Got it. I actually Shaq deserved it in 2005, but same idea.
Yup. It’s also incredible revisionist history. Kobe in the post-Shaq pre-Gasol stretch from 2005-2007 was an absolute chucker who literally quit on his team to prove a point on how valuable he was.

Somewhere
Anyways, the answer to "who should have won those MVPs" is Lebron. You can repeat that for every year in the decade starting from ~2004.

Credible argument for KG in 04-05 though.

edit: love the Joe Morgan reference, tho. What did that mean, again?
Joe Morgan’s best known saying when he was the Red Sox manager was “6-2 and even.” Pressed for his meaning when he used it with reporters, Joe laughs. “I was just trying to baffle them the way they were always trying to baffle me. You have to remember. I grew up around here!”

Strange that Kyrie of all people would think of this as MVP worthy.

Isn't he just substituting 1s for Ls so that phonetically A11even is "eleven"? That's what I thought (much like Re2pect and 7uice... they're all pretty silly)

I'm sure the Nets fan(s) is/are thrilled
Meh. They probably aren't going anywhere without Kyrie as currently constructed They probably aren't going anywhere with Kyrie either, but there's always the small chance he falls in line and finally accepts his Robin role. I mean, he's already been on teams with LeBron, KD and Harden so chances are against it but some people wise up with age. On paper though, a Kyrie/KD/Simmons core should work well. Of course, who knows when Simmons will even play again.

I'm guessing they can still trade Kyrie too and maybe there are some teams interested in Kyrie for 1 year rather than 4.

Just looking around, I'm not sure what teams could even use Kyrie though. Denver and Dallas make some sense. I doubt Brooklyn would be interested in MPJ though. Dallas could send out 2 of Dinwiddie, Hardaway Jr and Bertans. Not sure why the Nets would be interested in that either.

There's Miami, but the Nets wouldn't want Lowry and Miami doesn't have much to sweeten the pot.

Maybe Minnesota would prefer him over DLo, but DLo and KAT are BFF.

A few posters hit it on the head. Kyrie thinks he's a KD type talent and he isn't. Teams aren't going to drastically alter their lineups and plans for KI. Add KD to almost any team in the league and they become a contender, even with a depleted post trade roster. That's not true with KI.

KI is in the same tier as Jaylen Brown, Brandon Ingram, Zach LaVine. Outside of Kyrie and Ben Simmons, those players normally don't demand trades. They bought into their hype. Kyrie is an incredibly gifted and efficient scorer who can distribute the rock some. He could learn a few things from The Chair on defense. It's funny because if he were still in Boston, a lot of his strengths would be on display and a lot of his weaknesses would be hidden. Again, on paper, a TL/JT/JB/MS/KI starting lineup is a thing of beauty. In reality, KI probably makes the team 10 games worse.

You'd think there would be a good match somewhere for a guy who scores 25+ on a 60%ish TS% and a 30%+ assist rate who doesn't really turn the ball over. I struggle to find an obvious one. I think Denver and Dallas could actually work but I don't see how they'd match up. Though a Murray/Kyrie back court with Jokic would give up a lot of points. Dallas also just acquired Wood who has his own question marks. There aren't many teams in contention without a 2nd star/scorer and any team on the cusp isn't going to want a 30 year old Kyrie.

There are the 2 LA teams but I'm not sure how they satisfy Brooklyn.

Except it’s a fake quote. Kyrie didn’t actually say that and the whole “irreparable” report is made up.
What is this world of media coming to if we can’t trust the word of Ballsack Sports?!

Watching the Resident Evil series on Netflix there’s an Irving jersey in one of the opening scenes. Couldn’t tell which team, though. Sort of looked like it could have been Celtics, but not sure (wasn’t a standard jersey)

Has anyone built a Random Kyrie Tweet Generator yet? Like the Wu-Tang Name Generator, that could be fun.

I so do wish Kyrie wasn't such a headcase. He is my favorite player to watch with the basketball in his hands.
You have to wonder if the unpredictability with the ball in his hands is part and parcel with the unpredictability when he opens his mouth.

Does anyone here still believe he was joking when he said the world was flat? I’m waiting for the tweet from Kyrie telling everyone to calm down and that our overreaction proved the point he was trying to make.

Steph: jokes on a podcast that the moon landing might be fake news; gets scolded by his BFF Obama; makes UnderArmour design custom sneakers featuring craters and the US flag with profits supporting STEM programs in schools. And still brings it up five years later (most recently in a great Rolling Stone profile) as a learning moment for him about the importance of wise speech.

Kyrie: hold my beer.

Kyrie and “learning moment” just don’t go together.

Anyone see Jaylen retweet Kyrie’s above tweet then delete it? I know he goes to prestigious schools and nods inquisitively when smart people talk, and he even quoted Foucault once (!) but he’s a fucking idiot.

Good to see they've reached the exalted "hey, watch me stick my tongue into the light socket to see if the power's on" level of higher consciousness.

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/34672230/gave-4-year-100m-plus-extension-unvaccinated
NEW YORK -- Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving says he turned down a four-year extension prior to the 2021-22 season because of his decision not to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
"I gave up four years, 100-and-something million deciding to be unvaccinated and that was the decision," Irving said during Nets media day on Monday. "[Get this] contract, get vaccinated or be unvaccinated and there's a level of uncertainty of your future, whether you're going to be in this league, whether you're going to be on this team, so I had to deal with that real-life circumstance of losing my job for this decision."

The dumb thing about it is that I'm sure Kyrie could have found someone to not administer the vaccine... if you get what I'm saying. I'm sure there are a ton of high profile athletes who did that.

Hell I bet the team doctor would have been willing. Kyrie just wants to be an attention whore.

Meh. Not to defend Kyrie, but leaving everything else behind, I'd definitely look better at someone who just refused the vaccine as opposed to someone who lied about it (and got another person to commit fraud to get them through it).
