They pander to the basest level of the human condition.  The fear of the 'other'.  They champion ignorance and they celebrate hate.  Their demagoguery turned me off years ago and the only reason I check on this thread is to hopefully someday read that enough people have evolved to the point where their shtick no longer sells enough radio ads to keep WEEI afloat.

Sadly I feel I'll be waiting a long time.

I usually have a sports talk show on in the background while I work, preferably on TV. And that's really the only reason D&C has even been an option. I also can't pull in 98.5 here on the Cape unless I'm in my car, and even then it's hardly a clear signal, and streaming isn't an option due to Comcast being a bunch of cunts with their bandwidth spigot (no FiOs competition, here, so they do whatever the fuck they want).

So I just saw a promo on CBS during the FL-KY game that WFAN's Boomer & Carton is being simulcast on CBS Sports Network. I thought this was a forthcoming thing, but now I see that it's been airing since January 6.

I have officially wasted 2 months of my life, but now am saved.

These guys are like FOX mouthpieces.  Along with the gays bringing down the country shit, just this morning, they made jokes about leaving their cars on all night (to hasten "global warming" because, ya know, it's frickin' cold out), and suggesting China implement knife access restrictions after a mass stabbing (because, ya know, that's what the bleeding hearts want to do with our precious guns, ha ha).  Boring, lame, and predictable.
It must be an Entercom thing, because the Hillman does the same schtick and has been for well over a decade.

I understand the listener base is mostly Central MA and blue collar workers, but...yeah. It seems like a systemic issue with Entercom that they hate minorities/gays/librulz

Edit: Yikes, the do play to the lunatic fringe. WRKO carries Limbaugh and Coast to Coast AM.

Either Kirk Minnihan is very smart, or Gerry Callahan is very dumb.

I've been listening to these guys a bit more than usual because I find the Callahan/Minnihan battles to be pretty compelling radio. The reason? Callahan has no idea what he's talking about*. This morning, Callahan was talking about how the Bucs are going to give Revis to the Patriots because, well, the Patriots "want" him and the Bucs stink so, why wouldn't they? And Minnihan kept hammering Callahan and questioning him, so much so that Callahan was just yelling. He sounded like Will Ferrell in the "I DRIVE A DODGE STRATUS!" skit from SNL.

* I always thought that Callahan was a repugnant, bigoted, sexist, homophobic jackass BUT I thought that he knew his sports. Or at least could talk intelligently about the Boston sports scene. He can't. At least he can't when someone who is paying attention to the debate, hasn't checked out and wants to debate (John Dennis hasn't fit this bill in decades). In the relative short time that I'm in the car and listening to EEI, Callahan gets his ass kicked by Minnihan at pretty much everything.

Not only has America passed Gerry Callahan by, but the sports world has too. It's pretty sad.

Gerry's probably craftier than one thinks.  If he goes along with Minihane and says that the Bucs wouldn't trade Revis to the Pats, then there is no conversation; no radio content.  Not that such content is any good, but these guys always push false arguments to stir conversation.

No. If you heard this exchange this morning, there is no craftiness behind it. Or if there was, Callahan should call up the Farrellys and demand to be in their next piece-of-crap movie, because he's a hell of an actor. Callahan's basic reason for the Bucs trading Revis was, "Because Tampa stinks and the Patriots are good." And if there was a script or an outline to the fight, then Callahan either forgot his parts and didn't bother to research his side because he sounded like a complete idiot.

It must be so nice to live in Gerry's black and white world where all decisions are either right or wrong, every action is either good or evil, and hindsight is always 20/20.

Callahan said every woman who didn't testify against Remy "has blood on their hands" (quoting) except for Martell, he wasn't going to speak against her since she's dead. Minihane replied (paraphrasing), "You're always the toughest guy in the room" and pointed out the logically, if Callahan was blaming victims, he couldn't let one off just because she was dead. Callahan yelled that OK, she wasn't off the hook, that he never said "they had blood on their hands" (within two minutes of saying they did), and that Minihane protecting the victims was "gutless and politically correct."

I have got to stop changing the channel when Toucher & Rich go on commercial.

Gerry is also pretty proud of his stance.  RT'ing somebody telling him that he's never come across worse and it was his absolute low point.

What a vile human being.

Dennis and Callahan are both awful human beings even if most of their stuff is an 'act'.  But whats really much sadder than that is that there is enough of a listening audience in this area that isnt repulsed by them enough to stop listening.  I know a lot of us here do the occasional listen during breaks, but I am talking about the loyal every day listeners.  In Callahan terms, every one of those really has blood on their hands.

Good for you. T&R are basically the complete opposite of "HOT sports takes" They hate that kind of radio and make fund of it and generally provide "RATIONAL sports takes". And if you think T&R are a tired act but listen to D&C well I don't know what to tell you

This doesn't sound like the opinion of somebody who has listened to T&R. Hot sports takes are a common subject of their mockery.

I don't even know how to react to this.  Hot sports takes?  That doesn't come remotely close to describing their show.  And T&R are a tired act but D&C who have basically been doing the same show every morning for 15 years and put zero effort into making it different are fresh and new or something?  WTF?

This is VirtualRheal's shtick. His other ten posts in the T&R thread also claim they're a tired act with HOT sports takes. He's a real addition to the site.

So what you're saying is VirtualRheal is a "tired act"? How fitting.

It only took him 3 posts to become tired as well, I believe that's a record.

D&C mentioning how Chad Finn has not weighed in on Remy was interesting. They don't like him cause he doesn't kiss their ass like the Inside Track does in the Herald.

They don't like him because he dares to be critical of them in print, and point out obvious things, like Minnihane's presence helped pull the show out of a tailspin.

Finn's media column is usually on Friday, which might explain his not weighing in.  Or he might be doing something that wouldn't possibly occur to Einstein  Dennis and Newton  Callahan -- he's taking some time to "think" before he opens his mouth.
I'd be surprised if he doesn't lead off with Remy.  But I suspect he'll leave the moral judgments to the morning show experts.

It feels like the show has taken a different direction, a couple times in the last week Dennis and Minihane have purposefully pushed Callahan aside after he started to go over the deep end.  The other day it was Gerry talking about Jared Remy's old girlfriends having blood on their hands and this morning Gerry was getting ready to do some old fashioned 'Globe bias' bashing about the sensationalistic cover photo regarding yesterday's tragedy before Dennis just told him "Knock it off, this isn't the time".  Gerry looked like someone had slapped him "What, I was just trying to explain how the photog wants to win the Pulitzer"

Kirk's line the other day about him always being the toughest guy in the room was perfect.

Anyone know how long this contract is?  I know EEI has Coffee with the Coach and the Brady interview, but it seems odd that they still have this contract when the SportsHub has the Patriots games themselves.

Granted Bill hasnt faced any real difficult questions in his interviews so I can see why he would want to avoid Felger.  But if I'm Brady I'd probably rather avoid the racists even if it means I have to talk to some jokers.

Bill with Felger would be gold. He would either try to be tough and Bill would turn him into Breer 2.0 or we would get a lot of "How's the weather in Foxboro Bill?"

I would love to have those weekly (weakly? ;)) interviews moved to 98.5. How awesome would it be to have Belichick in studio with Toucher and Rich making a BBPBJ sandwich?

Brady and Belichick don't really have much say in who gets their weekly radio interview.  They come part and parcel with the "Patriots Monday" package for which Entercom pays (probably really well) to have the rights.  No idea when that contract runs out, but I can't imagine it is one that Entercom is just going to walk away from like they did with the Celtics.

Good point.

And if BB/Brady did move to 98.5, they'd do the interview with Zolak. There is a nice spot on TSH for jock-sniffing interviews.

I think this qualifies as a "news" story and not a football story. Therefore it is not part of the contract. The contract just covers the football season. Did they black it out on tv?

With regards to how 'eei have "Patriots Monday" with Brady and BB I think it was mentioned that after 98.5 launched as the official broadcast partner of the Pats that Bob Kraft still wanted 'eei in so that their product was as diversified as possible.  I'm sure 98.5/ CBS radio doesn't love that arrangement at all but Mr. Kraft holds the power.

I don't know whether/when the relevant contracts have been renewed, but when Patriots Monday began, TSH didn't exist, and 98.5 was "Patriots Rock Radio Network". I believe that radio broadcast rights for football games is not an especially prized gem-- football is not an especially radio-friendly sport, and most fans are home and watching TV on Sundays. So I don't know that WEEI ever even put in a serious bid for Pats broadcast rights; I believe baseball is still the king of "radio sports".

I think the history was kinda that WEEI, as a sports-talk station, did want the "Patriot Monday" content, but didn't especially covet the Pats broadcast rights. Kraft's "diversification" line may simply have been after-the-fact spin to explain why their game broadcasts are on the new #1 sports station, while the interview packages were still on the #2 talk station. The reality might simply be that they sold the rights to those things separately to the high-bidders, and that TSH was not a sports station when "Patriot Monday" was sold to WEEI.
