Not Lynn (or Ocean Side)
I’m a couple margaritas in, appropriately, on this day, so pardon the question.

Does anyone remember the vendor at Fenway who used to characteristically yell an enthusiastic, loud rendition of the product name? It wasn’t Cracker Jack, but something like “Snack and Pack!!” It’s driving me crazy because early onset Alzheimer’s combined with drink and what not.

I hate to hijack, but what was the name of the peanut vendor on Yawkey Way in the '80's who threw the bag at you? I remember him like it was yesterday.

HOT PIZZA, COLD SODA, WRAP EM UP, TAKE EM INSIDE. This was an outside vendor out near the team store maybe 15 years ago. He was very enthusiastic.

If it’s the guy I’m thinking of he got himself onto a season of Big Brother or something like that before settling in as a math teacher somewhere.

He also worked the Garden; I found him very entertaining.

This guy was Fenway to me as a kid. My Dad would take us in and we’d get peanuts from him. He had such a recognizable voice. Somebody had posted it on here like 2 years ago and it shot me back to being 12 years old. The WGBH Twitter profile posted it (same as the Youtube) and has some great other videos on there of Boston in the 70’s/80’s/90’s.

A part of me misses that Fenway. A small part. Those crowd shot videos could have had a young JOBU in there as I attended my first Sox game in that Fenway era (early 90’s). Looking back at the videos it’s just looks so drab, worn out, and depressing. I guess it kind of was though. It certainly has a different feel and vibe to it today. What the owners have been able to turn the park into has been amazing. They modernized Fenway tremendously yet have kept it mostly charming… flashing homerun/walkoff lights aside.

Here is my stub from my first game against the California Angels… $10!!64445

My first game in person was in May 1989 against the Rangers. These videos instantly take me back to that era. The park was so much more drab and rundown…you are totally correct on that standpoint. The videos give me nostalgia but from a pure fan experience, it was absolutely worse than it is now…price point not withstanding.

The funny part about that game was I was only in 2nd grade but the Margo scandal with Wade Boggs had just happened and every time he got up to bat the entire crowd was chanting “MAR-GO, MAR-GO” and then the drunks in the bleachers brought a blowup doll to make fun of it and when i asked my mom what they were punching up in the air in addition to the usual beach balls, she just said “oh those are some college kids just being funny”. I was too young to understand the whole thing but years later I still remembered it when I found out the real reason…LOL.

Fun times though. The crappier park back then had its own charm to it. Esp all the college idiots in the bleachers (many of whom got priced out 15-20 years later)…but from a purely objective evaluation of the park conditions, it’s far better now.

My first game was also in May 1989. Did you see the Clemens/Ryan matchup too?

I think I may be thinking of George Jacobs, "The Peanut Man". He sold peanuts outside from 1944 to 1988 when he died, and then his son took over before they got rid of outside vendors in 1992.

There were a few guys inside Fenway who had pretty good accuracy tossing bags of peanuts. They'd go half way down the aisle and a couple of rows deep.
When I was there, the main peanut vendor behind home plate taped a thumbtack to his index finger. When he made a sale, he popped the bag and squeezed all the excess air out of it. He claimed it gave him better range and accuracy.

When I was around 10 or 11 I went to a game with a friend. When the ice cream guy yelled “Ice Cream” he would yell back “I scream too”. Killed me every time.
