RF
Tauchman LF

Aaron Boone said the Yankees hope Morales, if he arrives in time, will be active for the second game of today’s doubleheader.

Aaron Hicks will play in game two. Aaron Boone says he told Hicks he was being "saved for primetime."

I thought Tauchman went down to Scranton during Monday’s flurry but must have been wrong.

No, you were right, he is back just for today because teams are allowed a 26th man on doubleheader days. The story is pretty funny actually (maybe not for him):

"Mike Tauchman will be today’s 26th man. Tauchman said he had just driven to Indy to join SWB... when he introduced himself to manager Jay Bell... Bell told him he has a flight in 3 hours to NYC. Tauchman said Tyler Wade offered to drive his car to Toledo where he will meet team"

Tuning in a little late, so maybe there is more to it beyond a 'third time through the order' thing, but damn, pulling Happ with such a low pitch count in the 6th and going to the bullpen early in game one of a doubleheader seems weird to me.

I do appreciate trying to lock down game one when leading though. Maybe game 2 will be a blowout for either side.

This team’s biggest weapon is the bullpen, now that Kahnle is back to his dominating stuff. If Betances returns even close to his old self, Boone will be pulling starters in the fourth inning.

you watch Boston lose a game like last night when Sale has a historic outing, and they don’t win? Please keep that Boston pen the way it is.

This game has been really fast, shortest game for NY in years if it ends here, I bet.

I wonder if Boone wants to bring Happ back on 3 days rest Sunday assuming Paxton isn’t ready yet.

“Yankees-Orioles Game 1 today took 2 hrs, 12 minutes. That's the Yankees shortest game in nearly 5 years (2 hrs, 7 min on 8/21/2014 vs Astros).”

German with a quick 1-2-3 first. YES just flashed a graphic. German has matched Severino’s fabulous start to the 2018 season. His .170 BAA tops Luis’s mark of around .180.
When you are looking for reasons why the Yankees are winning, it starts with German.

3rd HR of the day for Gleyber, 39 pitches through 4 for German, who seems determined to make Boone's quick hook of Happ in game 1 look prescient.

One of the reasons I like Estrada is he wears No. 30, Willie Randolph’s jersey. David Robertson also wore 30, but Thairo could grow into Willie.

Willie was in his 4th big league season at Thairo’s age, those are big shoes to fill. He was my favorite Yankee as a kid, I hope they bring him back to announce more games.

I was just talking to my cousin, a lifelong Pirates fan. He was moaning over the Austin Meadows trade. I didn’t have the heart to bring up Willie for Doc Medich.

Yanks are 26-15 this year. 28-13 after 41 games last year, including a 17-1 run in late April and well into May. They went from 9-9 to 26-10 in a flash.

Bases loaded, two outs. Severino up. Rothschild visiting. Cessa warming. They’re going to let German stay, it appears.

Britton warming. Mariano just got up in his box seat to take a bow during 7th inning stretch. Did we really get to watch him for 19 seasons?

Luke singles in Thairo, who doubled off the left field fence. Third straight hit for Luke after going 0-for-22. (YES info.)
