And this is what is wrong with the station. At 6-10 there's no room for callers and commentary. We get enough of that online. Last thing I wanted to hear this morning was D&C's opinion on anything. If T&R were on, I wouldn't have been happy at all either.

Sports Hub has the ability to plug into WBZ AM or TV to handle wall-to-wall coverage.  WEEI's in-cluster option is for simulcast in these situations is WRKO, which gutted their news department a few years ago, or the give the signal over to some kind of national network feed.  Probably a case of thinking they gain little taking their regular hosts off the air.

Not saying they're right by any means, but that's probably their line of thinking.

I agree it patting yourself on the back for having D&C on the air? Fuck that.

Callahan's twitter feed is amazing this morning.

He has too many problems to contemplate. Awful human being.

This morning, Dennis suggested that the FBI could have prevented the bombings if only they would have "cross-referenced some databases." Surely Tamerlan's name would have popped up.

I mean, it always works on Criminal Minds.

It is Obama's fault, in all seriousness.

If he spent less time trying to "save the lives of innocent Americans" with healthcare and gun reform and tracking down bin Laden, he could've ordered the FBI to stop all terrorists in America.

But, he keeps tearing this country apart with his divisive politics.

One guy, Dom, called up and suggested everyone in the terrorist's family be done away with (including the baby). When D&C said, "You mean killed?", Dom said, "Sure, yeah."

This is the calibre of callers on D&C and why all of the accolades for doing "such a good job" last week are complete bullshit.

All of the accolades of doing such a good job came from themselves or people at the station. I typically don't mind listening to them at times like this, but I was so turned off with the way 80% of that station acted the last week that I refuse to put it on.

Well you guys gave up too early today.  A woman called while they had on the Watertown Chief of Police (who was very good and relatively forthcoming with info) who was complaining that people on the internet were saying bad things about her brother, a Brookline officer, who was the guy who brought milk to the family that needed it due to the lockdown.  Anyway, long story short, John Dennis of all people told her that she has to understand that there are millions of people on the internet, and only a few nutjobs who need to be ignored.  Undoubtedly the right advice, but truly amazing coming from a guy who gets in twitter battles 2x a week

Caught 15 minutes of these 3 ballwashing Shank for being a hardline journalist questioning Ortiz re: PEDs. Apparently a 2 week hot streak is ironclad proof he's a cheater. I'm thinking Ortiz hitting .400 because of PEDs is far less likely than it being just SSS, but apparently I'm just a Papi fanboy.

At 630 they were crapping all over the hockey TV play-by-play guy from last night, Strader; Click. at 655 they were still crapping, speculating about how they hoped he would "get in trouble" during his two days off in Boston. I assume they're still at it, 3 hours later. (FWIW-I didn;t think Strader sucked. he's not Emrick, but who is.)

At around 9:30 they were wondering aloud about what "Thorny's" wife looked like and whether it was as "epic" a "marry-up" as some dude named Duffner (probably a golfer...fucking John Dennis and his golf-centric world).

If you want to claim that dude wins this year's Ric Ocasek Memorial Award For Marrying Up, then OK.

But there's about fifty old, rich, ugly dudes ahead of this fuckin guy on the all-time list.

I made the mistake of listening to 5 minutes of D&C this morning. As I expected, Callahan was talking about the Oklahoma tornadoes.  I put
up with his ranting about 16 (or 40) minutes being enough time to get out of the way of a tornado (which aren't exactly the most predictable
things in nature), because I don't know if everyone did what they were supposed to do.  But then Callahan went off on a tangent that would make
Mikey Adams seem like a Nobel Prize winner--if Raytheon is bidding on the Space Fence radar system to track orbital space junk, then why can't
we do something about tornadoes, as in move or dissipate them.

I had a company vehicle this morning and was confined to the radio this morning. I tuned in and heard the same, including a caller talking about our manipulation of the weather in Vietnam. I can't tell if Callahan was trying to be funny or genuinely believes that the government can manipulate the weather. I suppose that, in of itself, is the punchline.

this was so ridiculous. He actually seemed like he really thought people had the ability and could come up with the answers to stop them.  He suggested "waves of heats, lasers, drop a BAG on it from above".

Then he was criticizing the evacuation effort...how come the 3rd graders were left, while the "older" kids got out...as if they picked and chose who got to leave.

THEN there was this gem, the other guy in the booth said that we can predict hurricanes with regularity, earthquakes, maybe not so much but tsunamis, yes. Gerry's response...call me a xenophobe, but I'm more worried about disasters in the US, not Bangladesh.

Other Guy: Well, there will eventually be a big quake in California...

Gerry: Nah, Cali is blue, save me the red states only.

To add to all of the above, when I got out of the car he was ranting against the people who would not want us to re-route tornadoes even if we could because manipulating the weather is "unnatural".  So not only is Callahan pissed off that we cannot manipulate the weather to prevent tornadoes, he's already pissed at imaginary people who would be against his not-yet-invented tornado preventer.

Clearly Minihane is no better than or no more willing than Dennis to reel Callahan in when he's off on his tangents.  I had high hopes that a Dennis-less show would be listenable this morning...I lasted about five minutes when it was clear that the tornado was going to be the focal point of the day.  Definitely a tragic event, but these guys are out of their element.  Frankly anyone who hasn't spent time in the midwest and tornado alley is ill-advised to talk about or criticize what to do and how to react when a tornado touches down.

Isn't there a Bruins game they could be previewing to death?

Lets reserve judgement on Minihane for a bit.  Once Dennis is shown the door if Minihane becomes the #2 he should get some more authority, and then lets see what he does with KKKallahan.  If he chimes in now he is going to have both of them trying to shut him down.

Also, on the Bruins game, dont give them any ideas   :buddy:   They clearly dont understand that they are in a ratings battle that they are losing badly.  Let them keep hanging themselves with stuff like this.

Minihane's in the #1 seat today though.  It's just him and Callahan.  Maybe his normal role as 3rd wheel is preventing him from asserting himself today, but he's in no different a spot than when Dale or someone else fills in.  Other fill-ins have shown to be good foils for Callahan and an ability to keep him on track.  Just disappointing to not hear Minihane do that this morning.  Granted, I turned it off early in the show so I didn't give him much time to show me anything, but based on the posts here this morning, I wasn't wrong to turn it off.

Not the biggest Minihane fan here but give the guy some time.  Dale and Felger (when with WEEI) had a lot more experience and at least had Callahan's respect and knew how to handle him.  Minihane has been in this role full time for what a month or two and always in the 3rd seat and usually being mocked?

That's not to say he won't become another Meter, but the jury is still out on him as far as I'm concerned, although I was disappointed that it wasn't even a little bit better without Dennis there.

Oh, my aching irony-meter.
So now we know that the only circumstance in which Callahan would support Garcia is the one where Garcia acts the ignoramus (that's the charitable view.)

The fact that black people still let racism bother them is one of the great injustices of our age, in Callahan's view.

I left my TV on NESN last night, turned it on this AM, and the batteries died in my clicker before I could change it away, so I saw about a minute of D&C.  I was going "la la la la la la" really loud so I wouldn't hear them, but noticed that the backdrop behind them says that WEEI is on 93.7FM and 850AM.  Now I know that technically 850AM *is* WEEI-AM, but D&C aren't on that channel (Mike & Mike are), so why the hell do they still have that info on the backdrop?

I'm 99.9% sure I saw Dennis in the Lowe's in Framingham yesterday.  He was by himself, clearly pissed off the he couldn't find what he was looking for, and nobody was falling over themselves to help him.  I had an urge to punch him in the face.

Dennis is such an arrogant prick and KKKallahan and his rants are unlistenable. The only redeeming element of this show is an occasionally good interview...amazing these clowns are still around...

Minihane can't seem to grasp the concept of team chemistry on a baseball team. He wants a quantifiable, "How many wins is that worth?" answer.

It almost sounds staged, like a producer told him to take a stand so D&C can rail on him about it. Several callers with bad examples didn't help, either.

I didn't hear the segment, but I think chemistry especially in baseball is very overrated. So, I'm not sure what's so unappealing about Minihane's position and I'd guess most SoSH posters would agree with him.

I only heard a brief segment this morning.  The conversation sounded phony from both ends because neither were trying to make real arguments.  Callahan kept repeating "they're winning now and they weren't winning last year, so chemistry works" and Minihane was countering with "I can't believe it without tangible proof that it works". The whole discussion was tired talk radio cliches...terrible, desperate radio.

On T&R this morning, they said that Howard Stern was ripping on D&C pretty badly this morning. I wasn't listening to the original broadcast but the topic of the day is, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" (which, let just say, is probably reason one why they finished in fifth place in the spring ratings.) Dennis said, "The Rolling Stones" and Callahan said, "Howard Stern".

Anyone know the background of the bit and the fallout?

The part I got a kick out of is Howard continuing to refer to them like they're younger than he is.  They're both older, which just makes Stern's rant funnier.

D & C played a "safe" version of the Stern rant this morning and seemed to be enjoying it. Of course, they contined to call Stern a "Sell-out" who hangs with the beautiful people in the Hamptons and took the satelite gig for (a boatload of) money instead of artistic freedom.

At first there was some confusion at among them if Stern was referring to Callahan or Minihane as Skeletor. It was pretty obvious (to me) that is was he of the giant forehead.
