Well, it was clearly personal.  Gammons' disdain for Felger was palpable.  At one point, Peter dismissed him with, "Watch the games!", completely dripping with contempt.  Felger was still fine-tuning his pompous douchebag approach to radio at that time, which he has now perfected.
I've come around on that a bit. It was obvious that Felger hated the Gammons segment because he couldn't end those interviews quickly enough. I figured it was just a personality conflict, but Gammons was also a douche to Toucher & Rich when they pretty much just lobbed softball questions about music and baseball to the guy. Felger is a blatant troll, but Gammons just seems to be an angry old man sitting on his high horse.

They unsurprisingly have a difficult time understanding that Caitlin Jenner likes chicks. Their entire lives are nuance and empathy free. It's unsurprising that Gerry would have an issue with Dennis seeking treatment. I think this is real. Much like when they griped about Salk. I'll enjoy the meltdown.

Yesterday, good old Gerry questioned saving the juvenile great white shark in Chatham, calling the animal a "menace", and likening it to Obama exchanging terrorists for one US hostage, sending them back into the world to kill us all. He told one of the rescuers that he would have blood on his hands if that baby great white took off some little kid's arm. Any discussion of the importance of sharks in the food chain was lost on him, since humans are ultimately the biggest and baddest and should not be concerned about the loss of the ocean's top predator.  The willful ignorance is off the charts.

Not to get all V&N, but this guys's fear of everything fits nicely into recent studies of brain function and political leanings.

And he's whispering to the Inside Track Gals that he's the number one candidate to replace Orsillo.

It was pure speculation based on Orsillo taking a (forced?) vacation this week and the AAA guy doing some games.

Edit:Specify who was taking the vacation.

I think it's been just the last two years but I really pay very little attention to the announcers so if they weren't talking about it this morning I'd have no idea.

Remsillo has been as good as they've ever been in prior years.  I would actually miss them breaking up at this point.  Not that I'd want to lend Ordway any sort of credit if his speculation is based on anything.

I've never seen hell but I think I listened to hell this morning with Gary Tanguay guest hosting. Just beyond brutal this morning.

Yesterday was an interesting peek into Minnihane's brain. They were talking a bit about Steve Buckley and his sexuality (he's gay) and Minnihane asked Buckley something along the lines of "I know who you are (meaning he's gay) but you mean to tell me you think Don Orsillo is better looking than Heidi Wattney?" I guess Buck explained that he thought Wattney was pretty and Orsillo wasn't really his style. He kept saying, "But she's Heidi Wattney!"

It's like he's never even heard of a gay person before.

Callahan sounded really hoarse yesterday...and heard Tanguay today...so extended "vacation"?

Tanguay is brutal as a host. Just brings absolutely zero to the table in terms of sports knowledge, wit, anything at all.

HOWEVER, his explanation of why there's a different standard for women and minorities being "offended" vs. white men was about the most lucid you're ever likely to hear on sports radio. He's a buffoon, but genuinely seemed to get the difference between "PC" and actual systemic and institutional discrimination. Pretty well done.

I was going to post the same thing. Tanguay was very good today on the PC topic. It's clear he's not a dumb man. He just plays a dumb character.

And that's the worst thing about Tanguay, by the way. His schtick is so transparent. Lots of sports talk show hosts have stupid sports takes, but he comes across as shallower than most. There's no substance behind anything he says.

But when the topic strays from sports, Tanguay seems to be alright. He's been a good liberal foil on that show a couple of times over the last several weeks. The Colmes to Callahan/Minihane's Hannity, so to speak.

If D&C is going to take on a more political and lifestyle tone, which it seems like it will as long as Minihane and Callahan are around, Tanguay's role will probably expand. He also appears to be one of the few people who meshes well with Minihane, and that's important if Minihane is going to be the future of morning drive on EEI.

Say what you want about this show (and I dislike it for the most part) - but they're really putting Cherington's feet on the fire in this interview. The questions are pretty tough, and you can tell Ben's having a bit of trouble with them - maybe because he doesn't have the answer, but mostly (I think) because there's only so much he can say publicly. They're managing to make him come off as less assured than usual..

My God, I didn't think I could hate anyone more than Gerry Callahan, but Gary Tanguay hasn't taken care of that.  He completely sucks.  Brutal.  Why would WEEI have him fill in for Callahan?  Holy shit, he's ineffably horrible.

Mort ducks out cowardly.

I do have to say, that these three have been "must listen" radio this past week. Plus, they are clearly on the good guys side, unlike the leading sports radio show in town (and as a Bernie Sanders supporter, I loathe Dennis and Callahan normally).

Mort sent them an email explaining why he declined to appear. Words to the effect that he did not want to put his reporting on the matter in the middle of the story. I guess that's his way of being humble? Then goes on to say that he'll talk when all the lawsuits are over (hopefully when Brady wins! Thanks for the pander, bro.) which is to say lawyers have advised him (threatened him, more likely) to close his damn mouth until it's over.

I've listened to these guys probably twice in three years - I live in San Diego and I really can't stand D&C.  I purposely woke up early today to listen to the interview.  I have to say, I'm loving how they're calling out Felger and Mazz specifically.  They're actually playing clips of those two bozos.

I still can't stand D&C but their attitude is refreshing on this topic.

Likewise.

On occasion I listen to T&R in the AM (not often) but never D&C, but I put them on today to hear Mort. D&C are like the anti-F&M, its refreshing. But I can see where their lack of fire and contrived controversy might not drive ratings

Sober John Dennis is good listening. Prepared, sourced, organized....it really is like a different guy. Congrats to him - he's earned it.

Pro Football Talk has the transcript of the note that was read on the air from Mortensen to Dennis and Callahan backing out of the interview:

“You guys made a mistake by drumming up business for the show and how I would address my reporting for the first time,” Mortensen informed WEEI. “I will not allow WEEI, [Patriots owner Robert] Kraft or anybody to make me the centerpiece of a story that has been misreported far beyond anything I did in the first 48 hours. Maybe when the lawsuit is settled, in Brady’s favor, I hope, we can revisit. Don’t call.”
One wonders why Mortensen agreed to go on the program in the first place, because if it didn’t look like he had something to hide before, well, it really looks like it now.

This is such a big win for D&C. Have to say they really made Schefter squirm yesterday, in a way that jeopardized their relationship with him, and what they're doing isn't "safe."

Other reporters will not like this and will be less likely to come on the show. But that's new and different for them.

And, man, they've been brutal on Cherington. Next interview with him should be interesting.

It was such a good get that I get why they put it out there that he was coming on but they probably would've been better served if they kept it to themselves and just popped him on at 7:45.

There's something to be said for feeling like a lame duck. Dennis in particular can see the finish line and Minihane has proven he gives no fucks...seems like a recipe for an interesting show for the next couple years.

Dennis "reporting" that Kensil was Mortensen's leaker. Gee, I wonder who Dino's source is on that one. These guys must need an Olympic sized swimming pool for all the water they're carrying for the Krafts/Brady.

Would that pool be bigger or smaller than the one ESPN has for carrying the NFL's?

This doesn't even make sense! How would Brady/Kraft know that Kensil in the NFL front office leaked incorrect information to Mort, an employee of ESPN???? The NFL won't even share the data collected by the Wells report with Brady, nm stuff like this. Felger, is that you? Or did Troy Vincent get an account here?

Ugh, I can't stand ForKeeps and think his comment that pissed you off was useless and unnecessary, however, Kensil's name has been floating around since Day 1.  It's not unfathomable that someone in the Patriots organization "knows" or is willing to use D&C (like someone used Mort) to put Kensil's feet to the fire.

edit: Even if they know it wasn't Kensil I'm sure they are enjoying watching him hide and squirm for his supposed (Or were they proven I forget) comments at half time during the AFCCG.

If/when Dennis leaves--Dennis' FL retirement home has been mentioned on the show w/ increased frequency in recent months--I'd love to see Dale moved into the lead host chair. Before Dale got his full-time gig back, the trio of Dale (filling in for Dennis), Callahan, and Minihane produced some of the most entertaining and engaging shows I'd heard on WEEI in years. Dale did a great job keeping the shows on topic (i.e. Callahan's political rants were curtailed considerably) and he didn't hesitate to call BS on Callahan & Minhane's opinions when warranted. Callahan & Minihane also seemed to enjoy getting Dale riled up and out of his comfort zone, which is when Dale is at his best IMO. Holley & Thornton acquiesce to Dale's point of view far too often, which makes the revamped D&H show a stale and predictable listen on most days (although I still prefer it to Felger & Mazz considerably).

I don't understand this... so if Dennis was given some juicy inside info by a member of the Kraft family (who Dennis is friendly with from his days at WHDH), rather than share that info with his listening audience, he should have just kept it under his hat to avoid the appearance of advancing the Kraft agenda? And how does reporting a material fact about the source of an erroneous media leak, one which has generated countless hours of speculation and damaged the reputations of numerous individuals, constitute "carrying water" for the Krafts? Don't those who anonymously and deliberately leak false info deserve to be outed and held accountable?

Which makes it strange that Mort would agree to appear in the first place.  I mean, ESPN has had a longstanding issue with their staff appearing on non-ESPN outlets.  It's like Mort was trying to slip some news to D&C without anyone noticing -- but if it was real news, then certainly people would have noticed after the fact.  That wouldn't have looked good for Mort either.

Makes me wonder if maybe he never did agree to talk about the tweet in the first place and D&C totally misled everyone just to generate ratings.
