Team leader in ERA (qualifying)? Eovaldi
Team leader for Batting Average (qualifying)? Devers

Player to throw the first punch of the year (no shoves - a true swing)? Izzy Alcantara
Player with the greatest number of suspension days? Barnes
Stupidest Facial Hair at All-Star Break? A mullet showdown between Strahm and Sawamura would be more fun.

By the way, this exercise emphasized to me how antiquated the “qualifying” thresholds are. Relics of a different era.

Yeah, I'm sure there's a better way to capture "significant contribution" in the contemporary game. For this sort of thing, I think there's some value in an official standard we can all point to. I mean, this year's no-prize is going to be so fabulous that I don't want some disappointed number-cruncher banging on my door at 10pm to argue their version of "significant".

Miami (oh, Miami!)
LATE SEASON DRAMA!!!!

The Red Sox are 76-84 with two games left to play, leaving a possible spread of 76-77-78 wins.

Shocked at how few posters are still in the running for total wins. Realistically with 8 games left, seems there are only 4 still in it:

79 Wins - @Hank Scorpio and @Curtis Pride
75 Wins - @Toe Nash and @OCD SS
The Panel of SoSH Poll Savants (consisting of myself and my largely indifferent cat) has been convened and these are their pronouncements:

1) In the case of 76 wins, either @Toe Nash or @OCD SS will be the victor. The tie-breaker will be determined by the greatest number of correct answers to the poll questions. If two baseball-players tie for an answer, identifying one of them will be deemed a correct answer for the contestant.
2) In the case of 78 wins, either @Hank Scorpio or @Curtis Pride will be the victor, subject to the same tie-breaker.
3) In the case of 77 wins, all four contestants will be subject to the tie-breaker.
4) Each contestant is allowed one challenge to the Savants rulings on their answers - the challenge will be referred to the Mods for resolution.
5) After the resolution of any challenges, if the tie breaker is unable to resolve the above, the otherwise-deadlocked contestants be decided in favor of the poster with the greatest number of game-threads posted to. (Retroactive game thread posting will not be considered.)

Current (AFAIK - please check my work!!) Leaders and Runners Up for the poll questions:

-Team leader in Wins? Wacha, 11. Pivetta, 10. (Eovaldi 5)
-Team leader in Saves? Houck, 8. Schreiber, 8. Barnes 7.
-Team leader in ERA (qualifying)? Schreiber, 2.25. Houck, 3.15. (Eovaldi 4.05)
-Team leader for Batting Average (qualifying)? Bogaerts, .305. Devers, .296.
-Team leader in HR? Devers, 27. Story 16.
-Team leader in Steals? Story, 13. Bogaerts 8.
-Team leader in HBP? Boegarts, 10. Devers/Refsnyder/Pham, 6.
-Player who plays the majority of 1B games after the All-Star Break? Dalbec, 78 games. Casas, 26 games.
-Player who plays the majority of RF games after the All-Star Break? Verdugo 50+, depending on how you count split games, but no one else is close.
-Player who makes the Opening Day Roster, who subsequently spends the greatest number of days on the IL? Eovaldi, 75 days. Hernandez, 72 days.
-Pitcher not on the Opening Day Roster who makes the greatest subsequent contribution (WAR)? Schreiber, 2.6 bWAR. Bello, 0.4 bWAR.
-Non-Pitcher not on the Opening Day Roster who makes the greatest subsequent contribution (WAR)? Refsnyder, 1.1. Reese McGuire, 0.9. (Casas 0.1)
-Player to throw the first punch of the year (no shoves - a true swing)? none-?
-Player with the greatest number of suspension days? none-?
-Stupidest Facial Hair at All-Star Break? We neglected to do a poll this year - one must be done.

Current leader answers in the order of: Scorpio, Pride, Nash, OCD, with Bold as a Hit, regular as a miss, and Italic as currently unknown:

-Team leader in Wins? Eovaldi (13), Eovaldi, Eovaldi, Pivetta.
-Team leader in Saves? Barnes (22), Barnes, Barnes, Barnes.
-Team leader in ERA (qualifying)? Eovaldi (3.84), Eovaldi, Eovaldi, Eovaldi.
-Team leader for Batting Average (qualifying)? Bogaerts (.296), Bogaerts, Devers, Devers.
-Team leader in HR? Devers (37), Devers, Devers, Devers.
-Team leader in Steals? Bradley Jr. (8), Story, Durran, Story.
-Team leader in HBP? Dalbec (9), Devers, Dalbec, Vazquez.
-Player who plays the majority of 1B games after the All-Star Break? Dalbec, Casas, Dalbec, Casas.
-Player who plays the majority of RF games after the All-Star Break? Verdugo, Hernandez, Durran, JBJ.
-Player who makes the Opening Day Roster, who subsequently spends the greatest number of days on the IL? Hill, Wacha, Verdugo, Hill.
-Pitcher not on the Opening Day Roster who makes the greatest subsequent contribution (WAR)? Sale (1.4), Paxton, Pineda, Paxton.
-Non-Pitcher not on the Opening Day Roster who makes the greatest subsequent contribution (WAR)? Durran (0.7), Casas, Durran, Casas.
-Player to throw the first punch of the year (no shoves - a true swing)? Verdugo, Invalid, None, Nobody.
-Player with the greatest number of suspension days? Verdugo, Whitlock, Sale, Sale.
-Stupidest Facial Hair at All-Star Break? Verdugo, Vazquez, Verdugo, Verdugo.

Absent a brawl in the last two games, and regardless of Barnes tying the Save total, I make that out as (Correct/Pending) for Scorpio: 4/1, Pride: 3/1, Nash 3/1, OCD 3/2.

Thus, a determination of the stupidest facial hair at the all-star break might produce a tie between Hank Scorpio and Curtis Pride should the team finish with 76 or 77 wins.

Toe Nash and OCD SS remain tied at their end of the field with 3 correct answers, but a win by Pivetta would give OCD 4 correct answers. (As a Pivetta win would also mean a a game-win, this could produce a tie between Scorpio and OCD (and possibly Pride, depending on the resolution to the facial-hair issue), should the team finish at 77 wins.)

Drama!

If they play today, they probably win. I don't see Kevin Cash going all out in what is a meaningless game for his team. The starters maybe get one AB and the rest is bench guys, including any fighting for that last postseason roster spot. The pitching is likely going to be bullpen guys who need the work, maybe a starter in what would be a bullpen day. It looks like 78 is there for the taking.
