95% should be a good test case, in terms of breakthroughs. We shall see.
Except NBA players are dispersed and are not an isolated population. Players in a CoVid hot zone could be at risk for a breakthrough, and that breakthrough could still spread to another player or two in the locker room. The 95% threshold should mean such incidents are much less likely, but the probabilities are still not zero due to these complications.

We need like 1 or 2 more local vaccination mandates in nba stadiums to get that number to 99%.

My dream is the last two idiots not vaccinated are kyrie and mjp. And those two idiots can start their own 1 man, 1 team league and play each other for 9 months.

I'd prefer if the last 2 idiots got vaccinated too. A 100% vaccination rate from NBA players would have an impact outside of the NBA.

In this country? I doubt it. Lebron, Kawhi, all the stars shouting from the rooftop since January to get vaccinated wouldve helped.

That's great news

30 teams x 15-man rosters
350 NBA players
350 x 95%
~18 players not vaccinated down from 70 players (80%) not vaccinated at the beginning of the week
Well it's down from 90%. The NBAPA counts guys who have 1 shot and are waiting on the 2nd. 80% was fully vaccinated, 90% was partial. It's now 95% at least partial

Does that mean that in a 30 team league the Celtics actually have 2 of the 18 unvaccinated? Or is there a chance Schroeder and/or Richardson have come around?

Kyrie has basically turned into his Game of Zones character.

Hopefully. One of Brad's themes this summer was "a team Boston could like". The majority of Boston has had enough of the unvaccinated excuses.

Would guess this time of year they are counting camp invites as well, so it's closer to 20 per team in many cases. Also, those extra guys are pretty likely to get vaccinated since they are fighting for a job, so it likely helps the numbers a bit.

Sure it would have. People take their cues from the media they consume, the friends they hang with, and the celebrities they follow on social media. I mean, it wouldn't have convinced everyone, but I have no doubt that it would have convinced at least some people.

I'm not sure about the names you mentioned. I think there are other players in the league that hold more clout with the younger guys when they speak.

LBJ is so commercial, I'm not sure itll resonate as much as some of the other guys.

I’m not sure “commercial” has the same negative connotation for today’s young people that it did for us, and it probably never had the same negative connotation for young people of color as it did for white kids in our day.

The data here is stale (19 months old), but among active players, LeBron and KD dominated the bestseller list for signature sneakers at that time. (The “active players” caveat is important; Jordan and Kobe still dominate overall.) Kyrie and Giannis have shoes that are worn by a lot of other NBA players, much more so than LeBron, but that hasn’t translated to retail sales. (Giannis might fare better with a more recent data set.)

https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/10-best-selling-basketball-shoes-214249126.html

People who buy $200 sneakers aren’t representative of the NBA fan base overall, but I think it’s a decent proxy for the small subset of fans whose decision to get vaccinated or not might be influenced by what their favorite players do. I don’t know how influential any of these guys are, but I don’t think any of them are more influential than LeBron, despite his age.

Draymond with just a moronic analogy and then lebron with the retweet of his idiocy. I'm going to openly root for season ending injuries this year.

Not worth posting, but the analogy was that Wiggins missing games for not taking vaccines is comparable to a player missing games to be with his pregnant wife when she gives birth. All of these assholes can fuck right off to hell.

The conflict between "gotta stick up for your guys" and "what's best for the team" has been exploited here. Other than Lopez and maybe Steph all these guys are falling in "protect/stick up for your teammates" land. Which works great when everyone is on "What's best for the team" when your teammate is a selfish asshole, you just end up with 14 guys protecting 1 guy who is actively harming the team and the other 14 guys.

30 teams times 15 players equals 450 players, not 350.
Isn't the number right now greater than 450, since most (every?) team has extra training camp bodies. The Celtics have 20 players on the training camp roster. I would figure there's between 540 & 600 active players at the moment.

Draymonds a jackass. He has benefitted a ton from the NBA media turning incredibly pro player.

All of his insane moronic rants (my favorite being his tirade about Andre Drummond being asked to leave the Pistons as they were trying to trade him and how awful that was and how players are treated so unfairly…of course it turns out that Drummond knew and agreed to stay away from the team since he didn’t want to be there) are treated like some sort of deep thought exercises when it’s an asshole complaining just to complain without any attempt at solving anything

Sources with @WindhorstESPN: The Brooklyn Nets remain unclear on All-Star guard Kyrie Irving’s ultimate intentions to get vaccinated and have made no decision on whether the organization will accommodate him as a part-time player this season. Story soon on ESPN.
There had been previous optimism Irving would get vaccinated and fulfill local mandates, but that hope is waning and Irving’s continued resistance to vaccination has Nets preparing for possibility they’ll be without him for home practices and games for foreseeable future.

So… 8 days after the Kyrie vaccination story started, ESPN is ready to jump to dire conclusions. Kyrie has been out the lineup for longer periods just to recharge his chakras.

Eh, they should trade him to OKC. He can play every day.
Read an article suggesting that the perfect match would be to Houston for Wall..
The assumption was that Kyrie would retire if he was traded (his agent has apparently threatened this) which would be perfect for Houston as that would give the very return they'd love to get for Wall: contract nullification.
I can't think of a more schadenfreude-inducing end to Kyrie's career, but it's probably too good to be true. After all, if the Nets wanted a PG that won't even play half the season's games they already have one in Kyrie...lol

Who was the guy who only played home games a few years ago due to a fear of flying? He can play home games for the Nets and Kyrie can play road games and they can share a roster spot.
Royce White was the player who was afraid of flying.

Kyrie retiring would be brutal because we would be treated to endless speculation about him coming back to play for somebody.

The story has gotten so big that I think it becomes more difficult for Kyrie to just get the shot now. He's built this entire identity of himself standing by his principles and the more publicity his anti-vax stance becomes, the less likely I think he is to just give in and get vaccinated.

Royce once made the incredulous comment, “There’s only six legitimate point forwards in the ENTIRE WORLD. LeBron James, Ben Simmons, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant, Luka Doncic, and Me.” I understand you need to believe you are among the best to compete in this league but this is funny nonetheless.

There is a world where Simmons and Kyrie sit out the entire season. As crazy as this sounds, both are young enough, have plenty of financial security as well as future earnings to stand their ground and do so. It isn’t as crazy as some may think it is.

I don't doubt Ben has played his last game for the 76ers and expect Philly to take their time fielding offers. BUT if BS isn't dealt by the trade deadline that would be a huge miscalculation by Morey.

The 76ers don't want to go into the 2nd half of the reg season/Playoffs without the Simmons trade assets, while burning a prime Embiid playoff year.

Agree on Kyrie, he doesn't care about playing all that much and has the dosh to not.

I think he's waiting to see how Wiggins's martyrdom act played. As a bigger name, Kyrie, now having gotten as much mileage/attention as possible out of not getting the shot, can then get some more as the walking embodiment of "look what the government has forced me to do in order to earn a living." (yes, I know). I wonder if *that* will be on the list of approved NBA "social initiatives" warmup clothes.

The thing about Kyrie is that for the past couple of years he has given off the impression he is thoroughly disinterested in playing basketball. I wouldn't be surprised if he waits well into the season before showing up.

Durant needs to give the green light to trade Kyrie. I don't see that happening.
It seems to me that Durant would likely change his tune if Kyrie has to sit 1/2 of the games, presumably including during the playoffs. If the Nets want the Simmons/Kyrie trade (I'm assuming Morey would do it, since it's really a great fit for all concerned including the 76ers), then that's incentive for them to take a hard line with Kyrie. Which, in turn, might encourage Kyrie to embrace rather than resist a trade.

Unlikely as way too many moving parts...but it does make sense for all concerned.

around the way
Durant, Harden, Joe Harris & Patty Mills could easily hide Simmon's cowardice.

That team would be a juggernaut.
I'm on the "Durant might allow it if Kyrie can't play home games" train, but that Brooklyn team would be even more of a menace with BS. At least you're not scared of their defense as currently constructed. Hopefully KD holds firm and neither Kyrie nor Ben play basketball.

And here, just a week ago you were making fun of me for saying Simmons was afraid to shoot layups.

I agree BTW.
The layup cowardice is a SSS, but I've always thought he was a coward about his lack of 3Pt FA. I hope I've been consistent with that.

Ben "non-3pt shooter" is still a very good player.
Ben "below avg 3pt shooter" is All-NBA player (3PA would hopefully lead to gradual improvement over the next decade)

Kyrie's basketball talent is undeniable, but I gotta believe a lot of teams would be understandably wary of adding him to their locker rooms. He's a different dude, to say the least, and it's easy to envision things going off the rails when he's involved. If I were an NBA owner, I wouldn't want to commit to Kyrie at that price.

I have a hard time picturing any team trading for Kyrie Irving and dealing with the huge distraction that will come with him if he's not vaccinated.
