He’s not even scoring much in isolation. Coming into this series my expectation was that the Cs would live with Kyrie and Luka getting 25-35 each by playing them straight up and just making sure all the other Dallas players don’t beat them. But Kyrie hasn’t been able to do his Kyrie stuff against PP or Hauser, the two weakest defenders Boston puts out there.
Coming into the series I summarized that Dallas on O would be playing 2 on 5 and on D they’d be playing 3 on 5. That simple assessment has come to fruition big time. The only two guys Brad would want off of the Mavs roster are possibly PJ, in the Hauser role and Lively, in the Kornet role.
Through two games, I'm not sure anyone could put Kyrie higher than 6th overall, and I might drop him to 7th or even 8th, behind KP and Al.
I have tickets for that game. I’m obviously rooting for a sweep, but if they drop one in Dallas, we will greet Irving with the attention he’s requesting.
I find myself not thinking about Kyrie at all. Like not even during the game. I am at peace with that.
Totally agree. It's been nice but odd wondering how Luka and Dallas' bigs will do coming up the court and Kyrie is an afterthought.
I am sure people have numbers to back up why I am wrong here, but I find myself thinking that Kyrie is still a good player who hit his ceiling a few years ago and whose reputation is getting a lot of mileage from one shot in 2016. He's no longer the elite guy he once was and certainly isn't a scrub, but is now overrated.
This is the irrational hope of a fan. But, I hope in his own unique way Kyrie is above playing well against the Celtics becasue that is what a less complex guy would do.

Ummm you do know who the new owner of the Mavs are right? The NBA refused to let her be governor so ESPN doesn't talk about it at all.
I can't get into V&N and I don't know if it is discussed but ... without getting into the politics there is a non zero chance that Kyrie is playing like shit and smiling through it due to his feelings about the new owner. There is zero chance Kyrie stays pass this contract.

Yes, a condition of her majority ownership stake is she cannot ever become governor (they used the gambling as the excuse I believe to avoid it is about the politics of it). Even there, the NBA suggested keeping Cuban around. If the Mavs lose Game 3, there could a fantastic show in Game 4
He’s actually been pretty engaged in that discussion, posting frequently about it online. As early as October 11th he called out “tough talking media heads” who “get on TV and social platforms to condemn people who stand by the oppressed” but ignore when “crimes are being committed against humanity”.
On November 22nd he appeared at the game and in the post game press conference with a keffiyeh on his head. Interestingly no one in the press asked him about it.
Most disturbingly, in a January game in Utah he seemed annoyed by a group of Jewish rabbi bringing “I’m Jewish and proud” signs to the game. He briefly interacted with them court side before saying “don’t gotta bring something like that to the game” while bringing the ball up the court.
So he hasn’t avoided controversy on these issues, though it does appear that he has engaged with the media better when these issues come up (for example, he denied being annoyed when asked about the incident with the rabbi) and the media has been less inclined to provoke him.

That's a painful listen. I can't comment on whether the coaching is awful or not, but the analyst is a living embodiment of "a face for radio and a voice for print".

I tried watching the game on delay and saw the first quarter without spoilers. Then I took my kids to school and the big Estonian guy here said "Go Cs!" Then I got a congratulatory note from a local Czech. I might have to wake up for Game 4. On the other hand, I would have thrown up in the fourth.
My condolences. Ze Frau and I woke up (by chance) around 4:30am local time and staggered out of bed to watch the last 10 min of regulation, joining at exactly the time the lead collapsed from 21 to 2. Then we tried to go to bed and spent the next few hours skittering over the surface of REM sleep.
I thought the difference was pretty clear: he just made his threes, particularly the contested ones. He had a few nice assists but still wasn't facilitating at a high level. His finishing at the rim has been good all series. This was Kyrie's "hey look I'm still great game" but I still don't feel like how he was playing really scared the Cs.
