Minihane already stirring it up and making people uncomfortable on Radio Row. Asks Charlotte Wilder about Susan Pease and the accusation that Kirk and Gerry were creeps at a bar in Houston two years ago.

Funny because she was on T&R this morning and was a great guest. Glad to see Kirk is basically doing the same nonsense and will probably only get worse. Tough guy radio!

Charlotte was awesome on T&R talking about the TB Times and Fisher...

But good call Kirk, alienate yourself further now that you don't have a daily platform with any listeners.

It's a bold strategy Cotton, let's see how it works out.

I listened to a little barstool radio today and yesterday with KM cohosting. It's kind of awkward and feels forced. Kind of feel bad for the guy now. But then I watch his periscope where he just walks around radio row and it's all "there's a fucking boring show, there's another, who's that useless fuck" etc etc.

He seems like he's on a Curt Schilling-esque trajectory.
He reminds me of the old Onion headline "Marilyn Manson going door to door trying to shock people"

He's just wandering around trying to generate some notice from somebody.

I hope Kirk has at least *some* friends in Atlanta that can check him. He seems lonely, agitated, semi-deluded, and is being encouraged by his dwindling but vocal army of supporters....I don't know that this ends well.

Honestly that video is really sad. I think the guy is awful, but he's pretty pathetic at this point and it's sad. I really don't care about his professional career but if his personal stuff is a real issue, I hope he's getting help, else he'll probably be dead in a year, which I hope does not happen.

Yeah. I thought Tom Curran showed some kindness and tried to get him to chill a bit. Can you imagine when Kirk was actually doing cocaine....?

Has anyone checked on Gerry Callahan after the Jessica Mendoza announcement? First a woman in the booth, now a woman in the FO. He can't be taking this well.

Want to spend ten minutes rolling your eyes, check out this puff piece by Boston Magazine on Minihane.

See, he's the real victim here. He's been acting like an asshole since junior high, but since no one ever called him on it, he thought that it was okay. And he really likes Howard Stern a lot (though he doesn't really understand what made Stern so great, being self-effacing, not punching down). And all those things he said? They're just jokes! Just LOLs!

Oh yeah, his new show starts this month. I'm sure it'll be awesome.

I forgot he even existed since EEI did the right thing and canned him. I can't wait to not listen to his new show just like I stopped listening to his old show a long time ago.

My favorite part was this:

Later, Minihane told me, “I think there’s a toxicity to the station that I definitely played a role in creating, but there’s an anger on morning radio especially. I mean, you’re just tired all the time. I don’t feel that way right now. When I get back on the air, I’ll be angry, but it’s going to be different.”
Played a role in creating? That's an understatement.

‘I’ll be angry, but it’s going to be different.’
Pretty much encapsulates why most talk radio is so terrible. What's with promising to be angry? It's a terrible model when anger is the go to assumption for high ratings. No wonder the industry is so miserable.

I was a bit surprised with Chad Finn's comments in the story. "One of the best he's ever heard on local radio"?
The author probably cut off the second half of the quote "One of the best he's ever heard on local radio at playing the victim".

I never like the guy before, but that puff piece made me dislike him even more. Instead of capitulating a little bit and backing off the transgender attacks he doubles down:

In lieu of a tête-à-tête, however, the hosts lashed out, dropping antagonizing barbs on the air and making veiled jokes about Murchison’s home burning down. They also accused Murchison of taking money out of the pockets of WEEI salespeople and from the Jimmy Fund, for which the station holds a yearly fundraiser. A local right-wing blog even published Murchison’s emails, which included his phone number, as well as pictures of him and his family members. Meanwhile, the hosts encouraged listeners to go to the blog’s website to buy T-shirts. Murchison’s phone was flooded with abuse, including death threats.

Minihane decided to take it a step further: To turn the tables, he began calling institutions Murchison was affiliated with, including his church, which Minihane threatened he’d talk about on the air. “I said, ‘Hey, listen, just like he has done, I will at some point read the list of people that he does business with—and then let you know that we’re not comfortable with people who are comfortable with people who take money away from the Jimmy Fund,” Minihane recalled.
What a fucking prick

Yeah, the shit he and his cronies did against Murchison was bullshit. Pure, petty bullshit by a guy who plays a tough guy on the radio but is a sniveling coward in real life.

As bad as that was, and that was pretty bad, was how happy Minihane was to brag that they didn't talk about the Red Sox once last year. I mean, I get that it's "guy radio" and not sports radio, but the Red Sox won 108 games, had the MVP of the league and cruised to the World Series, guy radio or not, that's a pretty big story to not cover. And oh yeah, they're on your radio station for nine months. I'm not sure that bragging about that is really the surest sign of intelligence.

Wait...did they literally not talk the Red Sox at all last season, or does he just mean they didn’t talk about them much at all?

From the article, emphasis mine (BTW, it was the Producer who bragged about this, not Minihane, so my bad on that):

Minihane, by extension, succeeded by essentially declaring war on traditional sports radio’s main focus: sports. “We went through a whole Red Sox season without mentioning the Red Sox,” says Ken Laird, one of the show’s two producers. “The way we would do sports is we would mock the way everybody else talked about sports,” adds Chris Curtis, the morning show’s other producer. “All the sports radio that’s on in Boston at some point sounds like an echo chamber.… Kirk and Gerry mocked the redundancy.” Minihane even created a regular alter ego, “Sporty R. McKenzie,” to roast what he saw as the overwhelming tepidness of the competition. As Minihane once put it on a Barstool Sports podcast, “I would much rather do this, talk about this shit, like the first time you friggin’ jerked off, than talk about—whatever—[former Bruins head coach] Claude Julien.”
Sporty R. McKenzie sounds absolutely hilarious. Just real great, cutting-edge stuff.

Especially coming from the guy who challenged Fred Toucher to a sports debate sans irony.

I, too, can be an asshole. But I've never been able to monetize it. Advantage Minihane.
I try to curb my asshole tendencies and have been largely (but, god knows, not completely) successful. Advantage me.

It may literally be the worst radio I've ever heard. If you're looking to stab your eyes out, here's apparently a whole hour on it. I thought they only did this as a bit for a break, but apparently googling now they did it as a full hour.

https://weei.radio.com/media/audio-channel/kc-sporty-r-mckenzie-talks-bowling-surfing-and-wnba-8-7-17

I don't get the whole thing. T&R was mocked for not being sports and being Howard Stern ripoffs and SPORTS DEBATE. Then Kirk decides to become a Howard Stern ripoff and then mock T&R for doing sports.

I love dry humor and mocking stuff, this whole thing is so unfunny it's sad. It's not even mocking things people talk about.

Tuned in this morning to hear Callahan ranting about what a “lowlife terrible human being” Manny is and screaming about how overpaid he was. I had to remind myself what year it is.

In Callahan's defense, he likely doesn't think there's any chance an adult male changes his behavior or works on bettering himself as a human being because it's not something he'd ever consider doing because he is what he is and that's all what he is.

The most boring phrase to hear out of anyone's mouth is, "This is who I am and I'm set in my ways."

There's also the small matter of even if he's right about Manny being a terrible human being, there's no way his contract was an overpay. I would think that "terrible human being, but probably worth what his employer is paying him" is a concept with which Callahan would be somewhat familiar.

GC loves to rail against what he considers the weak and lazy, the irony being how lazy he is. As a host his lack of research or knowledge of current events (non-political of course) is staggering. Four hours of "when do the Celtics play?" "What time is the Bruins game" "Who won that?" "What happened in that story?" to his cohosts who are expected to have the answers is just staggering. Mut and the other third are expected to be prepared, while he walks in and just asks basic questions. Yikes. As I've mentioned before it's incredible how everyone else on weei is considered expendable and this lazy ass is untouchable.

I occasionally listen to the show like I listened to David Lee Roth after he took over for Stern just waiting for the implosion. They are mining the Sports Hub by recycling Wiggy and now they had Scal on this morning. While T & R had a good chemistry with Scalabrine he seemed to kind of mail it in this morning. Loved that he referenced Dennis during the interview giving the perception he has no clue about who is on the show or who he was talking to. Callahan was suspiciously silent throughout the call in. Waiting for Faster Guy or Chili Guy to show up in the next weeks. I have to say, Keefe has been a nice surprise addition this morning but I’ve had enough for the day.

Just turned this on during a T&R break and on a day when the Bruins advance, the C's make an ass out of themselves I heard Callahan and Wiggy yelling, literally yelling, about Cora going to the WH. Click.

The day i take any political thought from Wiggy I'll check into a mental institution

Without even hearing any of that exchange, I know Callahan is probably among the many white folks that is absolutely furious that these mere ballplayers, many of whom would still be stuck in their home countries if they weren't great players, would dare refuse the President of the United States or skip the trip to the White House like it was a PTA meeting. Ortiz's comments must have had him practically apoplectic. Wiggy being the voice of reason probably would have made for entertaining, if pointless, radio with any other co-host.

Wow, either Minihane has delusional narcisims or this is a stunt. Or something like that. I don't know if this is an honest attempt at humor, but it is really sad and pathetic on every level. If he wasn't such a dick I would feel more empathy.

Did he really think Entercom was gonna let him go on their app and say the exact same shit that got him removed from the highest rated show in Boston just because it's technically not airing on WEEI? I know he's not nearly as smart as he thinks he is but I honestly didn't think he was flat out stupid.

Will be interesting to see his next move. He obviously thinks that he'll be highly sought after. Barstool makes sense but only in Portnoy lets him go remote from Mass. Kirk has already said that he doesn't want to relocate to NY. And I just can't see anyone wanting to work with him. To be berated and have to deal with an immature, unstable person every day doesn't sound enticing.

Callahan said on Twitter that they would be discussing Kirk this morning, and how they'll tell the truth. I'm sure Kirk will respond appropriately.
