Ok, now you may not like D&C...personally I think Dennis is a jerk and Gerry is only slightly better. But listening to the Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon and hearing the stories, I realize that these guys along with everyone else at the station are big supporters in the fight against cancer and truly believe in the cause, especially Gerry.

No matter what you think of D&C or their show, I think it's safe to say that we all believe that the fight against cancer is something where we can all be united.

Unless your name is Manny Ramirez. Then you root for kids to get cancer.

This is starting to bug the shit out of me. This morning I turned on NESN to watch some of the telethon and the first thing I hear is Gerry making a snide remark about Manny not liking kids with cancer. Give it a break, the guy is gone, find a new schtick.

He was doing it all during yesterday's show, as well. It's actually kind of sad. These kids are probably thrilled that they hung out with the likes of Pedroia and Lowell, and then you have this angry 50-year-old horse voiced red-headed fascist shoving a mic in their faces, and croaking "No Mannny Ramirez? Manny wasn't there? Just say it. Say 'Manny wasn't there'. SAY IT! SAY IT GODDAMMIT!!! MANNY WASN'T THERE!!! HOW DOES THAT MAKE YOU FEEL? FEEL LIKE CRYING? YES, CRY FOR ME!! CRY!!" Pretty weak, IMO.

I didn't hear it myself, but my brother just sent me a text that said Gerry just asked some sick girl with cancer if Manny ever came to visit her. Anyone else hear it?

If true, that really says more about Callahan's character than anything he could ever say about Ramirez.

For Gerry and the rest of WEEI, this really is a regular working day for them, so they're doing a lot of Manny-bashing, which is what they do every day they're not raising funds to help fight cancer. EEI is still running its full slate of commercials so the money keeps rolling into their coffers, the hosts are still being paid, and the Jimmy Fund fundraiser is written into their contracts so they are contractually obligated to participate in the event. That doesn't make what they're doing for the kids any less admirable, but it does make their continued self-congratulations ring a bit hollow. If they want to work at 'EEI they have to do this event.

As for Gerry, if he's bashing Manny while talking to the kids he's supposedly there to help I think that's about as clear a look into his own character as we're going to get. The man is beyond description at this point. He's taken the D&C show to the cancer ward and using sick kids to continue his shtik. It's pretty repulsive, honestly. He can't let go of the smarm for even one day.

You'd think a man who just had his own bout with cancer would realize that this telethon is all about the kids and not about the hosts of the station.

Guys, it's Manny Ramirez. He's a bigger threat to the entire world than cancer--the man has dreadlocks. DREADLOCKS! The liberal media has blinded you all.

I hope cancer does not choose you.
I'm not going to defend the comment, but I'll note that Gerry says some really awful shit on a daily basis.

There are times, like his thoughts on Heath Ledger for example, when he'll just smash somebody who has had something tragic happen to them. I've really noticed it over the last year when I wondered if his throat cancer might cause him to ease up. The answer was a big NO.

Hilarious. Now throw in slamming a 63-year old man to the floor because said 63-year old couldn't obtain last minute tickets in Houston, backhanding his teammate in the dugout for all to see (same teammate who is likely the Sox MVP this year), and deciding to take three straight strikes against Mariano Rivera. And, that's just this year. But then again, boy can he hit. That makes it all better.

Fist of all, Jack McCormick isn't 63. He's 104. And Manny didn't "slam him to the floor". He picked McCormick up by his old-man neck tendons, slammed him to the floor, and urinated on him. He than stole McCromick's Rascal and stripped it for parts. Let's at least get our facts straight.

I have said before that the man has some serious anger managment to deal with, but I also believe in cutting peope some slack. Wishing cancer on someone is beyond hatred.

I'm not so sure after the "KKK" remark.
What the hell is that supposed to mean?

KKKallahan has been getting exponentially worse over the years with his douchebag act. Where the "act" ends, and his "real" viewpoints begin has been an ongoing debate.

I reached my tipping point with him after he spent one show ripping public libraries and librarians. Librarians The Irony of someone who made their name in the print media criticizing people who make a living archiving print media was lost on him. Is there a more innocuous use of public funds?

He sucks, and, by extension, people who defend him suck.

I remember the librarian call, and that was pretty over the top. It felt contrived to a point.

But to wish the man dies........that's a little over the top for ripping a librarian. No?

Yup, I heard this. The girl's eleven, just completed treatment for leukemia, and was wearing a Varitek shirt. They asked if Tek was her favorite player, and she explained that he's the first Sox player she met visiting the clinic. They asked which other players she'd met, and she said she couldn't remember all of them (didn't get the impression she was a huge Sox fan or anything, maybewasn't sure who many of the visiting players were). Callahan says, you never met Manny, did you? Girl gives a verbal shrug (doesn't really remember), and I think it was Callahan who goaded her to answer with something like, you can say it, Manny didn't visit. Dennis snickered.

I mean, it's annoying enough on a regular morning, but do they really need to kill Manny during the freakin' Jimmy Fund telethon?

Really? There's no where else that you can take this enlightened view to? ESPN.com and the RemyReport give login names and posting privileges to just about anyone. You should check them out, Millhouse.

Sorry Hoss, Manny's the greatest hitter of all-time and the Sox shouldn't have traded him. How's that? Jeezus, no wonder the rest of the country despises Red Sox Nation.

Fuckwit, no one is saying that Manny is above the law.

What we are saying is that Callahan has no reason to keep bringing him up to the kids when they are trying to raise money for cancer. Are you really that obtuse? No one is defending Manny.

edit: Glad I got to call you fuckwit before URI kicks you out.

I'm not from the Boston area, so I'm only exposed to Callahan's insanity on rare occasions. And I have not ever, not once, heard anything that would not justify my wishing upon him ass cancer.

Can I call Kilroy a fuckwit too, or would I just be being unoriginal by now?

EDIT AGAIN: How did I just confuse Mike Adams for Gerry Callahan? I need a nap.

The more I listen the more I tend to believe that his behavior is not an act. The library comments were just silly, but using an 11 year-old cancer patient as a prop to call out Ramirez is beyond repugnant. He's deranged.

Fine, shitbag. Dimwits on this site have claimed Callahan says Manny hates kids with cancer. The truth of the matter is that he said Manny doesn't have time for kids with cancer like he didn't have time for the troops at Walter Reed and not buying baseball equipment for the kids at his own high school. Glad I got to call you a shitbag before URI kicks me out - like I give a crap. And Blacken, you've always been unoriginal.

Wow.

I think you should have writ, "... like I give a shit."

Sounds tougher.

See ya later.

deep in the hole
Kilroy was here.
I was waiting for the joke for the past two days -- just waiting and wondering how it would get worked in. And then it got cashed in and it was good. Nicely played. WWII humor rocks.

On topic, I caught some of Mr. Dennis on the fundraiser last night during the rain-delay last night. I live outside of the WEEI broadcast area so I really don't know much about these guys. However, I was struck by his bragging about playing on Donald Trump's ego to get him to write the big check. It seemed very condescending and contrary to what he should have been doing. Of course you play to the Donald's ego, but you don't show him up after he writes the check. Or you are very likely not to get a check next year. It just seemed a moment when Dennis valued strutting around more than the entire purpose of the event.

People who don't give a crap usually don't have to post those feelings. Obviously, you did give a crap. Too bad you can't reply to this post to tell me you don't give a crap.

OK... with that being said. Back on topic people, and stop with the personal shit.

Like most of you I listen to the soccer moms in the morning pretty much religiously, and the two sports-related moments that had me literally screaming at the radio were the 24/7 Clemens coverage that came out in April during the Celtics run. The other was them confidently predicting that the Celtics couldn't go all the way against so-called stronger opponents after going seven against the Hawks and the Cavs. Usually, this is Meter's schtick being the contrarian, but every friggin' day it's "How can they go up against LeBron" as if he's the freakin' savior or after the beat the Hawks, "There's no way they can pull out a W in Auburn Hills if they can't win in Cleveland or Atlanta."

During the opening they played a bit of his calls for BC. I am not a BC fan and I never listen to the Eagles at all--take away your feelings about him on the radio--is he always this bad? The clip I heard was pathetic.

It is his schtick. He is playing to 18-24 demographic. And yes, he is that bad. Everything is overstated and screamed about. After a while it gets old.

Sometimes it is like listening to Trupiano all over again. WAY BACK.........WAY BACK.......Infield fly rule...
