In between those six batters reaching and the two loud outs, SF ludicrously had Tyler Austin try to sacrifice bunt. He has I believe one succcessful sacrifice bunt in his entire professional career (minors too), so shockingly he bunted into a force play and gave Jansen an out.

Unfortunately for Yelich, Bellinger has been better this year. Unfortunately for Bellinger, Trout still exists.

Yelich leads the pack in OPS and is on pace for 30+ steals too. Strictly offense, he’s gonzo.

Bellinger is amazingly leading all of MLB in DRS, any position, with 19 already. Matt Chapman led all of MLB in 2018 with 29 for the season. Bellinger is having such a good season so far that Trout might actually be having his best season ever and they are still pretty close currently.

Seeing the ovation Pujols got last night, and then his HR today in St. Louis was really cool. I thought he should’ve gotten released a year or two ago but I’m kinda glad he didn’t now.

Wilkin Castillo has a two game hitting streak, not notable except there were ten years between games (6/20/2009 and today). The last player to go ten years between hits was Minnie Minoso.

Fernando Tatis Jr. just tagged up from third and scored on a pop up to 2nd base, probably about 150 feet from home plate.

As a side note, he was initially called out, but review overturned it. Meanwhile the moron homer Pirates announcers first say that there's no clear convincing evidence that he was safe, despite it being pretty obvious by multiple camera angles. Then they complain that the catcher screwed it up by receiving the throw in front of home plate and the rule not having catchers block the plate is the big problem. They conveniently ignore the fact that the throw was up the first base line (and tailing further away) and if the catcher was standing closer to the plate, he might not have been able to reach it or would have had to stretch two ways to catch the ball and make the tag.

So two things to be learned on this play:

1. Tatis is a crazy fast runner and maybe the most exciting rookie in the game today.
2. Pirates announcers are complete idiots and should be put on mute permanently.

Three ... of all the possible choices, you're watching the Pirates-Padres

The Phillies are in free fall, swept at home by the Marlins this week and have lost 7 in a row. They play 4 against the Mets starting tomorrow.

What are the Mets doing? Diaz hasn't pitched in a couple days and Callaway leaves Lugo out there for 42 pitches and he gives up the lead. When is he going to get fired? Oh that's right never because GM Jeff Wilpon loves him.

Well, with the Mets heading to Philly for four, maybe they can have a managerial death match -- if one team takes the series, the losing manager gets fired. All things considered, I think Callaway at least has a chance to learn from his mistakes. I don't think Kapler believes he ever makes mistakes.

It's Trevor Bauer, so dunno how seriously to take it, but in the new book 'The MVP Machine', Bauer is really harsh about Callaway not allowing him to pitch how he wanted.

Also, Callaway and Jason Vargas just had an altercation with a Newsday reporter in the clubhouse.

"Mickey Callaway and Jason Vargas just cursed out, and in Vargas case, challenged a reporter to a fight in the clubhouse."

"Mickey did not like a remark made by a reporter as he walked by in the clubhouse. "Don't be a smartass, mother*******." Later says: "get the **** put of here. We don't need that bull****""

"Vargas then got into a shouting match with the reporter, over a staredown, and said at one point: "Ill knock you the f*** out, bro." He charged such reporter and had to held back by Gomez and Syndergaard."

"Callaway told the public relations staff to “Get this motherf—-er” out of the clubhouse and when Healey didn’t leave, Vargas got into a stare down with him. Words were exchanged and Vargas had to be restrained from him."

Evidently the reason is they have grudgingly decided to allow Diaz to go four outs if absolutely necessary (this was just 3 until a few weeks ago) but not five outs, which is what this would have required. Dumb, yes.

Yeah, sorry... wasn't really trying to say Callaway can be a good manager. Just that if I had to pick one of the two to redeem himself down the line, I wouldn't pick the ignorant and conniving narcissist that is Gabe Kapler. I wouldn't have hired Callaway as manager in the first place since, outside of Farrell's one World Series championship, I can't remember the last guy who built his reputation as a pitching guru who proved to be a good manager. But I also wouldn't have hired Gabe Kapler to fill any role in an organization at all.

Yeah I know. Diaz has thrown 12 pitches total in 8 days according to Matt Ehalt. He asked Callaway if that fact could’ve swayed his thinking and Callaway gave a sarcastic answer. Something along the lines of “Why because you think so?”

Callaway and Jason Vargas also got into it with Tim Healey of Newsday. Tense times.

this is getting stupid from the Dodgers. I knew who Alex Verdugo was, who the hell were Matt Beaty and another Will Smith?

California. Duh.
Until yesterday there had never been a team hitting walkoff homers in back-to-back games by rookies in MLB history. And a day later the Dodgers do it again.

Pirates win after scoring 3 in the bottom of the 9th to send it to extras, and then in the 11th score 4 runs when the Padres scored 3.

Got to be rare for a road team putting a crooked number up in extras and still lose. But scoring 3?

Dunno about your question exactly, but it was only the third time ever that a team came back from down 3 both in the 9th and in extra innings, and the other two games were both in 1930.

My God, the Mets are more of a clusterf*ck than we thought:

The Post reported that Van Wagenen was watching the June 1 game on TV when he relayed an order to remove deGrom in the seventh inning after Callaway and a trainer visited deGrom twice on the mound. Callaway said Monday that deGrom's removal was a mutual decision.
Here's the summary - Mets GM Brodie Van Conflict-of-interest has been sending orders to the bench for in-game moves, like when to remove a pitcher (or not.) And he appears to be extra sensitive when the subject is one of his former clients, a man who is still paying him a commission.

It won’t happen unless there’s a bad domestic or racial incident, or if they miss payroll, but I don’t know how the Wilpons aren’t just forced to sell the team at this point. What a total joke of a franchise in the biggest market in the country.

If there is a clear case of fraud or racial incidents (like the Clippers) I don't see MLB forcing the Wilpons to sell just because they are inept.

And from what I understand they invested heavily into Madoff and lost big time.

Snell gets rocked again. 7 runs in 3.1 innings in MIN. He’s broken.

Glasnow got shut down and pushed back another 6 weeks, return this season now in doubt.

Castillo to IL with shoulder impingement after totally sucking for several weeks.

Au revoir, Les Raies. Or Les Rayons. Or Les Ex-Rays. This season was fun while it lasted.

Oof, Brad Hand with a serious meltdown against the Royals, in to close with a 6-3 lead.

double
single
infield single
single (run scores)
grand slam by Dozier, 8-6 KC, still no one out. Hand threw 13 pitches and is out now. Sorry, FFA.

Giants tried to ruin a great MadBum start by the new LF not seeing a routine fly ball, allowing it to drop for a run scoring double.
Luckily, no more damage was done.

The Astros are down 7-0 in the 5th and if the score holds, will be 12-12 in June, 2-9 in their last 11. The Rangers have suddenly made the AL West competitive and could be 4.5 back if they hold on in Detroit.

Somebody on the Marlins hit a 27 hopper up the middle that hit the 2nd base bag on bounced into left field. Seen plenty hit first and third, even the pitching rubber, but never second base.

"In today's Rays-Twins game, @RaysBaseball tied the game in the top of the 2nd inning and then neither team scored until the top of the 18th. That's the most innings between runs in an AL game since September 1, 1906 (Philadelphia A's, 4-1 over Boston Americans in 24 innings)."
