I will be surprised if Jack Eichel isn’t traded there. They have the prospects, the cap space, and are in the other conference.

Is anyone else's dream having Torts get a Cherry-on-HNIC spot on one of the 2 new networks to just rant at intermission a couple times a week?

Barkov won the Selke. Bergeron finished 2nd.

11 out of the 100 PHWA voters did not include Bergeron in their Top 5.
Barkov, a player I love for the record, actually had a below average defensive impact this seasonat +2% above average. Meanwhile stone was -6% below average and Bergeron -11%. Hockey writers are the worst and it ruins these awards.
Can’t wait until hedman wins the Norris.

https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/bruins/selke-trophy-2021-where-bruins-patrice-bergeron-finished-voting

"But if you add those votes up, you only get 89 -- which means 11 voters left Bergeron off their Selke ballots completely.

To be fair, even Barkov didn't receive a vote on eight ballots despite winning the award. But it's hard to imagine how any of the 100 voters don't view Bergeron as one of the game's top five defensive forwards."

Barkov got 62 first place to Bergys 15.

Some of these writers clearly have no clue. And surely there is still the old school 'ignore the data' voting.

I get more pissed about this award every year.
But the voters always vote based upon data and performance!

Naturally, he won the Cy Young Award easily. However, he came in a very close second in the voting for the Most Valuable Player, with 239 points compared to winner Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez’s 252 points. Martinez had received more first place votes, but as it turned out, he was left off of the ballot of two voters COMPLETELY, New York’s George King and Minneapolis’ LaVelle Neal!

He was a huge goalie coach in Chicago. Pretty sure my brother used to go to his camps. Was crazy to read when it first came out.

Nugent-Hopkins must really like Edmonton. 8 years, $41 million, NMC.

He probably could've gotten a higher AAV on a shorter deal elsewhere, but RNH really isn't all that good a player. Good on special teams, pretty mediocre as a 5v5 player with his numbers this year being juiced by playing with McDavid or Draisaitl on nearly 80% of his 5v5 minutes...and he still only posted a 7-8-15 line on 5v5. I could definitely see that deal going all Loui in Vancouver as RNH gets into his 30s.

Sabres lifted the interim tag and has named Don Granato head coach. This was the obvious choice as the kids performed way better under him than Krueger, although it would have been hard to play worse. But they improved under his leadership - without Eichel, Hall, or Staal and the team looked like they cared again. Appears as if he will be leading another phase of their seemingly never ending rebuild as they prepare to trade Eichel, Reinhart, and Risto. This was one of the steps that needed to happen before the trade and assume the only other hurdle is the expansion draft.

Lastest buzz has Eichel linked to the Rangers, Ducks, Blue Jackets, Wild, Kings, & Golden Knights, while Reinhart is linked to the Canucks & Blue Jackets. Although I have to believe any team linked to Eichel would also have Reinhart as a backup plan.

so begins the "trade good players for not much because noone has cap space and the expansion draft!"

This probably means that Ekholm is protected. I actually think they keep 5 d? Josi, Willis, Ekholm, Fabbro and Carrier. Then I'd guess Forsberg, Kunin and Sissons? That leaves Duchene and Johansen exposed. Anyone want Matt Duchene until 2026?

Arvidsson is probably a good barometer for DeBrusk's value. DeBrusk is a similar but less valuable asset. I think they'd be lucky to get a 2nd for him.

If that's the case I'd rather hold onto him. Maybe I'm just too high on DeBrusk but I see more than... whatever crap he was this season and unless they get a pretty terrific deal back for him I'd rather hold on.

They won't get much for Jake. It's not just a bad year, he starting to slip at the end of 19/20 heading into the shutdown. In his last 87 games, including playoffs, he's got 14 goals and 13 assists. He was a healthy scratch down the stretch of the regular season and in the playoffs. The coach called him out publicly multiple times. Doesn't bode well for receiving a terrific return.

Hard to see this relationship lasting much longer, but it's a big time sell low. They won't get much more than a mid round pick and maybe a lottery ticket prospect.

Nate Schmidt available says David Pagnotta. He's a good fit and should be cheap
I would absolutely love a move for Schmidt, assuming they can get it done for (relatively) cheap given his remaining term. If they can send Moore the other way (in addition to futures), it's a cherry on top.

Surely they will take our 11th defenseman who's signed for 45 more years.

(I kid I kid I'd be delighted to offload Moore in any deal, but wouldn't he be a negative value?)

Oh, yeah not at all like Moore would be the 'centerpiece' - assuming it'd take a second rounder and a prospect or two to make it work

VAN paid a 3rd for him last year. I can’t imagine him costing more than that if the Bruins take the whole contract.

Decided to take a look at the roster with Schmidt acquired, assuming Moore stays / Vancouver doesn't retain anything - I also assume they don't qualify Kase and try to bring him back cheaper, if at all.

MBP
Hall ($7m) - Krejci ($4.5m base) - Smith
DeBrusk - Studnicka - Coyle
Ritchie ($2m) - Lazar - Kuhlman
Wagner / Frederic

Grzelcyk - McAvoy
Schmidt - Carlo ($3.7m)
Lauzon - Clifton
Zboril / Vaakanainen

Swayman
JAG vet ($1.5m)
Rask ($4m LTIRable)

Cap hit: $71.3m including Rask - ~$9.1m in space due to $0.96m overages and an $81.5m cap.

It's tough - on the one hand, I think they have obviously have the room to add him without shedding Moore, and can also likely bring back Reilly - but I also have a sneaking suspicion they'll be on an internal cap due to the COVID revenue hit (would love to be wrong).

ya, Schmidt was traded for a third last year and had a bad year, he’s a year older and still has 4x5.9 left. He’s not someone a developing team would trade for given his age and cost and most contenders have minimal cap space. There won’t be a lot of suitors, I don’t think. Van could just keep him but why? His value will only get lower and moving him gets rid of a declining player and cap liability. I think they should move him for whatever they can.

Jfresh shows how rough a year Nate had but they played him on his offside against a nails qoc. I think he looks like the last year of Vegas guy playing the left side next to Carlo or Chuck. Maybe Moore and Ritchie gets it done? I could see benning doing that.

I assume Vancouver wouldn't want to take any money back. They are sitting on $16 million in cap space but need to sign both Petterson and Hughes. They've got a little leverage with Hughes since he's not eligible for an offer sheet, but that'll still be a pretty big contract. McAvoy got $4.9 million under similar circumstances. Petterson has to be asking in the $9-$10 million range. I think between them that'll take up the available cap space. They'll need to clear out Schmidt/something else to make the rest of their moves.

Benning gonna Benning though.

Brutal. 24 years old. Fireworks go crazy, he runs and falls and hits his head on concrete and dies. Truly awful.

Fireworks are terrible things and should only be used by professionals.(and even that is a debatable idea) They result in so many injuries. And deaths.

Yup. Far too many senseless injuries and deaths. Some people just don’t appreciate how dangerous they are.

From the results of the autopsy, it sounds like the thing that killed him was the firework hitting him in the chest. He obviously fell and hit his head afterwards, and they assumed at first that's what killed him. Just awful luck for the poor guy.
