Former Cy Young winner Dallas Keuchel and the Atlanta Braves are in agreement on a deal, a source with knowledge of the situation tells ESPN.

It's nice to see the freest agents go to the National League.

Like I said here last week, I expected NY to be outbid. They reportedly offered the pro-rated qualifying offer ($11-12M) and wouldn’t go higher.

Boras absolutely butchered this, he should waive his commission at the very least. They turned down the qualifying offer, then they started off the winter asking for 6 or 7 years, $150-$200M. Not so much.

Edit: Heyman says SD was offering 4 years in March.

He did this to Stephen Drew in 2013 as well, and Drew's career never fully recovered (though he still managed to make $21m the rest of his career, so don't shed any tears for him).

Isn’t it often said around here that Boras works for the player, and not the other way around?

I would have bet the farm on the Yankees. Good thing I don’t own a farm.

Now I’m betting the car that they pick up Strohman.

I own a car.

I'm not sure, Stroman did grow up in Long Island and he would love to be on the Yankees, but his peripherals indicate a reversion and I think it will be hard to find a prospect match that both teams are OK with within the same division.

Nothing Cashman does is too predictable at this point (hello DJ LeMahieu) but if I had to bet, I think if he trades for a SP, it will likely not be any of the guys under constant discussion, and instead it will be a younger guy under team control for longer. I have no idea who that will actually be, Kyle Freeland was 4th in the NL Cy Young voting last year but has been horrendous this year (and is now in AAA), but my guess is if it happens, we'll be surprised at the name (so not Bumgarner or Stroman or Bauer, etc).

More likely I think he will just wait for Severino to return in a month or so, and Jordan Montgomery not too far behind that. Chance Adams' blossoming into a maybe genuine option (0.85 ERA in his last 5 starts in AAA) also helps their depth while they wait for Severino to come back.

Sure, but players hire him because they believe he knows how to best maximize their value, and most players are going to rightfully value his opinion on negotiation matters higher than their own. Of course, the decision ultimately lies with the player, but that doesn't mean Boras didn't fail him here.

Gotta say I'm wildly baffled that a guy with his resume didn't get a deal in this offseason and is "stuck" with a 1/$13 million deal. Baseball is weird.
