The Dodgers gave him 900 PAs the last two seasons to try to figure it out, and he rewarded them with a .611 OPS. His situation seems pretty similar to Joey Gallo to me, I personally wouldn't bet on either.

I want zero part of Bellinger. Judge would be fantastic, but I’d assume the cost it would take to outbid NY would be ridiculous.

Bellinger is essentially a lottery ticket. He's not the answer to our outfield problem as we'd still need a solid, reliable run-producer somewhere out there. I'd probably rather get Haniger than Bellinger, as I see him as slightly less risky, but I'd still prefer someone with less risk. But that would probably have to come through trade, as the FA pickings are slim.

That strikes me as a more emotional calculation of the odds that tracks with actual lottery tickets.

After watching JBJ, Franchy, & Dalbec eat enough PAs that you have to assume that they constituted an actual plan, the risk is that Bellinger eats another couple hundred PAs providing the same offense he has for the last 900 while also blocking another option who might not have as much name recognition, but will provide more real production.

This against the odds of him returning from his injury to put up something even like his 2020, but really looking for a 2019-like jackpot, which seems highly unlikely IMO. It's the dream that fuel lottery sales, but the reward is otherwise just as fleeting...

Bellinger isn’t even first on my list for players DFA’d by the Dodgers. Edwin Rios is a very interesting bat. His career wRC+ is 112 and is dragged down by a horrendous stretch where he played through an injury. He can DH and backup 1B and 3B. He’s a much better roster option than Hosmer.
