I guess Kirk said his contract with Entercom is "through 2021". By that point he will become completely irrelevant as he languishes in podcast/streaming purgatory.

Entercom won this battle big time. Although Kirk may have the last laugh when the ratings plummet. This story might not be completely over.

I popped it on when T&R went to commercial as well. I got through maybe 3 minutes of bickering and turned it off. Just awful radio.

Was he ever relevant? He seems to give himself a lot of credit for WEEI's success but I'm not sure it's deserved.

Interesting turn of events. Mind-blowing to consider a Callahan-hosted show to be more friendly, but that indicates the previous iteration's loathsomeness. Also mind-blowing to portray Mut as an idiot for however long - and he didn't dispel any of those notions - and then give him a seat to speak authoritatively as a sports host. There's no credibility left in the market for Mut as an authority on any subject and it was dumb of him to allow them to degrade his "brand" that way.

Take away politics - Callahan's passion - and this is doomed. Minihane poisoned the well on sports talk in the am by constantly denigrating it and it's going to take some time to get the same listeners to buy into it again. It's an even bigger ask when you don't clean out the entire show for new blood that can credibly and energetically talk sports. I wouldn't bet against a Minihane return after the younger audience #'s start trending downhill. It's the station's go to move - everybody else at the station has returned.

Yeah, you really can't dispute that the ratings surge (for better or worse) for the AM show -- particularly with younger audience -- started during his tenure as a permanent host of "Kirk and Callahan".

kind of funny that on the first day of m&c there's no......C

reminded me of him being a no show on the first tom brady returns after the scuffle monday interview this year. like these are big moments, and he's a no show.

i also have had the feeling that outside of politics, he's really not paying attention to anything else. like anything remotely sports related has to be carried but others while he just occasionally chimes in with something that doesn't really make sense.

Kirk has offered 5K to the charity of Shirley Leung's choice if she goes on Greater Boston to debate him. Callahan has offered to match the donation.

Jim Braude asked him to come on his show and said he was going to invite her. If he was serious about debating her he wouldn’t have put it out on Twitter so all his fans could get all fired up and start taunting her on Twitter

He's such a tough guy though. Reminds me of the time he challenged Fred to a SPORTZ DEBATE.

Is there some kind history between them? I'l be honest I don't think I'd even heard her name before but I also don't read the Globe. I'm not sure why anyone would waste their time debating Kirk Minihane - there's an infinitesimal chance he would have an honest debate and not devolve into just shouting at someone.

She called aloof their sponsors and asked if they were going to continue.

What is the topic of this "debate"? Yelling at someone you dislike seems to stretch the definition of debate.

The topic is "Why do some men think that criticism of their work by a woman is a threat to their sperm count"?

She authored a hit piece on Minihane in which she did not reach out to him before the story. He wants to challenge what she wrote. Jim Braude's show on WGBH would seem to be a pretty safe place to have a debate, but she has turtled.
It's cowardice.

Ya, not responding to every asshole who challenges you to a fight is cowardice.
So you're ok with people with public platforms putting out whatever they want without having to be questioned on it. That's scary, and in line with what the Red Sox/ Globe relationship is doing right now.

Because tough guy Kirk reached out to all the people he shat on every day.
She called him out and now she's ignoring him. A real man just can't tolerate such misbehavior.

People "question" other people's writing and public speaking all the time without some fake tough guy "debate."
Didn't they talk about her piece for days?
Minihane just wants to put her in her place. On behalf of eunuched men everywhere.

There’s grades and barriers here. Hot takes, ass holery and belligerence do not deserve response, especially when it won’t be an honest exchange. Why should someone calling him out on it afford him an opportunity he never would, especially when it’s almost certainly in bad faith?

I’m honestly not even sure if you’re serious. Are you seriously suggesting that KM deserves some kind of defense for not being questioned on what he spews? When has he ever done it? That’s quite literally laughable.

While I'm glad Kirk is off the air, theres really no question Leung was trying to get him fired. The calls to advertisers asking if they intended to still advertise after Fauria's horrific Yee racism, coupled with her article then which singled Kirk out, might as well been a threat to his job/livelihood.

I'm not shedding any tears for Kirk. He deserves everything coming to him. But let's not pretend Leung isn't being awful here.

I didn’t see the article and don’t know the back story, but I’d ask why on earth anyone would agree to have a ‘debate’ with KM? Does one not see where that ends up? How is she being awful exactly? And when does he answer for any attacks he makes on anyone else? Because they’re daily and much more direct.

As to her actions, so what? I called many of Michael savage's tv advertisers hoping to get him cancelled.

And why does that mean she should throw him a lifeline by agreeing to mudwrestle in his self-created toilet bowl. Let him swim by himself.

The “end”, I would guess, is the “I have an opinion on something but I don’t know the details at all”. It’s like when Mazz says Cora handles something wrong but admits he was watching NCIS instead of the game. You lose credibility,

I think that’s my biggest issue with Leung. She claims she doesn’t listen to the show but at the same time the show is racist and sexist. You can have the opinion but don’t you have to listen to form that opinion?

I dont think that's necessarily true. One can certainly form an opinion about things through the accounts of others.

Does one express that opinion while writing op-eds for the Boston Globe?

All she had to do was turn on a FM radio to confirm her opinion. She comes across as intellectually lazy.

I think op-ed writers have been forming opinions based on things other than first hand accounts throughout history. You are right, though. She could have confirmed her opinion by listening. But then the reaction is "well, that was one day (or one week or one month)." It would never be enough. Or she could read a well-chronicled history and form an opinion.

But regardless, the "debate" offer is the ranting of a weak man who feels threatened by a woman with a name he can't pronounce, and whose opinion (whatever one thinks of it) ultimately failed to put much of a dent in his career.
Somebody once said, "The best revenge is living well." Rather than celebrating his victory, Minihane wants to pick a fight with someone he already beat. It's a pathetic form of adulthood.

I've never listened to a nanosecond of any of these guys and know for certain that everything she wrote in that op-ed is correct. Is anyone wanting to debate the substance of what she said, or is it just a complaint about her mentioning she isn't a regular listener?

If you give these types of guys endless waves of benefit of the doubt, then yes there is a standard clear down the horizon someone calling them on it hasn't met yet. Some of these cases aren't tough to figure. I've never tuned into InfoWars and I'd feel comfortable writing an op-ed chastising any company that chose to advertise with them, and the reasons why would be obvious.

For those wondering, Shirley Leung's op-ed can be found here:

https://www.bostonglobe.com/business/2018/02/11/weei-hosts-peddle-cheap-and-vile-shock-time-force-change/iKR210JTjoU7tGSTq4PEWL/story.html

Interestingly, she only mentions Kirk Minihane once, and that was when she stated the simple fact that he had been previously suspended.

She admitted she doesn't regularly listen to WEEI. But that doesn't make her criticism of Fauria's vile act wrong, nor does it make her opinion of WEEI's management wrong.

There are people in this world worth defending. Kirk Minihane is not one of them, and his "livelihood" is not something I can get all that worked up about.

I think that this is the one that has Minihane all a twitter. Or he could be talking about this one, but I think it's the former because that one was published recently. And TBH, I don't think either column is that bad. You don't have to listen to the entirety of the Kirk and Callahan show to know that they're both complete assholes.

It should be. He’s trying to get a Podcast going. He should do anything he can to draw any sort of listeners. There’s nothing to lose, which is scary in Kirk land as he’s terrible when there is also something to lose.
