After breaking out of his slump, Mike Trout has gone 10-22 with 5 HR for an OPS of 1.766 in his last 7 games, including 2 HR last night against the Mariners. The man is a machine.

Injuries seem to be catching up to the Rays. 7-7 in June.
They're running an infirmary right now, but also the youth (very youth) movement they leaned into for this year hasn't exactly panned out. They got rid of Meadows with the plan of at least one of J Lowe, Brujan, Walls breaking out. They didn't want Meadows around blocking the young'uns and they didn't want to use him as a fourth outfielder. Instead, the young guys have all fallen pretty flat so far and you've got Brett Phillips getting a ton of playing time.

Over 19 minutes. That’s how long the top of the 7th took as the Phillies batted in DC today. What happened? Nothing. Three walks followed by three K’s. Could have been worse. The three walks only took 12 pitches.

Phils have won 13 of 15.

And, shockingly, shut out 1-0. Brett Phillips getting important at bats for some mystifying reason.
Did they just completely give up on Josh Lowe already? I know he looked bad in his few weeks up, but he seems to have gotten whatever was ailing him figured out. Up over .300, showing that power speed combo again, and up until his last two games the K rate seemed to have stabilized. I love Brett Phillips the person, but I have to think Lowe or Aranda is a better player at this point than him, right?

Speaking as someone with some dynasty league stake in him, how long do you think they need Josh Lowe to show improvement in AAA before they give him another shot? His K/BB rates have been pretty damn good since the start of June, and I thought he was supposed to be pretty good defensively too. Why the hell is Brett Phillips getting sent out there every day over him.

Edit: Looks like great minds were thinking alike at the same time @LogansDad

Trout with his 4th HR of the series early in the 4th game of an otherwise low scoring series in SEA, he seems promising.

Daniel Bard is having a great season. Got himself into some trouble in the 9th but struck out Machado and got pig face Voit to ground out. 14/16 saves, 1.98 ERA, 0.99 WHIP.

Betts going on DL with hurt rib in collision with Bellinger on Wednesday
Want to say F Cody but CF has right of way there
Unfortunate (as a Mookie lover)

3/11 of the other people on that list had great careers and/or got paid, I think in baseball terms that's a pretty high hit rate.

If TB continues to scuffle before the ASB, do they become sellers? Next year is the big one for them with Glasnow returning.

@VORP Speed is the TB expert, but they are basically literally always in sell mode, they traded Austin Meadows before the season and he had been in the top 20 in the MVP voting in the previous two full-length seasons (2019/2021). Who were you thinking about specifically?

Diaz is arb eligible next season but IDK how valuable he really is as a trade piece. Kluber is always an option to throw off, maybe someone would give them something for Kiermaier? I doubt they will exercise his $13 mil team option.

They tried to dump Kiermaier all winter with no takers and now he’s having hip troubles. He’s gone after the season. The mistake they made was not just eating his contract and dumping him over the winter so they could have held onto Meadows. Yandy is solid, cheap and plays very good 1B and 3B so no reason to move him. They’re in the wildcard mix while basically sending their AAA team out there so they’re not going to punt the season unless they totally collapse over the next 6 weeks. Baz just got back, the pitching is looking good, if they can get the position players healthy and squeak into the playoffs, they can make some noise.

Cortes might throw a perfect game against the Rays infirmary lineup tonight.
My brother and his son were in PNC Park on Sunday for a walkoff win by the Pirates. They were in Truist Park for a walkoff win by the Braves last night.

Tonight they are in Tropicana Field for the game. It might be a better bet to put money on a Rays walkoff win.

Isaac Paredes hits 3 HRs against the Yankees, knocking in 4 of the Rays 5 runs in a 5-4 Rays win.

Nolan Gorman hits 2 HRs for the Cardinals. He seems to be the real deal. So far he has a .280/.350/.516 OPS through 29 games

I had no idea Cruz was 6'7". As one article notes, it's like Giannis plays baseball.

3 innings into his 2022 debut, Oneil Cruz has registered:

  • The hardest throw by an infielder in this year (96.7 mph)
    • The hardest hit ball of the year by a Pirate (112.9)
    • The 3 fastest sprint speeds of the year by a Pirate (31.5, 30.7, 30.3)

Wait he is 6'7"? That has got to be the tallest conventional shortstop in history. That's crazy.

Yeah, his physical attributes are insane. However, just watching the clips of him playing SS makes my knees ache.

He'll be great to watch but I wonder how long he can stay there.

Ohtani 24 up 24 down after two leadoff singles in the 1st (1 walk in 6th, DP right after), 13 K. Not going to go out for the 9th (108 pitches), but probably could have.
