I don't know what he said, but before all this went down I was listening today and I couldn't believe that for the fifth f*cking day in a row Callahan was going off about Michael Sam.  Five days in a row.  I wonder if he isn't actually deranged.  'EEI should just put him and Dennis on Am 680 and call it a day.

I have been suggesting this for a long time.  This is such an easy, cheap solution for them.  And the conservative guy that 680 has right now in morning drive, Kuhner, is absolutely horrible.  It would actually be a big upgrade.

Seems easy, but what if, in reality, they know even less about poltics and current events than they do about sports. I realize that "knowledge" is not the top requirement for these jobs, but I thinks its fair to say that D & C "know" more about sports than they do anything else. And given that their sports opinions are rooted firmly in 1990 or so, the fact that they show no desire to learn anything knew suggests that they might not do too well if the the nominal sports foundation were removed.  Whatever their faults, sports still occupies a majority of their airtime (certainly a plurality); can you imagine the shitshow that would ensue if these clowns couldn't talk *any* sports (or very little)? There'd be dead air by week 3. (And since entercome wouldn't want them to compete with whoever replaces them on WEEI, sportstalk would likely be limited in their new gig).

Of course it would be a big upgrade.  Then they could just go fucking crazy ........ or, crazier ........... and do a simulcast with Ruch Limebow.  And no one would listen to them but the miserable creeps who see an illegal immigrant in every Stop & Shop, using their EBT cards.

You know what's fucked up about all this for me?  When these guys talk about SPORTS, AND ONLY SPORTS, I can listen to them.  I like them actually.  I even think that Callahan writes fairly well, I've always thought that.  Even John Dennis I liked when he was at Channel 7. I just simply don't understand why they are so mean.  What happened in their lives that caused them to hate as much as they do, hate in such a petty, juvenile way? I have friends who view the world so differently from me but remain my dear friends because they are kind and decent.  They like me, even though I come from a different place.  These guys hate themselves.  They hate a lot of things.  Why?  What a waste of time and talent.

Totally agree. The problem is, they're always one turn of phrase away from comparing people to monkeys or god knows what else.

You must not have listened to them pre-TSH. They spent at least 75% of the time talking about politics/news.

I think you're right, but I don't think that matters. Their show in its current format (with maybe a little more politics) would fit on 680 in the same way Toucher and Rich fit on 98.5. I don't think they'd need to make major format or talking point changes.

Is this really over him saying that munchkins aren't a healthy breakfast option? Cause of all the obnoxious things they've said this would be the least controversial...and honestly, it's rather accurate. Sure, DD might not be thrilled, but are they trying to represent that they are good for breakfast?

This can't really be what he said, can it?

although I thoroughly enjoy watching weei fall, it's also pretty amusing to witness what an agenda the Globe has against WEEI, particularly the D&C show.

Complain about the stories that don't have my byline if you want, but I've personally been more than fair to them, especially in terms of writing about their turnaround in the mornings. I also haven't been wrong about a damn thing I've written about that station in five years on the beat.

Why is Kirk Minihane trapped on an island with these idiots? Minihane is good at sports radio. Hoping they turn the show over to him and pair him with a good co-host.

Nobody else finds the irony of one of the biggest homophobes in sports talk radio spending his snow day tweeting about pedicures?

Oh I don't disagree.  I think you've been more than fair, which is also amusing when John Dennis bashes you for being a mouthpiece for 98.5 (which is far from true).
But from an editorial standpoint as a whole, the Globe clearly likes to poke 'eei.

Alanis Morrissette would love the irony of D&C taking David Ortiz to task for 4 hours today for asking for an extra year to his contract even though he might not be worth the salary at the back end of the contract.  He's living on past glory.

And I only caught the tail end, so I may have missed something, but it sounds like creepy John Dennis was smitten with one of the girls who brought the coffee and donuts in.  GC talked about her having to get a restraining order.

Just had the pleasure of listening to some Dom from Lynnfield try to be a comedian with a bit about being raised by two "bull dyke lesbians" named frank and fred and how his fondest memories are having frank teach him to use the urinal.

All the while, Dennis is chuckling like he's got a front row seat with Louis CK.

Fuck these fucking homophobic assholes.

I didn't hear that part, but I flipped over to EEI (Rich was talking about how much he hates LeBron and I couldn't listen to that -- that horse is dead, it's pretty much beating glue now) and I heard Minnihan and Callahan really getting into it about same sex couples. Callahan kept asking Minnihan if he considered it "healthy" for two men or two women to raise a child. Minnihan kept asking him, "What do you mean by that?" and Callahan kept avoiding an answer. Finally Minnihan called him a dick three times and also a bigot before Dennis jumped in.

As far as car-crash radio goes, this was pretty good. Kirk Minnihan may be my new favorite Boston radio personality.

Too bad you flipped off of T+R, it was actually a really good interview with Mike Gorman where Gorman said he thought LeBron is the best player of all time and asked Rich flat out why he hated him so much, reasoning that other than being really good and participating in the "The Decision", he doesn't do anything negative. It was a fairly interesting back and forth, you might have just caught it at the wrong time.

Mike Gorman is a great interview, and I hate basketball.

I didn't hear it, but I doubt he  "avoid[ed] an answer."  More likely he didn't have an answer.

Coincidentally, "What do you mean by that?" is what I tell my teenaged daughters to ask anyone who does little more than regurgitate some ignorant talking point like "gay marriage will destroy traditional marriage" or "women can't/shouldn't do 'x'."   It's unlikely that the speaker can hit the ball back over the net.  And arguing "yes it is...no it isn't" is a pointless exercise. Much better t let them expose their own ignorance.

I heard that and agree, it was a terrific interview. It was when they came back from after that break and Rich said something like, "Mike and I were discussing why I hate LeBron James and I couldn't really tell him, now I have a thousand reasons." And then started talking about what a dick LeBron is. Again, maybe he is or he isn't, but we've been down this road before a lot and I just got real bored real quick.

I still enjoy T&R much more than D&C, but there are times when both shows are equally inane.

That's where he misses Fred, because I doubt Fred would have put up with him going on too long about Lebron. They both usually know how to steer the conversation back to something interesting when the other is rambling too much.

Minnihan is perfect when he plays the role of Callahan-foil because he doesn't get emotional or reactionary when responding to Gerry's antiquated/racist/homophobic bullshit. Gerry will start to pontificate about something or other when Minnihan asks something like, "Why does this upset you?" or the above "What do you mean?" When asking those questions, Minnihan comes off as genuinely confused by Gerry's reaction. Rather than coming off as a dick trying to get a rise out of Gerry, Minnihan sounds like a sincere live and let live type who isn't bothered by people who aren't affecting him. D&C still make me cringe but WEEI hit the jackpot with Minnihan in terms of finding someone to temper the bullshit.

He actually got Callahan to say something of substance in terms of what he believes. That being gay marriage is "just a front in cultural war that leads to other, more serious casualties."

I always love hearing Mike Gorman on T&R.  My favorite is when they get him talking about Tommy Heinsohn, and Gorman tries to change the subject.  A year ago they got Gorman to admit that when Heinsohn was playing for the Celtics, there was a kid who worked for the Celtics whose job it was to hand him a lit cigarette in the tunnel immediately after each game ended.  Priceless.

Sorry for the hijack.  Fuck Dennis and Callahan, they suck.

These guys are like FOX mouthpieces.  Along with the gays bringing down the country shit, just this morning, they made jokes about leaving their cars on all night (to hasten "global warming" because, ya know, it's frickin' cold out), and suggesting China implement knife access restrictions after a mass stabbing (because, ya know, that's what the bleeding hearts want to do with our precious guns, ha ha).  Boring, lame, and predictable.
