last time I checked, she is actually Asian.

Putting everything else aside, last time I checked, she was born and raised in Hawaii.

As long as you are checking wikipedia, where are her parents from?

I think anyone following sports since, say, 2005, would know she's from Hawaii. I think if you asked her, she'd say "I am an American."  I understand that doesn't matter to Callahan.  HE will tell us who is an American and who isn't.

As I suggested, though, it doesn't really matter.  Minihane's misogyny, combined with Callahan's chauvinism win the day.

Racism.  He created an Asian stereotype ("Butterface?  What do you expect from those Asians").

He said something racist.

I can't believe he said that, well I guess I can. It's an outrage and I don't know how a radio personality can get away with saying that without repercussions. I listen to these buffoons for approx 20-30 minutes on my iphone in the morning during my commute (I'm in NY and they are my only Boston option) and pretty much every day in that short amount of time I am angered or shocked by something one of them says (Minihane less).

Does anyone know of any contact info to complain about this and Callahan's overall bigotry? I text weei often with complaints but only receive a generated spam message in return. I guess it may be time to try calling them.

I realize that. I was, unfortunately, chasing a related ignorant comment and gave the appearance of ignoring the obvious one.

You like everything "but her face".  Just means she's got a great body, but she's ugly in the face.
.
.
.
Which is so not true in regards to Michelle Wie, but that's just my opinion.  But I'm asian, so what do I know?

Is this really a racist comment though or a matter of opinion?  I hate Callahan as much as the next guy and I can't wait for these clowns to get off the air, but saying you are not attracted to Asian's is not racist in my opinion.  I am not in the same boat as I find plenty of Asian women attractive, but I don't think it is racist to say you are not attracted to them because they are Asian.  It doesn't mean one would discriminate against an Asian necessarily other than not wanting to sleep with her.

Racism to me would be Callahan saying she shouldn't be in this country or using a racial slur against her or something of that ilk which he has done before I would believe in other situations. I just don't think in this instance it could be considered racist necessarily.  Just a horrible taste in women.

Saying all Asians look alike with respect to facial features isn't a real strong position with respect to, well, respect for others.

I did not even put those two together.  I totally missed that, if that was his intention and then yes that is a totally racist and a disgrace.

Yes, saying Asian women have good bodies and ugly faces is racist. Saying you are not specifically attracted to Asians is not. That's the difference.

I fully understand this point of view, but I know people who are not attracted to certain races whatsoever, but in my book they are not racist for not being attracted to them.

However as was explained above, if his true intention was meant that way, then it was horribly racist.

What is the difference though?  If you are not attracted to Asian's or any other specific race, there is usually a reason why.  Maybe in the particualr person's opinion it is because he believes their faces to be ugly and thus is not attracted to them, or it could be the reverse, he doesn't like their bodies or some specific feature that most of that race has.  Whatever I am going to stop here, because I will probably end up getting myself in trouble and people will disagree I am sure, and anyways the point is moot if Callahan was using the "yellowness" of butter when referring to Wie.  That is 100% racist.

Gerry followed it up by quickly stating how Minnihane loves Asians. Kirk said he doesn't love all of them and would prefer Kobe Thai over Wie. Then they all shared a giggle, because you know talking about porn stars is funny.

"butterface" hes meant "ugly" since before Howard Stern made it a staple of his show 25 years ago.

He was commenting on her looks, which makes him a misogynist asshole.  Big surprise there.
Yes, saying Asian women have good bodies and ugly faces is racist. Saying you are not specifically attracted to Asians is not. That's the difference.

His comment reeks of "they all look the same to me," which is on the wrong side of the line.

I think it is possible that one's tastes might sway them away from people who look one way or another, just like some people prefer blondes over brunettes or whatever, and in that vein I guess I understand that one's preference might be towards women who look more "western" or whatever.

But, yes, I am going to say the declarative statement that "I am not attracted to Asians" is pretty racist in that it comes pretty damn close to the "they all look alike" line.  "Asians" encompasses several different nationalities, some of whom really do not look at that much alike, and millions (billions?) of women.  How can a person say they are not attracted to any Asian women?  I think it is a pretty racist statement to make.

Wow.  Good catch.  This would actually mean he didn't even understand the term "butterface" and instead took it more literally.

Honestly, reading just the quote from above and not actually hearing it, I didn't make or think he made a connection between the butterface and her race.  I just took it was him saying that all Asian women were ugly.  Which is different than saying "I think Asians are ugly".  But that's just because Callahan is known to say stupid crap like that...I probably wouldn't have an issue with most people making a crack about that.  But on top of the whole "eating dog" thing that I actually heard last week, that show doesn't really deserve too much leeway.

Just about any statement that takes the form  "All [insert race or nationality here] are [insert adjective here]" is inherently ignorant.  Not all ignorance is racism; all racism is grounded in ignorance.  I think Callahan has previously claimed his place on the spectrum.

I almost hate to defend him 'cause I mostly find him a curmudgeon but I was listening this morning got a far different impression of what Callahan said.  Minihane indeed called Michelle Wie a butterface and Callahan did indeed say she's asian but if anything it seemed to me both D & C were disagreeing with Minihane's characterization of her as a butterface in the first place.  The segment went something like this (not verbatim of course):

- [Talk about Wie's win this weekend, the purple(?) shorts she was wearing and her general attractiveness.]
- Minihane: She's a butterface.
- Dennis or Callahan (not sure): I think she's kinda cute.
- [Crosstalk]: Butterface/kinda cute.
- Callahan: She's asian.  I thought you liked...  [crosstalk]
- Minihane: I like some more than others.  I like (name i didn't recognize nor remember)
- [D&C crosstalk]: Who's that? Never heard of her.
- Minihane: She's a performer in the adult film industry.

Of course I may have misheard as well.

Thanks I haven't tried that. I had assumed there would be an app for 98.5 or The Sports Hub specifically (like EEI) so I searched those and didn't come up with anything.

In your mind, it's OK to make racial stereotype comments if the person you're making them about is actually that race?

Obviously I don't know what was going on in his head, so maybe I'm wrong. But their MO does seem to be to try and work right up to the very edge - to say things that are just short of what they could really be called out on. And to be very amused with themselves while they do it. They're trolls, and I think it's unfortunate they still have enough of an audience to be on the air.

If this is closer to what he said then it's not nearly as bad as what the other guy posted. Whoops.

Which is annoying because a couple weeks ago I posted a verbatim quote of his that appeared to be problematic and people spent two pages lambasting me for not "linking to a source" yet this guy posts something that it turns out is highly misleading and everyone just runs with it.

As one of the people lambasting you a few weeks ago I completely agree with you on this comment.
There is a world of difference between what has been posted here ranging from "a bit questionable" to "possibly fireable".

I don't know, saying an attractive woman isn't attractive due to her race seems pretty racist (I'm not opining on Michelle Wie here, for what it's worth, but she's by no objective measure an ugly person).

Saying most women are attractive due to their race is just creepy.

Whatever Callahan's motive was (be it 'Asians are butterfaces' or a reference to butter being yellow), it was just par for the course from someone who is a documented racist.

I dont find many Asian women attractive. I dont think it makes me racist, because I dont think its my choice on what I find attractive or not. Unless we're deciding its a persons choice as to what they find attractive(which I think we can all agree is nonsense.)

That isnt to say I find them all unattractive, but I find a much smaller % of Asian women attractive then white, spanish, and black girls.

I do think thats different then saying "shes a butterface because shes Asian", but Im OK with being wrong.

Minihane wrote an article for the EEI site essentially saying the same thing. In every article of his I've read (admittedly not many), the guy stakes out an inflammatory position and espouses it with zero wit or charm. It's guilty of two crimes: it's shameless trolling, and it isn't even entertaining. Also, unless you do it very well, writing an article in the 'Dear Subject' format comes off very lame and distracting.

Yea there nothing wrong or racist about this.  I actually agree with you, I don't find the majority of asian women to be attractive.  Some I do, but many I do not.  However, just because I don't want to spontaneously make out with many Asian women does not mean that I harbor any ill will or negative thoughts about them.  I think those people suggesting that lack of 'attractiveness' to a particular type of person makes them bad or racist people are pretty far off base here.  You are attracted to what you are attracted to for many reasons, mostly beyond your control.
