So Joe thinks Jeremy Lauzon is the kind of guy that wins hockey games while watching the stanley cup playoffs where two teams will play for the cup with exactly zero players like him in their lineups. Bogo maybe? But he's objectively better than Lauzon, and has a cap hit $1.1m less. The Avs have played Jack Johnson in 7 games because of injuries and he definitely sucks too, but he's ALSO on league minimum.

That is a brutally bad contract. Lauzon is a bad player.

Yes Joe, those nerds and their graphs using such advanced metrics like goal differential are dumb for not wanting a player who has been on the ice for 5 goals for and 16 goals against at even strength in his playoff career. Lauzon is really moving the needle!

Dinosaurs like Joe can’t seem to wrap their heads around that “big, strong, & nasty” are great secondary attributes for defensemen that are first and foremost skilled hockey players. When a defenseman is not skilled enough, it doesn’t matter how tough they are.

I don't know if Haggerty actually believes that, or if he's just pandering to his galaxy brain base of readers / clickers. I imagine the Venn diagram between his audience and MyPillow's must be pretty close to a full overlap.

I feel like the flyers are in teh right place for Torts. They're young and need discipline and he's the guy to provide it. If the B's decide to sell and tank, I think he'd be a good person to lead them after, but it won't happen.

If anyone can save Carter Hart's career, its "pack it in" Torts. They've hung that poor kid out to dry for too long and Joonas Korpisalo put up passable numbers behind Tort's program. and he sucks. The roster there is deeply flawed though so I don't expect much in terms of results.

I’ve never seen Friedman as a guy who is about generating clicks
He’s not but this kind of chatter happens every year. “The cap is flat! Lots of big names available! It’s going to be wild!” And then it really isn’t.

(I think player movement is something the NHL lags behind leagues

I don't understand the NHL fascination with Paul Maurice. He's been an NHL head coach for 23 full seasons. He's made the playoffs all of 8 times (excluding the play in round WPG lost in the bubble), and advanced out of the first round 3 times with 1 SC appearance. There's a very large sample size of him being a below average coach, yet whenever he's available, teams trip over themselves to hire him.

And yes, I think I would talk to Brunette. That Florida offense was no joke. If the Bruins want a more offensive system, they should consider him.

Lol You can hire anyone in the world to take that world class team to the next level. there is no sure bet on who that might be because the guys that can do it for sure already have jobs. There are a few guys who we know probably cant, because we have a long track record to fall back on. Paul Maurice is the king of the latter group. Florida's biggest problem is they can't stop the other team from scoring. How was Winnipeg under Maurice? How was Carolina? A hilariously bad hire. The roster is good enough to cover up most of it but yikers.

I don't think Brunette gets a look because his system is way too run and gun for this roster. They were dreadful at 5v5 for a "contender" status team and had a pretty iffy PK as well.
