Controversies before they happen - Tom Brady in a question about long time friend Donald Trump and whether he supports him?

TB- I support all of my friends. Think it's impressive that he's gone in three different career directions.

Media- Tom Brady fails to denounce Trump Muslim plan WHAT A MONSTER!

Idiots. I mean they explicitly note that this is a no win stupid question and yet they plow ahead anyway.

I mean, Brady has brought this upon himself with the Trump hat in his locker. He brought the politics into this and now that's fair game for a question. I am glad that he was asked the question.

He did not fucking bring politics into this because he had a ball cap in his locker. He has consistently given non answer answers, I don't follow politics, etc. He has not officially, and likely will not, endorse any candidate. It's not his job to be a surrogate for anyone's political laundry. The question is fine, the fake outrage that will inevitably stem from his answer is sadly par for the course.

He opened the door for these types of questions by having the cap in his locker and, to a certain extent, appearing at the State of the Union address back when. This is one of the prices people pay for celebrity in America in 2015, getting everything scrutinized. He handles the questions well, but Brady absolutely brought politics into it. He should, and most likely will, expect these questions as long as Trump is part of the conversation.

And for the record, I am a liberal Boston sports fan. Like I did with Tim Thomas in 2011/2012 and Curt Schilling in 2004 when he endorsed GWB about 10 minutes after the World Series, I am happy to separate sports heroes for their sporting heroics from their misguided political views.

I don't think anyone really knows what his political views are. Not sure what there is to separate. And having an item in your locker that camera picks up is not the same as publicly wearing it, and giving an endorsement. It seems more like something the Trump camp sent him, and he tossed it in his locker. I fully agree that as a celebrity, he is fair game to be asked these kinds of questions. Part of the deal, he can take it. But the suggestion that he has somehow tacitly endorsed Trumps candidacy, and that it can assumed that he is a conservative republican, is way off the mark in my view. Like you, I wouldn't much care if he was. I just don't think there's any real grounds to make an assumption either way.

I'm not making any assumptions, just saying that he left the door open for the questions in the first place. And completely agree that fake outrage is inevitable.

We might actually be in agreement here. Anyway Tanguay sucks.

Brady can support Trump or Rubio or Hillary or Sanders, it doesn't make a difference. But to say it's just something someone gave him and he tossed it in his locker is a bit much. He's done a million interviews in front of his locker and he had to know it would be seen by putting where he did.

Kirk Minihane - "That's My Boy is a top 25 comedy movie of all time."

This is just awful, awful radio.
I have a friend who agrees with him. I just don't get it.

I mean, it wasn't as godawful as most of the other garbage hes done for the last 15 years, but that's an awful low bar...

Gary Tanguay is the worst, I just have nothing else, he's just awful.
He was as bad today as I've ever heard, and that's saying something.

Saying that Brady is a narcissistic, publicity hound, star fucker. Loves the attention. Loves hanging out with Affleck and Wahlberg. He pointed to being in a movie with Wahlberg as an example. He thinks Brady loves the attention he's getting from the Trump stuff yesterday. When pressed on when he has ever had public pictures taken with any of these guys (other than the nanny displaying his rings) or any other instances when he has been like this, Tanguay had nothing.

It's pretty simple, Tanguay's act is working. You're talking about him and I'm sure the phone lines light up with callers wanting to go off on him. People love to be outraged and Tanguay gives them plenty of opportunity.

Exactly. This is the same shtick that Felger and Mazz pull all the time. Only with Felger, you know he's doing it intentionally while with Tanguay, the line between act and real is a lot harder to distinguish.

Interesting theory. Although I know I personally can't change the dial fast enough as soon as I hear Tanguay's voice.

Tanguay is definitely "working." He's been brought back too often for it to be just a means of replacing people on vacation. They're even using him to "anger" the afternoon show, etc.

It's schtick. Sometimes Tanguay even seems to be chuckling about the moronic positions he has to take, but it's got to be fun taking rips at Dale all the time and having it be station-sanctioned and likely station-mandated.

Agree that the Tanguay thing is most definitely working. If he wants to have uninformed/trollish takes, fine. He'll get the shit kicked out of him by Minihane and Callahan and that's when it's borderline entertaining. As Minihane mentioned this morning, Tanguay is more fun than JD since you can actually rip on him, call him a moron and not worry about anything. If Felger challenged Mazz and called him an idiot once in a while - that show would be way more entertaining.

The schtick doesn't work as well on other shows because they take him more seriously.

Absolutely. In fact, I'd even say Tanguay is the favorite to replace Dino whenever he decides to sail off into the sunset for good.

There probably aren't a lot of people who could take working with Minihane on a daily basis, never mind work well with him. Tanguay seems to be one of the few people who Minihane actually likes, for whatever reason.

Because the Minihane schtik is to be cranky, abusive and insulting. It worked until he directed it at Erin Andrews. They have now decided the persona works, but needs to be directed at (1) in house -- their producers, (2) in house -- Tanguay, (3) "safe" other media types (T&R, Comcast, NESN), and (4) Patriot deflate gate writers from other towns (limited pool).

Yeah the above is correct Tangauy's job is to say stupid things and get abused by the other hosts. Tanguay is dumb enough and desperate enough to go with it.
I guess some people think it's entertaining, I don't see it.

I'm with you. If Tanguay is helping the WEEI #s, so be it, but I'm not the least bit entertained by it and change the station anytime I hear him.

@dennisandcallahan Tom Brady and Donald Trump is the best talk radio topic in the country. Anyone who says they change the channel when they hear it is lying.

That about sums it up. I tried listening a few times and this is all they talk about. Brutal radio.

That is my problem with this show in a nutshell. The consistently say that their point of view is the majority opinion for Americans. It usually isn't and I quickly go back to Toucher & Rich.

Jesus. Volin couldn't come off worse here and Portnoy absolutely destroys him.

Volin's true nature and agenda couldn't have shone through more clearly. He doesn't deserve another click (not that he did before). Man it's a shame the levels the Globe has sunk to these days.

Wow yeah he's terrible. He's the worst kind of troll where he can't even argue his points with someone knowledgeable so he resorts to ad homenim attacks. Him saying Portnoy isn't a journalist and saying he uses clickbait and Portnoy basically saying "Yes but am I wrong?" was great. Volin has an incredibly high opinion of himself. He thinks he's Bob Woodward.

Just for starters, let's set the Way Back Machine to August 8, 2015:

Portnoy's an unapologetic dink, but Volin should have known better.

Volin is truly dimwitted... one of those people you squint at because they're so thick.

Dino's Twitter account looks like he's falling off the wagon again. As much as I despise him it's sad to see someone struggling with addiction

Mad Dog was on D & C this morning, and he said that the Mara's LOVED Bill Belichick, but that George Young absolutely despised him, calling him, "the worst human being I've ever known." According to Dog, because Young had a stipulation in his contract that he had final say in hiring any Giant head coaches, he nixed BB, which is why Ray Handley was hired instead. I was a longtime listener of Mike and the Mad Dog, and George Young was one of their all-time favorite guests. He appeared with them many times from 1989 until he died in 2001. This is new information to me - but it makes a lot of sense.

I'm guessing this morning they've been apologizing for putting out a false tweet about Chandler Jones OD'ing at Gronk's house all morning?

I'd be sad if they didn't hold themselves to the same standard they've been burying Mort over for a year.

I literally just came here to post something similar. I would expect they already have sent out a statement acknowledging their misinformation, which no question, has set the story. Pro Football Talk spread the story nationally right away based on the initial tweet. As we know, that is all that matters once it is out there. D&C have been telling everybody that about Mort for nearly a year.

They were insufferable this morning, sticking out their chests and boasting about the how important this story is, that it needs to become a bigger deal and that there is no way that the other media outlets in the market arn't digging deeper. Nothing is more obnoxious then someone in the media trying to convince you to care about something that just isn't a big deal or a huge story.

You can tell that they want it to be a bigger story, because it will come back that they were the ones that "broke" it. They were also ragging on the local media for not pushing Belichick more about how he got his black eye.

I think JD is already on record that he thinks the Pats will lose this weekend, and this is just adding more to it.

What a shock, there's a negative story involving the Patriots and Bruce Allen is skeptical of it.

He was D&C's number one fan during Deflategate. Funny how that works.

If you stood next to Bill Belichick, and he sneezed, and you didn't say God Bless You, Bruce Allen would accuse you of being a Patriots hater.

D&C had Charley Casserly on after this tweet:

Charley Casserly ‏@CharleyCasserly 23h23 hours ago
After review of tape #Broncos Manning outplayed #Patriots Brady. He was more accurate. He had 9 drops by his receivers. @nflnetwork

Casserly said he watched game film and came to this conclusion. He didn't support his case much except to say he can see things on film that can't be seen on TV, like coverage and schemes.

He also said "okay" about a kazillion times. He's not very good radio.
