Let's Talk About MLBTV

Same here, except about 50% of the time it's just a screen that says commercial break in progress or something like that. I;ve told my wife I'd rather them show ads than 2-3 minutes of silence every half inning.
Enjoy the silence. We get this promo with JD and Ron Darling. The dialogue is lame enough but the fact that it's an '86 Met referencing that series makes it worse. Then, we get about a minute of a jingle that makes an ice cream truck sound like Mozart. Would be great if they just went back to the field with an overhead shot and crowd noise.

Here in Los Angeles, I get an ad for conserving energy in California 1-3 times per commercial break. "This little light o' mine...I'm gonna let it shine..."

It's that and the flashbacks (which are cool, especially now that they mix them up a bit more than they did for the first couple weeks of the season) for about 85% of the time.

That's the one I was getting constantly before I started getting the watch commercials. That jingle is also burned in my head.

Yes, I get this JD/Darling promo every commercial break, sometimes twice.
And, not that it matters, but they didn’t even film it together , as I’ve seen the same Darling commercial with other players when I’ve watched other games.

I live in Vermont and use a VPN to watch the Sox on MLBtv since I don't have cable/satalite. It mostly works fine - but this year I've not been able to watch Sox/mfy unless they are on Fox/ESPN. Anybody else experience this and figure out a workaround?

Watching Sox/Yanks right now in MA via a CA server from NordVPN.

Sorry if being discussed elsewhere, but there seems to be a bit of an online movement to get people to cancel their MLB TV subscriptions to "send a message" to owners during the lockout.

https://fansided.com/2022/02/27/mlbtv-subscription-cancel-mlb-lockout/

I doubt the owners will really notice but I did it anyway. Will re-join when the season starts.
Yes, good reminder, I think the accounts generally renew on or about March 1. Whether it sends a message or not, I also opted out. I'm not into exchanging funds right now given the situation. Presumably there will be some kind of discount offered based on whatever happens. If you pay full price now, you'll probably be credited later (I guess...I believe they did this with Covid-shortened schedules), but...I canceled my long-time subscription today.

Well, it looks like MLB is not renewing them pending the lockout

Update on #MLBTV and MLB Audio subscription renewals: we will not bill for 2022 subscriptions today. Notification about renewal will occur once a new CBA is in effect. All current subscriptions will remain active until then. Subscribers, check your email for important updates.

Edit to add: Smart move. I cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic (they actually renewed my subscription the, but Spring Training did start) and I hopped back on at a proportional price once it started back up. I have been a subscriber maybe since it started. I think all the way back to 2003.

Apple just announced two Friday night games all season (womp womp) will be exclusive to AppleTV+. That’s interesting.
Exclusive as in not available anywhere else, including local outlets. Can't wait for the reaction to the first Friday night Sox game that people can't watch on NESN or MLB.tv.

Didn't they have some of those the last season or two on Facebook or Amazon or something? No one notices until it's their team involved.

So when are we getting charged?

For a deeper conversation, we discussed this a few years ago, but I thought it would be good to revisit it. What teams are your favorites to watch this year? Who are SoSH’s favorite broadcast teams to listen to? I watched a bunch of Rockies games last season after choosing to adopt them as a fun NL team to root for. Their broadcast team is pretty good, but the on field product is just “meh.” SD is a SoSH favorite because they’re a fun team and because D. Orsillo was criminally underrated in his time in Boston. Others?

SD started to join my West Coast rotation when they hired Dick Enberg, before Don joined. Mark Grant is a fun analyst and he and Don are a blast. It's no accident Don and Mark are now the team to beat on the annual Athletic rankings.

I've always enjoyed the SF crew, but they are getting long in the tooth. The SNY crew and broadcast quality are top notch. I enjoy T-Mac and Kruk on Phillies games. I prefer Jays games with Dan Shulman doing PBP. I like Boog doing Cubs game, Anderson is solid with the Brewers, and Benetti and Stone are good with the White Sox.

Joe Davis is a boring replacement for Vin in LA.

After that it's blah and ear bleeders.

I watch too much baseball!

Mets games are fantastically well produced, and Cohen-Hernandez-Darling are knowledgeable, funny, and have excellent chemistry.

SD for sure. Angles lineup could be fun to watch too.

I switched over to Angels whenever Ohtani was batting. He’s just electric.

From there it depends on my mood. I’ll hate watch the Yankees or tune to the Mets if I’m flipping around on a non Sox night as I’m in NY

If Sox are on and I have mlbtv going, I’ll also watch a good pitching matchup or if I have a lot of fantasy guys in a game.

Otherwise I’ll usually flip to games that have nice ballparks or backdrops if it’s just background watching. SF, BAL, SD, CHC, PIT

I cancelled my mlb.tv subscription today, before it renews
Got an email about it yesterday for renewal, but I'm not using it enough to justify the cost and with my issues (see above in September) last year, I'm not paying for this again. At least not at full price

Might take up that offer that was posted in the other thread about the MLBPAA subscription, but unlikely

Am I reading this right?

I was looking at re-upping my MLB Extra Innings package and learned that every Friday this season, two MLB games are exclusive to Apple TV. No Extra Innings. No NESN/YES/MASN. So if I understand correctly, they are now requiring out of market fans to subscribe to:

1) Extra Innings
2) Local cable sports network (for games against local teams)
3) Apple TV (for some random Friday night games)

In order to see all your team's games.

The Friday night games can be watched on Apple TV+ without a subscription "for a limited time" (who knows how long that lasts for).

It might get worse. I just saw something about Sunday morning games on Peacock. All I saw was a headline and it was behind an Axios paywall that I don't have a sub to, but has anyone else caught wind of this yet?

This was new to me - we’ll need to subscribe to 4? different services to watch Sox games in 2023 onward.

“According to the Wall Street Journal, part of NBC’s new rights deal with MLB will involve broadcasting Sunday games on its streaming service. And to avoid conflict with most games played at 1 p.m. ET throughout the league, some of the 18 broadcasts scheduled for Peacock could start as early as 11:30 a.m. ET or just before noon.

The Peacock Sunday broadcasts will be exclusive to the streaming service and not available on MLB teams’ respective regional sports networks (and thus, not MLB.TV either). NBC is also expected to stream Monday and Wednesday telecasts (previously shown on ESPN) during its two-year deal. Previously, those telecasts were not exclusive but simulcasts from RSNs and blacked out in local markets.

MLB and NBC Sports have yet to officially announce their new deal, but it’s expected to be finalized this week now that baseball and the players union have agreed to a new collective bargaining agreement. The 2022 MLB season is now scheduled to begin on April 7.”

The more they move away from having all of the games on MLB.tv the more likely I am to just pirate stream the games again.

This is where I am as well. I already pirate stream the games that are blacked out here in NC (Baltimore, Washington, Atlanta and Cincinnati).
Yeah, that’s bullshit for us. You want to black NC’ers out, fine, pick a team. We can’t be in all 4 places at once, so pick one to screw us on.

The biggest surprise is freaking Cincinnati. They’re only 4 states and 425 miles from here. I’ve never met a Reds fan in my life and we have zero access to their affiliated tv network.

We are blacked out from Houston, Texas, KC and St Louis. I am in Little Rock. As far as I can tell, I am unable to get any of those teams' local channels where I am at. The whole thing is ludicrous.

If Congress ever did kill MLB's antitrust exemption, the blackout rules would be one of the first things affected, I believe they would disappear (source: an article I read in the last week or so and am too lazy to google for).
