I still think we can make the ECF if we get Smart back, get Rozier to near-100%, and have Monroe remember how to make shots at the rim. But there go our already-dim title hopes for the year.

That's all she wrote. Good year for the young guys to develop and get a boatload of playing time. Let LeBron get out of the East and run the league straight to a banner in 2018. But until then go balls to the wall and see what happens!

Welp. No expectations for the playoffs, but hope that we can avoid this shit next year.

This sounds legitimately career threatening. Its not an acute situation. Its a pre-existing condition. That they KNOW 100% he cant play in a month is a terrible sign moving forward

This cements the right way to watch the Celtics from here on out. No expectations of winning even a series but it will still be fun to see the kids compete and get playoff experience on the fly. Even without Kyrie, they have been a joy to watch.

And Stevens probably wont win COTY but if they make it a few rounds, it will validate what has been a masterful season on him/the staff's part.

He had knee surgery, even minor arthroscopic procedures come with long recovery times. Three weeks would have brought them into the second round of the playoffs. What were you guys expecting? There was never any way they were going to risk aggravating that knee injury for a key player.

They're still going to the Finals. Stevens will cement his status as a deity.

No expectations
High hopes

Rozier’s agent must be happy. Getting the job in the playoffs for Westbrook basically got Reggie Jackson his big deal.

If Rozier has a good playoffs, this might ultimately help us this summer.

Come back down off the ledge. At best this was a 4-5 week return which takes us to the ECF. What could make a knee injury a chronic problem is rushing back prematurely into the intensity of EC Finals games.

LeBron will be absolutely wrecked by the Rockets or Warriors if he gets that far. I don't get why all of a sudden the mainstream pundits seem to think the Cavs with their #27-ranked defense can compete with those teams.

On topic: dammit, this news totally freaking sucks. Cs with a healthy Hayward, Kyrie, Smart, Theis would totally have won the East, and made the finals way more interesting than TOR, CLE, or PHI will.

Heal up, Kyrie, get a whole bunch of that PRP therapy, and see you in the 2019 Finals.

Jaylen started to blossom with postseason PT last season, let's do the same for Tatum.

This team is still gonna be fun to root for in the postseason. I want MaMo talking shit, Tatum drilling jumpers, Brown dunking on fools, Rozier notching a triple-double or two.

Welp, There goes the season.

Honestly this makes zero medical sense from what we know at this point. Potential theories include some combination of:

1. Infection from recent surgery
2. Found something at recent surgery they didn’t report yet
3. New injury or hardware complication during rehab (they left some hardware in apparently)
4. Kyrie spooked by team docs (bad press from IT situation?)
5. Kyrie’s team and Boston front office tension leading to Kyrie deciding not to play
6. Kyrie needed to go on a quest to find the end of the Earth

According to Woj on ESPN, "no chance" Hayward returns this year either.
Not that there was much chance, but I think this goes hand in hand with the Kyrie news.

Next season is gonna be a blast.

Celtics All-Star Kyrie Irving will undergo surgery on Saturday and miss four-to-five months.
Yeah, this makes sense. And it should help BSJ come off the ledge.

Sounds like they removed some gear from his knee and hoped it alleviated his pain. It didn't, so the pain is coming form the screws themselves. By removing them, it makes the structural integrity of the patella weak again. Until the holes in the bone heal, he has to stay off it (treat it like its broken again). Then he'll have to rehab to get the range of motion back in the leg.

I'd rather have him do this now then drag it into next year (or the later parts of his career). Get healthy and come out slinging next season.

Edit: looks like the bacterial infection may have contributed to the pain. Either way, get the screws out, stay off the leg, then rehab and crush next season.

Celtics say Kyrie’s recent surgery revealed a bacterial infection. Screws from 2015 procedure being removed to help clear the infection.
Damn good call.

Guys, no ledge. Not saying it IS career threatening. But I feel far better about Hayward than Irving right now.

If its really just to remove the screws, ok i guess.

Definitely not good news, even with the silver lining of the younger players getting more time in the playoffs. Let's hope this surgery clears up the knee issue long term and that Kyrie can come back strong with Hayward next season.

Just wait until the Cs sign IT next year on a make-good deal as a hedge against Kyrie taking more time to recover.

Only about 17% serious . . .

Which reminds me, has anyone here heard anything on Smart returning for the playoffs or not?

At least now they know. Other than Smart, this is their team. It sucks, But this has been house money from Game1 Q1.

FYI, Scal didn't offer much on Kyrie in readily admitting that he isn't a doctor and openly mocking the producers who immediately called him to come on air to discuss any injury he knows nothing about (love me some Scal!). Other tidbits he threw out.....

* Celtics have decisions to make on Rozier and Smart this summer (nothing we didn't already know).

* Scal isn't on the Brad COY bandwagon thinks Casey is the deserving recipient.

* Never got off the Cleveland bandwagon and expects them to easily represent the East.

* Doesn't feel Toronto has chance vs Cavs, pointed out that they have lost 9 consecutive playoff Game 1's, and would take Philly over them if Embiid is healthy.

Yeah. Are we talking voices in HRBs head? Guys down at the local packie? Or is Zarren a member here under some obscure username and he is PMing people inside color about a Nad(i)r/Larkin for Claw swap that's brewing?

Edit: Tread carefully with this rumor. Our friend BSF's head might explode if Ainge somehow acquired Kawhi.

Honestly this sucks for this year but I think his knee will be fine for next year

I’m at the Sox game, my fingers are too cold to type anything more

What's kind of funny is that one of my first reactions was to think "dang, if only he had gotten the surgery earlier we could have pulled a Spurs-for-Duncan style tank" but realized in the end they still would have been way too good given the development of Brown/Tatum/Rozier.
