It feels like everything has gone right for the Rangers so far, particularly their rotation despite deGrom predictably mostly being on the IL so far. Curious to see if that keeps lasting.

The Padres' offense is underperforming horribly. Xander DP then four swinging Ks by Tatis, Soto, Machado, Cronenworth for the last 6 outs in a 2-1 loss tonight to the Cubs. This is after only getting 1 run off of 8 ERA Taillon.

Xander's OPS is down to a pedestrian .738 - his power was back for the first two weeks of the season then has disappeared again.

All nine hitters in the TEX lineup right now have an OPS over .800.

Triston McKenzie makes his season debut with 5 shutout innings, 1 hit, 1 bb, 10 K. In usual Cleveland style, he'll get a no-decision after leaving the scoreless game.

I think that if we're going to snark on the Mets and Padres for spending a gazillion dollars to be "meh" and "kinda bad," respectively, then it's only fair to note that the Rangers have also spent a gazillion dollars and are currently awesome. They've passed the Mariners for "Team Most Likely To Overtake the Astros in the AL West," anyway. For that matter, it's probably fair to note that the Mariners probably should've opened the wallet a little more for some more substantial upgrades than Teoscar Hernandez and Kolten Wong.

I usually hate these in game interviews, but the James Outman one was fantastic. What a charismatic guy.

The Land of Fist Pumps
Eddie Rosario with a 2 out Grand Slam in the Top of the 9th to give the Braves the lead 8-5 over the Serpentines. Castro almost wiggles out of a 2nd and 3rd no out jam. Braves take a fun series 2-1.

They have barely even gotten anything from DeGrom and they are crushing people, best run differential in MLB by 30 over TB. If they keep it up all year, that will make the AL East that much more cutthroat, three playoff teams and not four (TEX/HOU/Central).

The spending thing is interesting, I still think it's a really dangerous route to go with a large percentage of almost instant duds, but that TEX team is put together very well, big money signings but also their own kids. The no state tax helps too...

The A’s continue to give innings (31 and counting, over 18 appearances) to Shintaro Fujinami- who has a remarkable 12.19 ERA (but just a 6.03 FIP!). He already has -2.1 bWAR.

This A's-Pirates game is mesmerizing. Oakland has walked 10. Pittsburgh has only walked 4, but they've hit 3 batters

What a meltdown by Caleb Ferguson in the 9th for the Dodgers. Three walks, single and HBP to blow the save.

Edit. And McLain comes in and blows the game. Reds win. Those pesky Reds.

Wacha gave up 2 hits in 6 innings. He really looked like he was about to pumpkin the end of last year, really dont' blame the Red Sox on passing on him, but if Wacha keeps this up that insane 3 year team option will actually be picked up.

He had a really bad April, too. I thought he was cooked, and he very well might be, but this is an impressive stretch.

I will say that I don't think Wacha or Eovaldi would be pitching as well as they have been in front of the Red Sox' defense.

Jason Adam was trying to blow another lead in the top of the 9th when the Rays turned a sick double play to get out of bases loaded jam and then Randy walked it off with a HR to lead off bottom 9th. The Rays are just magic at the Trop this year.

Corbin Carroll is an incredible talent. People who are "baseball fans" should be paying attention to this Arizona team. What a fun group of players.

Reds come from behind to beat the Dodgers again.
The Reds are also a ton of fun to watch. I am glad that I am at a point in my life that I can still root for the Sox, but really appreciate the enormous amount of talent that has entered the league over the last couple years. This is the best shape the game has ever been in, in my opinion.

Jon Gray going for a CG loss allowing 1 run if he can get through the top of the 9th.

9 innings with 4 hits, 0 BB, 12 K and 1 HR and Gray gets hung with the L.

Kid’s swing looks just like Griffey Jr. That rapid, violent, but smooth and controlled uppercut from a lefty. Griffey seemed a little shorter on the whole swing (eyeball test). But damn that is a marvelous swing and contact
I love the look the 3B ump gives it on the replay; it's as though he he was stifling either a laugh or a muffled "holy crap" under his breath
