Honestly, the best option here for the Nets is probably going to be for the Nets to call his bluff. He needs to play for a contract, and I highly doubt the Nets will be getting anything back worth it.

About the only teams I see willing to do this is probably Lakers with Westbrook and two first round picks, or the Suns (Paul or Ayton?)

The Bulls have been rumored to be looking to move LaVine and you’ve got the bizarre Hawks situation with Trae too. There seem to be many options for the Nets if anyone wants Kyrie.

I dunno I think he would sit out.

That's tough for the Nets!
Who will be able to guard Giannis in the Playoffs when KI is gone? And who could replace Kyrie in his role as a part time head coach for the Nets?

Good points.

And Dallas has been trying to find a running mate for Doncic, too... (although I doubt Kyrie would be content as a second banana.)

I wonder if KD's injury is expected to last longer than anticipated. I really wouldnt be surprised if KD gave him the heads up to get out while he can.

Wiscansin, by way of Attleboro
Everyone seemingly loves him around the league and still view him as a bulldog type talent, but he's a eunuch shit zu. Neutered beyond all hope of alpha status. Where the eject button is more attractive than trying to land the plane with sticktoitiveness. Wax poetic with your oblique strategies and anti-Semite bullshit, you third-eye opened cyclops. You blinded your two actual eyes in the pursuit of sage burnings and astral projections. You can't manifest a new legacy in this reality. It has to be lived and earned. He's such an insufferable dolt.

Seems hard to imagine there are many rosters that have the contracts that match up, other than the Lakers. The question is, what is an appropriate return given the circumstances, and what do they have to offer? Haven't they given away a millennia of picks already?

Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, both LA teams and perhaps a few others might have interest. I will be shocked if Irving's market isn't robust and everyone knows what they are getting with him. His ability to get buckets essentially overrides all other factors.

I doubt this has anything to do with it. Both sides had contract extension talks and once they broke down Kyrie knew he wouldn’t be returning. Frankly, I don’t really blame him as he can try and get somewhere that really wants him. Of course, he made this bed himself I’m only speaking of todays decision actually making some sense for him to do.

It's almost certainly just a temper tantrum because the Nets made it clear they won't give him a 3 or 4 year max.

Sounds about right. And frankly, I can't blame the Nets, they probably wanted to write in a lot of incentives to prevent Kyrie from abruptly deciding he could just take games off without being penalized for it. They need some safeguards to ensure he doesn't just up and go when he feels like it

But man, I just can't picture Kyrie -not- abruptly deciding his third eye needs a visit to Russia to tell Putin that he's doing it all wrong and that he should share sage with the Ukranians.

But wouldn't that mean Durant is pretty much immediately out the door? At first glance feels like the nets need to appease him with the return right?
But who is going to give them anything of actual value?

You don't want him to submarine Miami too?
On the one hand a Kyrie-Jimmy drama could be highly entertaining, but on the other hand he would add much needed scoring to a team I am more than sick of at this point. If Kyrie has any discipline still hiding in his body then Spo is as good a bet as anyone to bring it out.

And on the flip side Lowry is the obvious matching salary. I have no interest in seeing him add toughness and playoff experience to a team sorely lacking both.

why is this savage, is she saying Boston should pick him up? I don't get it.
She's pointing out that he's a flake, and that she told the BRK people who said it was all the Celtics' and their fans' fault he left and he'd never do that to KD and BKN that he'd leave them too.

I think we all underestimate how important it is for a team's best players not to be fucked in the head, and just .... play. For all the criticisms leveled at JT, JB or Marcus or Al or Grant.....they are all about what they do on the floor. Iso, handle, shoot too much, etc etc. So many teams who "might be really good if they can put it all together" have key players who can't.

I think the picture is from the event when KI spoke about staying with Boston for the rest of his career and his number being up in the rafters... which was full of bullshit as we all know too well. KI can't be trusted to be a part of anything stable but will force a departure when he doesn't get his way and his way only.

I can't imagine the Nets getting back anything to salvage their season and there is no reason to take on any long term bad contracts. Plus Kyrie is a FA in a few months so none of the bad teams make any sense.

Westbrook + whatever picks from the Lakers still makes the most sense to me if the Lakers want to try to salvage this Lebron/AD tandem. Maybe the Mavs make some sense if Kyrie and Doncic can play nice?

Lowry, Strus, and Martin for Kyrie works in the trade machine. That seems like pretty weak value for Brooklyn, though. Have to imagine they can do better.

News of Kyrie's discontent is really making its way around the globe...
It is in fact the winter of his discontent.

But then again, so was the summer.

Anywhere but Miami please
1) Miami's whole gameplan is conditioned around defense, turnovers and fast breaks. That was how they almost beat us. ISOs and lollygagging on defense is not what Pat Riley has in mind.
2) Irving making $37M can only be plausibly be matched in a trade for Lowry ($28 this year, $30 next). They're not trading Jimmy or Bam, Robinson at $17 provides net asset value, and everyone else on that team makes peanuts. If Sean Marks trades one of their two flagship stars who puts butts in seats in exchange for Kyle Lowry, he's going to get a raft of shit, when the alternative is just to wait Irving out and make him play the season out and then leave.

Westbrook at $47M is an even worse contract situation for the Lakers; I think LA would have to send draft picks they don't have, or by stapling young high-upside and cheap kids on the LAL roster to Westbrook on his way out the door. Thomas Bryant or Gabriel, maybe; both are minimum salaries. But Irving is worth more on the court than Westbrook (if maybe not off it...) and given that Westbrook costs $10M more, Brooklyn would need to get a lot more value coming back. Hard to see where that comes from. LA has encumbered their 2023, 2024 and 2025 1st-rounders (2023: NO swap rights, 2024: to NO, but they have right to defer to 2025), so unless they want to trade 2027 and/or 2029, seems like slim pickings.

I predict Irving doesn't go anywhere, he sulks for a bit and then just tries to play for his next contract.

I get the Lakers doing it, but why in the hell would the Nets want Westbrook? Literally anyone in the league with an outside shot (and good enough to be on the court at the end of games) would be a better fit for them. If you've got Claxton/Simmons/Westbrook on the floor at the same time, your other two guys could be Durant and [Steph] Curry and it wouldn't matter, there's no offensive spacing.

For some reason I thought Lowry was making $35M so yeah I agree that's not really a viable path. Kyrie's value is so low that I doubt he gets moved, but a 1 for 1 flip for Lowry would have been the closest deal worth considering from both sides IMO. Most likely he stays where he is.
