After reading his quotes from the press conference, not enough bad things can happen to this fuckhead. He felt disrespected by the Nets? After the shit he pulled? He didn’t learn a fucking thing.

Between that press conference and deleting his apology tweet, hold on fellas, I'm beginning to think Kyrie is a bit of a jerk. Too much of a hot take? :)
I agree and I will also add that in todays climate it is naive to think that the Mavs have 5-years to appease Doncic. There is a very real chance that something needs to be done this year or next before he asks to be moved.

I’ll say this about Doncic. Everyone loves his talent, however……he’s already clashed with an executive and a GM, neither of whom are any longer with the organization, and the two “second wheels” he’s had in Dallas (Porzingis and Brunson) have played better since leaving…..and in the formers case, played better both before and after his time with Doncic).

I’m not yet being critical of Doncic but there are some red flags creeping up that we should watch moving forward.
The related issue I'm not hearing much about is how they'll mesh on the court. Everyone points to how Kyrie played well w/ LBJ and with KD a bit hard to tell due to time lost/injuries, but seems to have been good together when they were both on the court. That said, LBJ and KD aren't as ball dominant as Luka is. And, as well, KD and LBJ both play very good defense whereas Luka doesn't. I think one has to at least wonder if this will be as great a basketball fit as the Mavs hope.

In the playoffs I wonder if Luka can kick it up defensively in a way we haven't seen yet due to
a) Him not giving a shit about the regular season (see his total lack of offseason conditioning)
b) Having to shoulder such a huge offensive load.

He's decently large and strong, he should be able to be at least decent on that end.

Luka and Brunson worked together just fine so Luka and Kyrie should also, I’d guess.

Did they though? Bronson’s star really shined when Doncic was out of the lineup and we’ve seen what he can do in NY where he’s been handed the keys. Now much of this was due to Brunson deferring which isn’t going to occur with Kyrie. They are going to need this naturally chemistry which if it’s there we willl see right away and/or learn to allow the other to go off when that player is in rhythm while finding other ways to help the team.

It’s probably going to be rough but if they do mesh you’ll have two of the greatest iso scoring guards to ever play the game on the floor together hunting for matchups. This is either going to be very scary for the opponent or very scary to Kidd and the Mavs front office. Fire up the popcorn!

By comparison, the NBA Twitterverse would eat Pierce and Garnett for lunch if they were walking around telling everyone how to win with one ring in the league, and neither of those guys played with Lebron.
Pierce and the 08 team do this all the time! They are constantly getting flamed on the internet for it.

I was just basing it on last year's postseason, seemed like both of them went nuts and it got them to the Western finals.

They will do well for a while. Maybe a long winning streak in Feb and March. The talking heads will be consulting their physicians every 4 hours, between stops on the Kyrie Redemption Tour.
Then, those who have ignored history will be condemned to watch it repeated.

Yeah, clearly I just mean playing together on the court, if Luka and Brunson can thrive together as they did last postseason, then Luka and Kyrie can also.

He doesn't change. He just sits still, and the world revolves around him.

I mean, I think it's as simple as it is obvious: He resented being brought to heel over the anti-semitic movie stuff, he was insincere in every apology and felt forced into it, probably made up some victim-complex stuff because Tsai didn't back him up, and as a result decided this wasn't the franchise for him, because they took sides with the league in knocking him down a peg. And nobody knocks Kyrie down a peg. It's not his fault if they can't see the genius behind a painfully-bad racist movie. Now that he's been traded, he can remove any evidence that he once was humbled or forced to say something he didn't believe. That post was a reminder of his humiliation.

Yeah, Kyrie's whole thing is that he needs to get attention, but it has to be positive, he has to be told that he's smart and talented and right. He can never admit a mistake, a flaw or a failing. It's what makes him so easily roped into these conspiracy things, because the whole subculture is built on the idea that you're smarter than those "sheep" and you should never apologize.

Agreed. Conspiracy theories are also great for people that lack accountability because they convince people there are dark forces in play that are responsible for your failures and that it has nothing to do with your own inadequacies.

He basically said that verbatum

"I just know I want to be places where I'm celebrated and not just tolerated or just kind of dealt with in a way that doesn't make me feel respected," Irving said after Tuesday's practice at USC's Galen Hall. "There were times throughout this process when I was in Brooklyn where I felt very disrespected and my talent -- I work extremely hard at what I do. No one ever talks about my work ethic, though. Everyone talks about what I'm doing off the floor, so I just wanted to change that narrative, write my own story and just continue preparing in the gym, and now that I'm in Dallas, just focus on what I control."

Everyone has double standards. They will criticize Kyrie for tweeting about the movie……yet they will gladly continue paying Amazon each month despite them still promoting the movie on their platform to this day. I’m sure many on this board are included.

I’m not saying you’re a bad person for your Amazon subscription only pointing out the double standard.

Looks like last year in the games that Luka did not play, Brunson put up 21/7/4. This year with the Knicks he is at 23/6/3.5

Wait a second. That's not a double-standard at all and it's a false equivilancy. You can watch that movie but you don't have to go around telling everyone how awesome it is and how it "really makes you think"--especially if you're a person with a huge megaphone to hype up a POS movie. There are a lot of docs on a number of streaming services that I don't agree with, but I'm not going to tell you to shut those services down.

There's a pretty stark distinction between regular ass people ambivalently subscribing to Amazon Prime and a professional athlete with an enormous platform and significant influence in his community perpetuating antisemitic tropes. You're not doing much to disprove @Myt1 wrong about your need to weirdly defend this guy despite him being one of the biggest pieces of shit in the NBA.

Let me add to my previous response. The double standard is "Kyrie should not tweet virulently anti semitic shit" but at the same time "you shouldn't patronize any corporation that has questionable morality" ? This is not a double standard, they are completely different things.

I want to give you the benefit of the doubt but as I have said before, the next time you admit being wrong in this forum will be the first (that I have seen).

I’m not saying I’m right or I’m wrong. I’m only saying that’s how I feel. People are saying Kyrie is wrong for promoting the movie, which im certainly not disagreeing with, bc he has a platform but it’s ok for Amazon to promote and profit from the movie when they also have a platform. I’m not defending Kyrie at all for this action as it was stupid to tweet that out.

I couldn't imagine the Mavs doing this without at least floating it by Luka's people first.

Of course, that won't matter if it ends up tanking the franchise, but one can always move on from Kyrie. His 3 former teams are all in the top 5 in the East.
Well, that depends doesn't it? Kyrie's history suggests things tend to go well for a while. If that suckers them into extending him, then he goes full Kyrie, it might be harder to move on with him two years older and another meltdown on his resumé.

There is no double standard evident in: 1) subscribing to a platform even though it offers what I think is a bigoted documentary; and 2) criticizing someone for describing that particular documentary in glowing terms. If the platform was run by Atomwaffen or Stormfront, there might be a basis to have a conversation as to why I pay them $8 a month.

Paying Amazon for a subscription service that includes thousands of titles is not in the same stratosphere as an individual (even putting aside who Kyrie is and how many followers he has) actively promoting a anti-semitic film that happens to be in their library.

I mean, how far does this double standard go? In order to not be lumped in with Kyrie, in addition to Amazon, do we also now have to dump Whole Foods, Zappos, MGM, Twitch, Pillpack and dozens of other companies that Amazon owns?

If someone wants to blast Elon Musk, while driving a new Tesla, I'm much more inclined to see that as a double standard, but Amazon didn't create the film, sure, they could remove it, but Kyrie promoting it is way, way further down that hole. Shit, you can find "Hebrews to Negroes" on the internet, does that mean everyone that doesn't cut off the internet from their lives is also engaged in a double standard?

Even this is a stretch, IMO. You can thoroughly appreciate the company Tesla, and love their cars, while finding the owner to be a jackhole. Not sure that just because you own the product means you can't critique the owner

Is the bolded an intentional troll? If so, it's quite impressive; either way, it gave me a good laugh.

Three minor thoughts I haven't seen fully articulated that I thought I'd share:
  • Kyrie wanting credit for having a good work ethic in the fucking NBA is pretty fucking juvenile; like the other guys in the league haven't put any work in and are just coasting on talent.
  • Kyrie attacking the very basis of the identity of Jewish people in Brooklyn of all places and then feeling disrespected by Brooklyn is rich; he's lucky he didn't end up with his head on a stick.
  • And this is the one that's really got me thinking: When Kyrie talks about the young team needing to learn to win and implying that that is something he could teach them (have taught them), do we think he ever imagined a future where he played Number Two to Tatum's Number One?

I thought he just said "Brooklyn," so it could be just the team, but I'm not sure it matters given what the team had to put up with and deal with given his disrespect to a significant population of their home market.

It reminds me a bit of a time when Michael Jordan was complaining about some of the sports media—maybe SI specifically—and someone, I forget who, wrote an opinion piece that was like, "Seriously? The people who have air brushed every single last blemish from every picture of you ever, literal and metaphorical?"

When healthy, the team was winning and Kyrie was voted an all star starter. I think you are conflating what is true and what you want to be true. I’m not a fan and was thrilled when the Celtics were freed from this guy. But people like him, that’s reality.

Hmm. Not sure what I may have accidentally implied because I don’t deny any of that; what you describe is an empirical fact

What I mean is, Kyrie isn’t himself a particularly respectful guy. That obviously doesn’t make him a poor player—though history suggests it might be a consideration for team wanting to bet on him, even if only with respect to sticking around—and certainly he has charisma that draws people to him and such, but respect is a heckuva currency for him to invoke.

And he neglects to mention that his work ethic has gotten some attention. I mean, it was big news when he went AWOL on the Nets and missed 7 games in 2021’; a stretch that finally ended after videos of him partying maskless (violating COVID protocols)in a club proliferated on social media. I’m sure his employers just loved being put in the embarrassing position of having to defend that after they had already had to admit that they had no idea where Kyrie was or why he disappeared. This guy is such an entitled prick. If any of us had his “work ethic” we’d be unemployable..

It's fucking hilarious. Hey, the guy played 40 games for Brooklyn and left (demanded out of) his team in 4th place. What more do you want from him? That's a pretty good year by his recent standards.

He signed a 4 year deal, and ended up playing a total of 143 games (plus just 13 playoff games). He's a joke.

The Nets paid him around $860k a game, around $22k a minute, and got exactly one playoff series win, against a hobbled Celtics team.
