I’m out of market and listen to WEEI at times on the radio.com app.

Never once since Minihane left have I missed him. The amount of time he spent on inside WEEI stuff was profound. I know that Kirk generally got better ratings but I never lasted more than a few minutes when he got on on the those rants.

His interviews also were usually ruined by him talking over the answers he elicited.

I guess he did reasonably well in the ratings wars but that speaks more to the listeners than his talent, in my view.

Bottom line, I hope he makes good on his promise to go national. Anything but Boston, please.

I heard a little of it today. Callahan sounded genuinely confused and surprised (noticeably different from when he'd talk about Kirk other times). Then they started in on something Trump related and I changed it and didn't go back.

I listened to a little of Mut and Callahan. They seemed to be implying that Kirk is under some type of "restriction" where he can only criticize certain members of the Entercom umbrella, which apparently includes them -- which of course Gerry tales huge offense with. Kirk denies this on Twitter. Sounds like he and Kirk had a HUGE falling out.

So basically Callahan lied through his teeth when he said they'd be honest about what happened or was told not to say anything beyond vague statements. I'm surprised they are at such odds; usually miserable pricks like that get along famously.

I used to like Minhane, and recognize he has mental problems, but his Twitter recently is seriously worrisome. He’s become a guy who hated his company so much, they then fire him, and now he’s pissed off. If he wasn’t rich and a local celeb, I’d honestly be worried about workplace violence, that’s how out of control he is.

There is literally no show that talks analytics in Boston. But, I mean, I guess racist and general hate radio might be entertaining to some.
I love the Breakfast Club, Charlemagne has said some pretty borderline racist things, and has been a habitual line stepper for years, should I not listen to him?

I am not familiar with Charlemagne's show, just know the name. You can listen to whomever you please, but if people judge you when you say you like that program, along with all it's warts, it might be warranted.

He had an edge to him that was funny to me. I know SOSH would like their radio shows to talk more about analytics, and that type of stuff, I find that pretty boring.
I don't need analytics, I need them to actually talk about sports at least. Short of that, stop being bigoted ass holes that get their jollies off by only allowing idiots through on phone calls so they can scream at them. I tend to find that boring, but to each their own.

If you believe Minihane, Bradford stabbed him in the back.Brings it up all the time.Might be WWE fake stuff but he said some really bad things about his writing and the way he runs the website.

From what I can gather, anyone that decided to keep their job by deciding to do what management said over resigning or threatening to resign stabbed him in the back.

He's a classic victimized narcissist.

He's also independently wealthy from his inheritance, so it's easier to swim in your narcissim when you don't need the money from the job, whereas your spited former coworkers do.

Dale and Keefe having better ratings than Mut and Callahan is hilarious.
It really is.

Someone posted in here somewhat recently. But it's 2019 and WEEI - still - has effectively the same lineup they've had for 20 years.

Worse. They had other lineups in between and went back to what was basically the lineup from 20 years ago.

At this point couldn't EEI just go off the air from 6-10 and get the same ratings?

It would probably be more cost effective if they did the NESN approach and sold those hours to someone else's cheaply produced show. Mad Fisherman radio. Slap Chop.

Callahan's contract is up in August, he may be done unless he takes a pay cut.

The sad thing is , who's the new talent on the bench that Joe Zambrano hired?

Reimer? keeps his job because he works cheap but you actually need ratings. He works morning drive, nights, and weekends. The rating plummeting in all 3.He sucks
Wiggy? Novelty act
Marc James with a C? awful
Mut? Flash guy for life , should get a 9 to 5 job.
Dan Sileo? Fired
There's the Lolipop guy and some new nameless guy with hot takes. The more they try to be edgy the worse they are. You need talent and a natural charisma not just fake hot takes

I'm sure WEEI willl bring in people from outside of Boston which has a bad track record or they will continue to try to get people from other local stations or tv and get turned down.

Boggles my mind they went with Mut on the morning show. You mean that guy you mocked and tore down every time he was on the show for months isn't a ratings draw? Why I never.

I read about this somewhere else as well. I wonder if he ends up begging Kirkman to bring him into the Stool fold? He can't have many other options.

At this rate, I give EEI another year tops before the current format goes completely belly-up but for the Sox games.

Or he moves over to RKO and just embraces the political stuff he clearly enjoys.

Barstool doesn't seem like a punch in / punch out type of place. More effort required than I think JC is willing to give to his craft.

There is talk about Hillman sliding into the 6-10 there. Callahan won’t work for what they pay Mutnansky, so he’s probably gone.

Also, Rich Keene is a cipher. He’s Adam Jones’ sloppy seconds, a desperation move by Joe Zarbano to get younger.

I know it's your thing to hate on all of Boston sports radio because it's your site's gig, but do you give any approval of anyone on the air? I dislike 60% of them weekdays but you seem to hate everyone. What's your new programming choice for both stations?

Keefe is weak. He's the best that EEI has, but he still kinda sucks. Greg Hill's morning show would easily be the best thing they have going for them, if they are able to poach it from WAAF.

There isn’t enough talent in the Boston market for two radio stations because the dinosaurs - Ordway, Callahan. Shaughnessy, Buckley, etc., were able to hold on for too long and keep young talent from developing. Especially Ordway.

WEEI cast a wide net looking for replacements and netted Andy Hart. That tells you everything you need to know.

I would put Curran in morning or afternoon drive and tell him to be a complete townie asshole. It would draw ratings and you could program the rest of the station around it. But he won’t go. They asked.

The medium is dead/dying.

There’s still time for young talent to replace them and this is where 98.5 is at least trying. I’ve said it on this board for years that WEEI has wasted weekends on shit shows for years. 98.5 tries and develops some talent. WEEI weekends are filled with Mustard and Johnson and Butch Sterns. Awful.

I don’t think sports radio is dying. It’s awful mismanagement

If they move Hillman Republican Perverts Morning Show to 'EEI, I might actually listen to 'AAF in the morning again. Of course, then I'd be subjecting myself to even more spins of Poison, Mötley Crüe, and Skid Row from the only major current rock radio station in the area, so I'm not sure if it would be any better.

If the show moves, will Ernie Boch Jr. start being a regular in-studio guest to still cars and sponsor degrading body image-centered "competitions" for local strippers and escorts to earn the right to pretend to be sexually attracted to a couple schlubs in their 50s and a washed up hockey player who long ago lost his only claim to Boston sports immortality and is now just an unprofessional buffoon?

Thanks for this. I think I've heard approximately 5 mins of the Hillman show a long time ago and I changed the channel. I didn't remember them being Republicans, but you're telling me it would be Callahan redux....why would EEI do that? Gah. No good options in the morning.

Too many print guys doing radio. I can’t think of any print guys that have radio talent. I mean, when they put McAdam and Bradford and those guys on.... zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

And then on the other station you have Mazz and Felger... more awful.

It’s just brutal.
