His reach extends to all corners of the Erath.
They keep going around and around on this issue
I am sorry for the content free post but I thought you should both know I spit out a little Cumbies coffee at this post-couplet. Dynamite content.
Actually I'll add some content...Id like to see Kyrie on a west coast or southern team so he can alienate another part of the country since he's covered the midwest and northeast.

Kyrie Irving and the New York Knicks deserve each other as few have ever deserved each other. I almost want Brad to throw in assets a la Danny in those 4-way-deals ca. 2013 to find a way to make this happen.

Cumbies coffee is underrated. One of my guilty pleasures (decaf) and for $0.99 to boot!

Agreed. Depending on my mood the person behind me ends up getting a free coffee as well...pay it forward!

Kidding aside about alienating other parts of the country, I'm torn between wanting him on the knicks (because I agree with your stance that they deserve each other), but selfishly I am just so tired of hearing about this guy I really want him as far away from the Celtics as possible.

Kemba would likely have to go back to the Nets to make it work.

I want Kyrie on the Lakers.
Dunno, agree it sounds magical but if anyone could keep KI on track it’s Lebron. Any success for those two is something I don’t need…remember he’s not even hurt just a lunatic.

Durant really thinks he is on a higher plane than everyone else and is willing to tie his career to a complete anchor in Kyrie. I'm sure if you asked him he would talk about how us mere mortals "can't see their vision" and that the media just works against them.

Durant just signed an extension. Is he prepared to sit out like Simmons did? I doubt it.
Players almost always get what they want in these scenarios. I'd hate it if I were Brooklyn but they have no choice but to run it back and hope Nash can pull it off.

Vegas has the Nets with currently the third best odds to win the title next year, behind GS and Boston. That seems very high for a team that got worked in a first round sweep, and has a billion question marks.

Vegas baby. For every skeptic like you, there's some guy who needs dental work who's PUMPED that he's getting +650.

I'm not sure he's anchoring himself to Kyrie. I just think he sees the Brooklyn roster without Kyrie and doesn't want to waste his last few years on a team going nowhere.

I'd love to see him end up in Dallas or Denver though I don't see either happening. It would be good for the NBA, though.

Or you know, Boston. F Bradley Beal.

edit: For all Kyrie's fault, if he's motivated and healthy, he's a tremendous basketball player. Those are big ifs, but the talent is there.

Is he? He's old, can't play defense, and may struggle in the NBA playoffs against superior length as his athleticism wanes. He came into the playoffs playing at a pretty high level and should have been well-rested; but after a great Game 1, he was rarely heard from and his team was swept right out of the playoffs.

Whether or not KD is tying himself to Kyrie now is not that relevant, he tied himself to him when they went to Brooklyn.

I mean, we've spent a bunch of time discussing the twofold issues:
1. BKN's supporting cast isn't very good (barring a surprise bouceback year from Simmons)
2. Kyrie's value is surprisingly low in terms of what he'd bring back for his talent level.

KD probably correctly looks at that and says...
1. If Kyrie is back and plays, and Simmons is back 100% (mentally and physically) this is a good team with real potential once you shuffle around the edge pieces.
2. If Kyrie isn't back and we get flotsam for him, this team isn't very good and I'm wasting one of my few good years.

He's right. For the GM moving on from Kyrie might be the right choice, but it isn't going to result in a better roster short term

If this happens and Boston is willing to give up Brown, they'd have to be considered the overwhelming favorites to land Durant, correct? The question is if Boston would want to do that. My answer is a resounding yes, I know there are some others here who would disagree.

Where else would Durant want to go where the team could give back anything near value? Golden State for Kaminga? lol.

The answer is YES. In a cocaine heartbeat, the Celtics make that trade.

Durant swings a much bigger stick than Simmons does.

I can’t imagine there is anyone in the organization who wouldn’t move Jaylen for Durant. Much like Horford’s years ago but to an ever greater degree…..Durant projects to age very well. Sign me up for his age 34-37 years thank you.

Even the Kyrie thread ends up in a conversation of how to send Brown out of town.
Ok, maybe we could trade Smart for Durant? Nets would be all over that, I'm sure. We could throw in Grant and Nesmith to sweeten the pot.

It's actually a fairly natural conversation here. This Kyrie-Nets blowup, with Durant wanting out, has always been a very viable scenario for anyone who's paid attention to Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant the past 5 years. And if Durant wants out, Boston has to be considered at or near the top of the favorites to land him.

I'm not saying that I wouldn't pull that trigger.

But it's the same few people looking to move JB. And it's the Kyrie thread. Figured it was worth mentioning.
Again, what direction did you think the Kyrie thread was going to take this offseason? This domino effect has always been a very plausible scenario. Nobody mentioned it here until Woj went on TV and said the entire Nets star team scenario is teetering.

Honestly, this is developing into a scenario where the Nets probably should move on at this point and get what they can for Durant, unless maybe they can get a Beal or something in and Durant would accept that.

Real Real Chance at a Championship (or 2) vs Having to root for Front Runner Kevin Durant.

It's fun rooting against Durant, but he's also amazing to watch and nobody can say anything bad about his performance on the court, either in Brooklyn or in OKC/GS (not even at the end). Of course it's more fun to win with homegrown players, but it's also more fun to win a title than to...not win a title. I'd get over any issues pretty quickly.

It would be freaking funny to have Durant join the team that just beat him, again.

That alone might mean it could never happen.

He - understandably - made such a big deal about building his own thing outside of the Warriors that it would be a bit tough to believe he would force his way to a team with multiple established stars where he would yet again be a relative outsider who would never be as beloved as the homegrown stars.

Hes 100% anchored himself to Kyrie. He’s leaked to the media that he would want to be traded if Kyrie is traded, without having any actual idea what the Nets would be getting back.

I mean the only reason that there’s even discussion about Brooklyn bringing back Kyrie is because KD’s anchored to him

I have very little interest in trading Brown. But if it brings back KD, I'll pack his bags for him.

I have no idea whether this is true or not, but Nick Friedell, who covered the Nets for ESPN this season, says that the KD / KI relationship "isn't always as close as it appears": https://www.netsdaily.com/2022/6/21/23177707/friedell-friendship-between-kevin-durant-and-kyrie-irving-isnt-always-as-close-as-it-appears. However, the article makes it seem that Friedell's information is coming from the Nets organization.

Another article quotes Woj to say that KD hasn't been recruiting free agents to BRK, which is apparently unusual for him: https://nba.nbcsports.com/2022/06/22/report-durant-not-recruiting-free-agents-to-brooklyn-this-offseason-is-that-irving-related/

Kyrie on the Sixers would be ... something. I want to say hilarious, but I can't because they have a chance to be really good if everyone acts on their best behavior. But poor James Harden.

Harden has enough leverage that if Kyrie was going there, Harden would be going elsewhere.
I doubt it though, Morey loves Harden too much, and just dealt with a guy who you couldn't count on to show up.

This has reached such a level of absurdity that I read the tweet twice to make sure the Celtics were not on his list. Irving has already forced his way out so that he wouldn't have to play with LeBron James. Subsequently James Harden basically quit on the Irving/Durant Nets when he found out how crazy Irving is. Now they're both on his very short list. What the fuck is going on?

Can he be traded back to Brooklyn?

I know this can't happen but are there 3 players who deserve one another more than Kyrie, Harden, and Simmons?

Morey refusing to trade for Kyrie because he wants to re-sign Harden to a max deal will be a career-ender.
