Kirk and Callahan: Done

woof, that is disgusting.
It really it is.

The options are...

I have listened to K and C and In my opinion...

Or

I have not listened to K and C so I can’t have a real opinion on them.
Me: I’m hungry.

KI: Here, try some rat kebabs I just made.

Me: Um, no thanks. That sounds gross.

KI: That’s *so* close minded of you. How come you won’t just try them?

Me: Well, rats eat garbage, so they’ll probably taste gross.

KI: You’re argument is invalid. You can’t *really* have an opinion until you try it. It’s just science.

Me: Whatever. I’m leaving to get real food.

What a terrible human.

He is a terrible human being but I thought he came off alright in that interview and didn’t say anything really outlandish. If someone was writing into the Globe to get me fired, I wouldn’t be very happy about it.

I had WEEI for a few min this morning and they’re still talking about Kirk constantly.

Well, I'm just glad he's taking care of his mental illness.

I'm sure when he needs a little bump in the ratings, he'll talk about how he almost jumped in front of a train again; everyone will feel sorry for him and then he can keep doing what he's doing.

It's nice when the good guys succeed!

For his family's sake, I hope he gets the help he needs (and that his insurance covers it!). But, I suspect that if someone he didn't like (or he thought his audience didn't like) claimed that mental illness caused them to think about jumping in front of a train, Kirk would check the train schedule and figure out a way to call the person a liar.

It's all just so transparent. Leung is an "activist" because she gave opinions in a column and called WEEI sponsors to get a comment. You know, her job. Murchison is "harassing" people by sending them a series of polite emails linking to content that their businesses are sponsoring. What a menace!!

I'm glad O'Connell called him out on his bullshit claim that Leung has called him a racist. She did no such thing and he's taking lines from her column out of context (something he cries like a baby about people doing to him) to try defend it.

Of course he is a racist, and he's not nearly as smart or entertaining as he thinks he is. He's a local radio wonder who's been banished to Siberia and will be a footnote within a year or two.

How exactly is Kirk a racist? Can you cite examples?
Remember that time when they double and tripled down on doubting Adam Jones? Not out and out racism, but they definitely seem to be interested in asking a lot of 'questions' in those type of situations.

I don't believe Kirk is a racist. I believe he's a horrible person who hates everyone not him. Whatever take is the hottest is his new thing. I don't think he's sexist, racist, hates gays etc. it's just whatever is the red meat in front of him.

There hasn't been a single person to come forward from the seats to back up what AJ said he heard shouted at him.
What is wrong with questioning AJ's take? Maybe AJ did hear someone, but there hasn't been any other evidence to support it.

For what it's worth KM dug his own grave with his obsession of shit talking/ gossiping every other show/ host/ management. It's teen gossip shit, but yet he'd cry "it's what the listeners want to hear!". But the blind labeling of racism or homophobia is lazy and at the same time scary.

Evidence like AJ’s statement? Why is other evidence necessary?

Maybe KM did think about stepping in front of a train, but there's been no other evidence to support it. Given all the other publicity stunts he's undertaken, I suppose there's nothing wrong with questioning the veracity of his claim.

So you think that Adam Jones completely made this up?

Follow up question: Why?

I'll hang up and listen.

I haven't a clue.
Just find it hard to believe that someone was shouting N bombs at him in a crowd of hundreds and nobody witnessed it.
If nothing else you'd think at least one person would've called into either of the sports stations to say they were sitting in section "x" and saw the guy, but that never happened.

There's no reason AJ would have lied, he had nothing to gain from that. Come on.

He'd need to be a sociopath. Do you have evidence he is a sociopath?

Adam Jones witnessed it.
Not only that, but if one did witness it, what is the incentive to come forward? The only people questioning the veracity of Jones' story were K&C and their acolytes. What if those who did witness the incident and did hear the slurs were unaware that a stupid morning radio show was seeking them out? Or more likely, imagine they were aware but decided (wisely) not to subject themselves to K&C's brand of cross examination?

Adam Jones is just the most notable example. The idea that black people fabricate racist incidents was a running theme on their show. I'm sure that's just cause they're really "skeptical" guys who demand evidence (unless someone is saying something they want to believe, in which case no evidence necessary).

I think you overestimate their popularity/and or relevance, as compared to the maybe 50 (100?) people at a game that might hear it.
I don't listen to them. And whatever their ratings, tens (hundreds?) of thousands of people in the Boston area don't listen to them. So how would I, or any of those non-listeners who might be witnesses, even know that a couple of dimwitted radio gasbags need confirmation that there really was a train in the area where one of them said there was that it happened. Not only would someone near the perpetrator in "section x" have to *know* that the gasbags were desperately seeking witnesses, the person would have to care enough about the juvenile rantings of a couple of radio idiots to call them on it.

I wouldn't call a "sports" radio "talk" show under any circumstances. I wouldn't even call if I was sitting in front of the person who yelled and I knew that said gasbags were in need of witnesses. Just like I haven't called Alex Jones to correct him about Sandy Hook based on a friend's account of a teacher's funeral. "Yeah, Gerry, it was awful. I was right in front of the guy." "Yeah, so we're supposed to believe that *you* were the only one who heard it other than Adam Jones? How many votes did you cast for Pocahontas"?

EDIT: I missed Red(s)Hawks's more succinct post.

Yep. But definitely not racist. Nope. Just skeptical and pushing the same type of questions racists would ask.

Let's be honest, even if someone did come forward and call them KKKallahan would probably say they were just a lying SJW who wanted to make Boston look bad. It would be a no-win situation.

Have you read the news in the last three years? You find it hard to believe that someone was yelling something racial insensitive in public?

Someone also threw a bag of peanuts at him too and that person got bounced from the park. I don't think that we have to reignite this whole conversation but Carl Crawford and David Price have also heard racially intolerant bullshit from Sox fans too. You can read that here. I would guess that this happens all the time and I've heard some pretty shitty things myself when I've sat in the bleachers.

Just because KKKallahan and Minihane (and I guess you) don't believe it, doesn't mean its not true.

I'm sure someone can look up the old thread from last year, but I remember at least two SOSH posters who were at that game who corroborated on here that they indeed heard the N bombs.

Looks like the new EEI morning show plummeted in the ratings this past month since Kirk left.

Great, this is going to lead to Kirk coming back and being even more of an asshole isn’t it?

Shocking that WEEI rolling out Callahan, Dale & Ordway in 2018 isn’t working. I was glad to see Keefe did pretty well. I still can’t believe that many people listen to F&M which I can’t take at all.

WEEI really needs to burn it down and start over. You can’t just keep rolling those three out, mix in some Butch Sterns, Dickerson, Reimer and others and expect any success. Ted Johnson on 98.5 this week has been way better than anything WEEI is rolling out.

They are actually rolling out Butch Sterns and Dickerson again!? Yikes. I've occasionally flipped it on and heard Reimer. He is just awful. Sounds like the OMF switch to afternoons was a total disaster as well.

"Kirk Minihane shook up the Boston radio scene. Can he make waves in his new venture?"
By Steve Buckley
And what separates Minihane from all the rest? ...

Let’s start with this: When he wants to play reporter he can be really good. ...

And then there is Minihane’s ability to interview people in such as way that, like an old-time mystery from the Golden Days of Radio, makes it impossible for you stop listening.

Simply put, Kirk Minihane is the best interviewer in the history of Boston electronic media. And it’s not even close. In an era when many radio and TV hosts are satisfied to go on the fifty-cent tour with their guests and act as though the edgy, uncomfortable follow-up question hasn’t been invented yet, Minihane forges ahead if something doesn’t sit well with him.
I have never heard Minihane talk to anyone, but these quotes from the article

Alex Reimer: "If you’re in an argument with him he will jump on one misstep or one contradiction and hammer it and totally control the conversation.”
Minihane: "And, boy, if I can get them to say this, OK, now they think we’re a little more conversational, a little more comfortable. Oh, I’m kind of friends with this guy. And then, bam, you hit ‘em with it ..."

have nothing to do with having an informative conversation or even a meaningful debate. It's simply playing childish "gotcha" games - where the only goal is to trap the other person and declare yourself some sort of "winner". It certainly does not make Minihane the "best interviewer in the history of Boston electronic media". Maybe "interviewer" means "creator of meaningless noise pollution".

callahan is such an anchor (in the bad sense) to the morning show. i wonder if he'll ever get singled out for being dead weight. he's been lazy for years now, but it always seems to be the hosts around him that pay the price.

Kirk’s interviews are so bad. Also does Buckley not understand most guests are paid interviews?

I agree that Callahan is a problem, but it's not as though his co-hosts have been innocent victims of his shitty-ness. John Dennis and Kirk Minihane are/were their own brands of shitty radio deserving of being flushed. The only remarkable thing is that Callahan has managed to survive where they haven't.

That’s not accurate though? John Dennis was with him for 15 + years or so then retired/pushed out. It didn’t last long with Kirk but they were successful in the ratings at least. This won’t work with Mut but I think it has more to do with Mut

So neither Mut nor Callahan are pulling ratings now, so why isn't an option to just have a completely new morning show? It always seems like it's "the other guy" when GC's value is ever questioned.

Entercom leaving Kirk to twist in the wind. Get the feeling his Radio.com show never gets off the ground. Almost feel bad for Sporty.
Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Fred Toucher said that most of the industry hated him and he wouldn't get another job, maybe he's right?

I figure he'll catch on somewhere. If not maybe he'll end up with Schilling somewhere.

It's amazing how far he's fallen.

edit: apparently during yesterday's K&C headlines segment, both Curtis and Ken said they wouldn't be involved as producers for the new show.
