I’m a little surprised no mention of John Dennis giving John Tomase the finger and leaving the studio while on the air this morning?

Like the WWE, it's a soap opera tailored towards men. What else is gonna draw attention the week between Christmas and NYE.

And if you missed it this morning you have Alex Reimer play clips of it to open the the afternoon show at 2 . Buckley must be thrilled to be in there for 4 hours.

Chad Finn has confirmed Kirk and Callahan topped Toucher and Rich for the third straight ratings book. Also WEEI's midday and afternoon shows are claiming first and second place finishes respectively, though it's unclear if their talking about the target demo (men 25-54) or if they're playing games with demographics and streaming. (The Sports Hub bills separately for its online stream; WEEI plays the same ads.) Either way, Kirk seems to have buoyed the morning show and the rest of the station. Just four and a half years ago, WEEI's Dennis and Callahan, Mutt and Merloni, and Salk and Holley finished fifth, seventh, and fifth respectively in the Spring 2013 book.

Meanwhile, Rich is trying to claim some sort of victory in regards to December:

It's a semantics game. T&R is No. 1 in December if its share (12.4) and its stream (.3) are included against the WEEI share that automatically includes the stream (12.6). In that case, it's a win by 0.1 of a point. But including the WVEI-Providence share in the Boston market -- and Nielsen halfheartedly signs off on this -- K&C jumps to 13.4. So T&R is leaving out that share when it says it won December. I try to include as much info as I can, but both stations like to ignore variables that work against them. I don't blame them.

Chad, since they like to both play the game, how important is anything outside of the 25-54 numbers? T&R seem to dominate anyone under 34 and K&C dominate the 50+ population.

Is there anything more pathetic in life than the replies to that tweet? Maybe it's just a perspective thing that I don't understand, but it's just weird to me that some people fanboy over these weei guys like they're Brady. It's talk radio.

Yes more pathetic is the WEEI guys attacking Chad every time he releases the numbers. He gives the objective numbers in and explains the market/streaming/Providence numbers and the EEI guys (the on air talent) attack Chad for being in the bag for the Sports Hub, whether they're behind or ahead. It's like clockwork and it's insane the levels of insecurity

You see the same thing if you look at the tweets from EEI regarding their ratings.
Some people get very wrapped up in their guys. I don't get it but there you go.

As for what Allstonite said yeah they have a real persecution complex, Chad was giving Fauria a pretty hard time about it earlier today.

Yup. A lot of people really do fanboy. A good friend of mine is a sensitive Jewish guy who lived in Boston as a kid then went to HS in Manhattan before coming back for college and somehow he thinks he's Sully from Southie. He listens to 'EEI all day, he thinks Callahan is the greatest sports media personality in the last 20 years and is offended by the very existence of the T&R show, which he insists is "pink hat radio." He's constantly texting and emailing about every little bullshit mini-scandal that's supposed to portend the demise of the Sports Hub, whether its the Felger remarks about Halladay or whatever else. He seems legitimately angry that there is a 98.5. I don't understand why he cares. We're better off with 2 viable stations to keep each other honest, though when it comes down to it, other than T&R on a good day, it's all horrible radio and I always have a better day when I find a good podcast instead.

I grew up on WEEI and would pretty much listen to it whenever I was in the car. I never listened to the morning show due to never being in my car before 10 am, but I would listen to midway, afternoon and whatever night show was on regularly. Over the last year or so I feel like the emphasis on hot takes and worked feuds between the shows has basically destroyed the station for me. Even the random fill-in guys like Reimer are just full of BS and are trying to get reactions out of people the entire time. It’s not entertaining or informative and it sucks that the ratings seem to reflect that this is the correct method use. Earlier this year I subscribed to Spotify premium and got a car with Bluetooth connectivity; if I want sports talk I can get it from the many podcasts available. The only time I ever listen now is if a game is on or there is big breaking news.

Do the average listeners not realize that the feuds and drama is 100% manufactured BS, or do they not care and enjoy EEI like they do a crappy reality TV show?

I think Dale & Holley has been very good since they added Keefe. They tend to stay out of the drama BS and for some reason Dale doesn't bother me like he does some people.

The midday show is a mess.

I don't think they care. It's just another form of reality entertainment.

I remember my dad being quite entertained when Mike Adams "locked himself in the studio" back in the day. I'm guessing people don't put much thought into whether it's legit or not.

I'm guessing a little bit of both, and I think you hit the nail on the head with the reality TV comparison. Reality TV audiences are 50% suckers who think it's real and 50% people who know it's manufactured but find it entertaining anyway. Sadly, that probably describes a good 75-80% of the American population these days.

Holley and Keefe are great, like a pair of reasonable, passionate sports fans who like each other, share their inside jokes with you, and have a sense of humor about themselves. Dale is like a lame uncle who tries to butt in on their conversation. He's not terrible, but he doesn't add much. But I have heard Holley and Keefe without Dale there, and they could use someone to help move things along at times. They need a better straight man.

Agreed. The best days are when Dale is off or has to leave early to go do hockey.

Dale's "OH SO YOU THINK YOU COULD DO IT BETTER" finger wagging schtick is grating to me.

Of course Kirk's pick a random host to wage 'war' against for a couple weeks act is super tired too.

During a T&R commercial I flipped over and a caller called in (they were talking about Wickersham) and started his call saying that Wickersham was on T&R and went to comment on an aspect of what Wickersham said. WEEI actually dumped the audio mentioning T&R. It sounded quite odd, but you could figure out what he said.

I know it's protocol to say "across the street" or not reference directly other shows, but dumping audio? That's pretty lame.

That's weird. Minihane mentions them by name ALL the time and went on a huge rant just last week, attacking Rich for his spin on the ratings and the content of their show. Maybe a new protocol came down from management?

I was thinking the same thing during the Felger/Halladay stuff. They were playing audio from Felger and Mazz for a few days in a row, but I guess maybe it's different when you're openly mocking or playing negative stuff. I think they were also playing it when Felger ranted about dad's taking paternity leave

Funny thing is coming out of the drop Kirk actually said T&R did a good job ("they didn't a decent job and I usually rip them") or something like that. It just was weird that WEEI felt the need to immediately drop it.

I don't think K&C called them to do it, but the producer (who seems like a complete dipshit) did it automatically. Talk about snowflakes....

I'm guessing that's a joke since as soon as he was done he looked like he was completely relaxed and didn't care about any of it?

Is it Glenn Ordway's turn in the WEEI As the World Turns this ratings cycle?

Pretty telling when the official EEI twitter account is pushing this out. That station is garbage.

It’s really a shame that the afternoon show is stuck there. The morning and mid-day are fucking horrendous.
