When did he say "goddamn"? I'm surprised more Yankees officials/media haven't said something about how unprofessional they thought it was, but I thought the end was great.

"Their time is done. It's over!"

I didn't hear him say goddamn either. Are you sure about that Frat?

If "screw 'em" was the worst thing the kid said, I really don't see the harm in it. Are we really getting upset about kids using the clean version of dirty words now?

This sums up my feelings as well.

Complaining about this is why TV and radio entertainment are so boring and watered down.

* I didn't think he said "goddamn." A couple of co-workers thought he said it and I wanted to put it out there to get your reaction to see if he actually said it.

* I wouldn't see my niece or nephew for two months because they'd be locked in a cave. (A little hyperbole there, but you see my point.)

* That's from a Disney movie? Really? I have to say I honestly have no idea what movie that's from ("Angels In The Outfield?"). Movies are movies and actors are actors, but having a 5 year old use such language strikes me as inappropriate. My initial reaction was one of shocking awkwardness.

Evidently you've never seen Miracle. It was Herb Brooks pre-game speech to the US hockey team before the big game against Russia.

Also "screw them" is wrong for a kid to say? I can think of far worse things.

Sure it is. And there are far worse things. This isn't a lowest common denominator argument here. The question is: is it inappropriate? I think yes, but we're getting off track from making fun of D&C.

Anyway, looks like this kid's been doing this routine for some time, and he was apparently a YouTube sensation.

I just thought the whole thing was rather tacky. ESPN's in bed with Disney, so I suppose it would make sense for them to promote their movie anyway. I guess I really am out of the loop on pop culture now. Get off my lawn!

I was listening to Will Leitch being interviewed about his new book on a Baseball Prospectus podcast and the topic briefly turned to Tiger Woods and his recent troubles. Will noted that when stories, such as Tiger's, receive attention on shows like Nancy Grace, that is when real sports fans tune out to the story. It's no longer a sports story at that point.
Right away I started thinking about D & C and thought "those kind of stories are all that those guys talk about" and that's why I find them completely intolerable to listen to in the morning. I live in SE CT so they are my only option for early AM Boston sports talk in my car, so it drives me crazy when they refuse to talk about sports.
Lately it's been all about Tiger and this morning it was all about Rothlisberger. It's gotten to the point were I have to go to confession on the weekend to seek forgiveness for the vile things I wish to be visited upon them during the week.
I turn them on in the AM, just hoping for some discussion about Lester's early season struggles, the B's & C's playoff chances, the Patriots plan for the NFL draft. Anything at all sports related.
And that's not even touching on the political angle of their show. The Tiger episode is the worst. I also believe their vitriol towards Tiger is partially motivated by jealously.

Sorry to break it to you but it isn't just D&C isn't the only show that has been talking about this stuff non-stop. Every radio show has been from Toucher and Rich, to Felger and Mazz, to The Big Show. They are the big topics of the day and everyone that has an opinion wants to call in and talk about it.

That's true, but his point is valid. Their show does veer towars the most shocking of stories in sports.

My morning commute used to coincide with "Headlines", which usually amounted to giving me my morning update on gruesome murder/child abuse or political waste/corruption.

I wish nothing but ill for Dennis and Callahan. As far as I am concerned they are complete scumbags and do nothing for WEEI or sports radio, despite their ratings.

Every single time I turn them on during a T&R Commercial break I immediately regret it. This morning I flipped it on at 7:39 and was treated to 3 minutes of these two yahoos calling Obama's SJC pick Kagan "Chastity Bono". Seriously, that was the best that they could come up with? I didn't expect them to like the pick because it came from Obama, but that was it?

No surprise they fell so far in the 18-49 demo, a lot of us have said if people were given the choice that D&C would fail. It's nice to be right for a change.

You were 20 minutes too late for some exciting Jay-Z talk on EEI this morning. D&C don't like Jay-Z (surprise) and they don't like it how you can't learn the words. Callahan followed that up with "I know the words to every Jimmy Buffet song and Gordon Lightfoot song" and they were giving Iggy crap for not being able to quote Jay-Z word for word.

They meant by just listening to it. I agree with you; but D&C were arguing that you can't learn a Jay-Z song, because (essentially) "who knows what he's saying"

Didn't hear - but assuming they were discussing SNL with Betty White and Jay Z and since Jay Z perform Empire State of Mind - here is one lyric.

"Statue of Liberty, long live the world trade"

Why does D and C hate America?

Look, these guys are exactly what the thread title says they are, "angry white men."

They don't appeal to a mainstream demographic. I can't imagine anybody who would want to listen to this kind of hate every morning on their commute to work. And it's not just a "right-wing" point of view. Most of it is flat out hate.

It's a shame too, because Callahan is still a must read for me in the Herald (on the rare occasion he pens a column). He's a hell of a writer.

By hate you mean hate Democrats, yes. That's basically the appeal.

Of course, if you want sports talk, T&R or any of the other local shows aren't going to work either. It got me thinking that it might not be such a bad idea to look into what's possible on a smart phone in terms of streaming, for times when sports talk is what I want.

I wonder if such a thing exists anymore. Nowadays, it's all about the sensationalism - Tiger, Big Ben, LT. Sports talk has turned into Sports gossip. I guess that's the appeal to the average listener who they surmise is really not that sports intelligent.

Thoughts? This was also on the front page of Sports (back cover of the paper) in the Herald this morning. Not sure it makes much sense to run an article like this the night after Ortiz hits a difference-making home run, and is posting a 1.170 OPS in the month of May. If anything, it shows that Tito (and Theo to some degree) were correct in giving this guy time.

My thoughts are that Gerry Callahan is a douchebag.

Ortiz vs LHP this year: 677 OPS
Lowell vs LHP this year: 670 OPS

As you point out, CC: Ortiz, over the past month: .358/.397/.774/1.170 with 7 home runs.

Lowell is getting flack because he bitched about playing time.

Brutal radio this morning from Callahan. He's right about the small sample of this year, but I almost drove off the road when I heard Gerry f'n Callahan rebut an argument with the small sample size caveat. Based on L/R splits, no less. I feel like the world is a different place today. That said, his argument is stupid and annoying to hear voiced on the radio especially in light of Papi's rebound.

You know, I have to say, I have my problems with Dale Arnold, but I gained a lot of respect for him when he went after Callahan for his hateful comments after the Red Sox went on Queer Eye that one time, and the same kind of thing happened this morning re: Erin Andrews. Callahan was basically arguing that Andrews is a fraud (said that she was crying crocodile tears) based on the fact that she's now doing risque dances in skimpy clothes on TV. Someone called and said it's like saying "girls who dress slutty deserve to be raped", but a better analogy would be to say that if a porn-star gets raped, she shouldn't be as affected by it as a normal woman. Anyway, Dale's quote was something like, "You've said a lot of dumb things in your career, but that might be the dumbest." Bravo, Dale.

A very good interview today with David Stern...

Am I the only one who still occassionally turns to D&C the night after a big game, hoping to catch a good interview or some more substantial sports talk?

Now, I am often greeted with "Rush-light," but I'm glad I caught the Stern interview today. A very good give and take.

I actually still think that D&C are excellent interviewers. They both ask the tough questions and don't skirt around anything.

As long as John Dennis doesn't take 5 minute to ask a question- they're fine. They can ask tough/awkward questions, but I find most of their interviews to be pretty generic. Not exceptionally good or bad, IMO.

Hope you all tuned in this morning around 715-730 for some classic Manny bashing. Featuring such hits as:

*Doesn't tip club house attendants
*Pushes traveling secretaries. Old ones!
*Doesn't like the kids at his old high school

and your favorite and mine...

* Hates kids with cancer.

Goddamn, it has been nice not listening to them for the past three years.

98.5 should give these guys their own show

With the NBA action going on this week, the vacation timing is perfect. Not only do Fatty and Forehead not care for b-ball, but you instead get Bob Ryan and a game Neumie. Didn't catch who they spoke to from SI, but it was a good interview that increased my interest in tonight's Lebron show.

The sad part is, after golf, NBA basketball is probably the sport Dennis knows 2nd best.

Somewhere along the line, Neumie became unbearable. He can go minutes of talking without saying anything, and he's adopted that weird butch stearns-ish desire to turn everything into some profound philosohpical journey, even if the point he's making is self evident and could have been concluded 900 words ago.

It's not just them, but there's something annoying about always having to rehash last week's news for the first few days whenever the regulars come back from a vacation.

I checked them out for about 2 minutes this morning wondering if they would both be back or if someone else would be there. I heard them bemoaning soccer and how crappy a sport it is and turned it off. Not because I'm a huge soccer fan (I'm not) but I'm not going to listen to 30 minutes of "why soccer sucks" from two guys that know even less about the sport than I do.
