I'm with you. Please don't let this become a thing.

I'm looking forward to listening to it but I can't believe @Chad Finn actually likes Tanguay. I'm a huge fan of Finn and read his column all the time. His opinion of Tanguay shakes my foundation. It's like finding out your new girlfriend likes Nickelback. Or Nazis. I may have to re-evaluate every thing in my life at this point.
Or Smashmouth.

He is, but I think the difference with him is that it's done with a wink. He's actually aware enough to know that he's vapid and soul-crushing, which gives him an advantage over, I don't know, the Bayless types and all the imitators. Plus he at least attempts to stand up to Gerry sometimes on non-sports matters, which I appreciate. Hey, the bar is set pretty low.
I'll agree he knows what he's doing. That doesn't, in any way, excuse that what he's doing sucks.

I'd prefer vapid and soul-crushing from someone honestly giving it over a charlatan who happens to play vapid and soul-crushing (on the radio) because it pays well.

YMMV.

Nice job with Kirk, Chad. You're definitely in his (their) head. I was a little disappointed on the "do you think Gerry is a racist?" response because he so very clearly is, but I guess I can understand your response. It was fun to hear Kirk be not so tough when he actually has someone who disagrees with him on the other end of the table. Nicely done.
Thanks. Yeah, I'd need another hour on the Gerry question. Jumped me a bit with that, and rather than stammering through it, I cut bait. Deserves a more nuanced answer, and one I need to think about.

No worries, it was a mostly tongue in cheek criticism on my part. You would have spent a long time listening to Kirk rationalize his behavior anyway. Probably not worth it, since we all know better anyway.

So are they really looking at poaching Hardy or Keefe?

I like them both, I can't see either one dealing with Gerry & Kirk or were you referring to other opps at the station?

Also, why does Adam Jones have a job? I'd much rather see someone like Arcand get that role, it seems unanimous that everyone hates Adam Jones.

I still can't figure out if Kirk is a giant act or if he's really just an asshole obsessed with certain things and can't let it go. His obsession with Fred Toucher, the whole podcast where he just kept going back to the well on the "The Globe hates us" to "Mazz is a Globe guy" which as you said is 100% not true and Kirk knows it, to Andrew/Andy Mahoney.

It's like he gets caught up on something and just can't let it go. He'd be much more tolerable if he just toned that crap back a bit and was just more of a general asshole.

Fair enough, but this is about the lamest "defense" of the guy that one can muster. Essentially, it's "yes, I know he sucks, adds absolutely nothing to any broadcast other than mostly pathetic efforts to stand up to Gerry, but hey, he knows he sucks." What a depressingly low bar.

It's weird because Chad criticized Mazz for the same thing, but "likes" Gary for it.

Both are lazy acts.

I'd like an expansion on EEI possibly poaching Keefe or Hardy. When was this brought to light? I'm happy for both as they're both talented enough to contribute to any show. Personally I'm holding out for The Sports Hub to replace Wallach with either of them. Sorry to get off topic.

Yeah, that's fair. I think maybe it's because I hear it more with Mazz -- it's the same thing every day, sky falling no matter what. At least with Tanguay you can tell he doesn't believe it sometimes. And he'll fight Gerry on stuff. Not exactly endorsing either for a Marconi, though. "Like" was too strong of a word. "Tolerates" might be better.

I don't listen to Callahan, so need some help. A friend just told me heard that Callahan just turned AGAINST Trump, because Trump does not pay taxes, and Callahan was horrified by that. Can anyone who actually listened to him this morning confirm this is true, OR confirm he did NOT say anything like this? Thanks.

He was disappointed and said that Trump sucked but he'll still be voting for him because what choice does he have?
I also think Callahan was horrified that Trump said he didn't pay taxes not necessarily that he didn't pay taxes.

Chad - what do you like (professionally) about Tanguay? Seriously. If he's a nice guy, then great. But IMO he is Exhibit A about what's terrible about certain aspects of sports broadcast media: A know-nothing dunce that picks sides on an issue because he thinks it's edgy or contrarian, but is vapid and soul crushing.
Chad answered, but I'll add my $0.02. I know Gary fairly well personally and IMO he is a great guy off the radio. Like solid, A+ mensch type. That counts for something. He absolutely plays his "role" with a solid wink, and whether you like him on radio or not (I am luke-warm personally despite my personal views), his arguments at least are defended and he doesn't shy away from being confronted.

If someone knows someone personally and they find him/her to be a great guy, then of course they are inclined to support him. Nevertheless, objectively, and with no personal knowledge of Gary Tanguay, IMO he is a talentless buffoon, with a seriously wanting intellect and exceedingly predictable and boring on-air persona. Said with great respect for your personal relationshp of course. :)

I don't disagree with anything you said... at all. Was more commenting on trying to answer the question repeatedly asked about why he keeps getting "another chance" or job offer... his off-air personality definitely could play a role.

Just turned it on in time to hear them discussing how big Brady's penis was. And Tanguay and his "sources" from inside the Pats locker room confirming that it was huge. Riveting.

Seriously, does Brady face any sort of consequence if he just refuses to come on with these guys when he returns?

Sounds like Tanguay left the set again mid show. So of course that probably means he's staying. (Sighs).

So this is apparently what happened today to trigger Tanguay's latest "walk out" stunt. What a clown show.

Gary Tanguay walked out. Again. He's done. Couldn't take the heat.

He had a great run on WEEI. Yes, I said he has sucked lately but he has sucked because he hasn't been energetic. Today he was doing well. Then John from Easty set him off. He couldn't take the criticism from John about being a bad parent then that turned into a "Gary is a pedophile" bit.

The guys joked and joked and Gary had enough. He can call Minihane a crazy drug addict and Callahan a racist, but come at him with pedophile jokes and he is done. If you call Callahan a racist he isn't going to just lie down like Trump did in the debate. It is morning radio and you are going to get your balls busted. Ken played some Jerry Sandusky sound and that was it. So with a snap of his headphones Gary was gone, and now that he has walked out twice he is likely gone forever.

Oh, and the guys played sound of Gary walking out of the building. He sounded like he was crying. I couldn't tell if it was Gary or Fred Couples crying about Arnold Palmer dying.

Tanguay also criticized the mid-day show and subsequently got an e-mail from management that rattled him a bit before the walkout.

Yeah, I think the caller that criticized his parenting (which was pretty bunk.....calling him a bad parent because he doesn't coach his kids' teams?) really rattled Gary. Gary argued that he's a good parent because he DOESN'T coach his kids' teams. GT thinks that parents that coach fall into 1 of 2 categories......either you're extra hard on your own kid and treat them unfairly....or you give them preferential treatment. No middle ground.

Then Kirk and Gerry really jumped on him. Calling him an absent parent and an awful father. Then Gary called the caller a pedophile because he wants to coach little boys. Really went off the rails. The caller ended by saying Ordway was much better than Gary and would be a better morning host. Gary followed with, "yeah, that's why they are getting killed in the midday spot"

Typical. 98.5 won all the real demos. WEEI won older people. WEEI pushing #1 in New England!

In other news water is wet.

Curtis following him into the parking garage was kind of late 90's E! era Howard Stern . Not a compliment.
I hope it wasn't a work, but either way he'll be back in a week.

Outside of the obvious #1, who know's what demo they're quoting, if it's NE vs just Boston etc. I'd expect them to get a big boost the first few weeks of the new show. It's something different and a lot of people may give it a shot.

I just heard the last two minutes of today's show, and multiple times a woman -- presumably a guest; I'm not aware of there being a female co-host -- started to speak and was interrupted. The one time she was allowed to speak, she was interrupted. This was a fantastic example of the Trump-like stereotype of men-not-respecting women.

It was Trenni Kusnierek, who I believe is a CSN reporter. She was filling in today.

I only listened for 10 min or so, but she absolutely held Gerry in check and called him out when he deserved it. At one point, Gerry got so riled up while talking about HRC that he was stumbling over his words. It was great.

Sadly, I assume there's no chance she gets the gig, even if she wants it. EEI will go with Mutt or some other safe choice.

I think she was good and held her own, I didn't notice what David did at all. I believe she is going to be a regular fill in at EEI so though I doubt she will be on K&C often I assume she will be on some of the time.

I agree, good to have a thoughtful opposition, not the "liberal" vapid Gary Tanguay playing the role of opposition.

Chad, what happened to her at 98.5? She have enough of Fred's and Rich's childishness?
I'm guessing it's because they didn't offer her a job. The rumor was that she was going to be on the weekends, which didn't really happen. What they said at one point they were going to pair her with Hardy instead of Troup. She filled in on Beetle & Zo then it stopped. She always had good calls w/ T&R even when she was in Rio.

She brings a good game to the airwaves, I hope she's more on 10-6 on WEEI than the morning cesspool. She's a huge step up to the crap WEEI wheels out on the weekends. WEEI's weekends are a disaster filled with retreads of retreads that can't get on during the week (like Tanguay). Arcand excluded.

so WEEI got rid of Dickerson for Trenni? ok, I can see that as an improvement on their bench

OTOH, TSH let Trenni walk by giving fill in time to Dickerson

Found in central mass
Steven A on this morning, trying to make some really convoluted point about Brady/Trump relationship. He lost me but you could hear the disdain dripping from Gerry's voice when he spoke. But maybe that's just confirmation bias on my part.

Tomase in the 3rd chair this morning. K&C were defending Schilling's defense of Trump over the 10 year old comment. Tomase accuses Schill of sexualizing 10 year old girls.

Schill calls and just unloads on Tomase. They had to use the dump button a few times on him. Tomase doesn't back down. Schill digs in even deeper. Schill clarifies his point by saying he's a heterosexual man. Tomase is dumbfounded.

Tomase ends by saying he's going to vote for Schill for the HOF. He says that he used to like him and thought he was interesting and he enjoyed that Curt spoke his mind. Now, "I think you are completely 100% unhinged." Schill's response...."Good, when people like you say that, it means I'm doing some good. People like you are what's wrong with this country"

The whole conversation was fascinating. Julio Lugo's name got brought up several times (Curt calling out Tomase accusing Lugo of having sex with underage girls). Worth a listen.

I know Cabrera was rumored to be with some of his teammates WAGS, but wasn't sure about the underage stuff. I thought Lugo had some DV issues......not sure about the other stuff.

Wasn't it Cabrera that was rumored with underage girls or am I misremembering?
Not misremembering though that rumor was deeply underground, its not like it was ever reported in mainstream media. Never really came out how that one started... was always a ton of hearsay, like "a guy I know works with a guy who is cousins with a friend of the clubhouse manager who says OCab wasn't resigned because he was banging underage chicks, like, more than one of them."
