Jay Bruce in uniform for PHI tonight, and Andrew McCutchen got hurt on the first AB of the game, had to be helped off with a knee issue after getting in a rundown. So Bruce is in the game quickly...

Actually the second at bat. Cutch was on first. Segura popped up to 2nd but seemed to slip getting out of the box. 2nd baseman let the ball drop, threw Segura out by plenty and then Cutch hurt the knee just before getting tagged out for the DP. Looks like they are calling it a sprain now and Andrew is asking for prayers.

Astros @ Mariners.

Houston has runners at first and third, one out. Slow ground ball to short; shortstop throws home to get the runner ... only the catcher is headed to first base to back up a potential double play.

Really on the catcher, because it would have been an impossible DP to turn and the shortstop did the right thing trying to cut off the run

Because of course they are. Kimbrel too, I'm sure.

I am really starting to hate this season.
Back in the real world, NY is already at $229M, so if they give Keuchel the pro-rated $18M he is supposedly asking for, they will be close enough to the $246M level that Cashman will have little flexibility going into the July deadline, unless he can send Ellsbury somewhere with accompanying talent for someone to swallow his deal and get it off NY's books.

TL/DR: IMO someone will outbid NY for Keuchel, and there is zero chance they will sign Kimbrel with the four guys they already have plus Betances likely back pretty soon.

You should start an "Unusual plays" thread

Through 9 combined innings tonight, Miami and Baltimore are winning their road games 24-2 over Milwaukee and Texas respectively.

Miami scored 11 in the 5th in that game. Brewers' park is a hitter's park, but that's insane for the Marlins.

Mets give up 6 in the 10 to SF, Callaway has to be close to gone. This is the first home game after a 2-5 road trip.

“The @Marlins entered today as the lowest-scoring team in MLB, but tonight they scored 11 runs in the 5th.

That's the biggest inning by a team that entered the day last in the majors in runs per game in June or later since the Boston Bees had an 11-run first inning on 8/25/1936.”

Rangers were down 7 going into the 9th and have scored 6 already.

Is scoring up a bunch this year?

Orioles barely hold on, Givens crosses up Severino again and gets a swinging strike 3 that goes to the backstop, Severino barely throws out Andrus at 1st to end the game to back up his 3 HR performance (Severino, that is).

So, Ryu is really good at pitching and Franmil Reyes is really good at hitting home runs.

I love stuff like this.
Thank Henry Chadwick for Baseball having such detailed statistical records available back ad infinitum.

The Indians, forced to use a bullpen game with Carlos Carrasco going on the IL today, fell behind the Twins 5-1 early, but after chipping away at the lead and sitting through a 1:43 rain delay, they've taken an 8-7 lead in the bottom of the 7th on home runs by Jordan Luplow and Roberto Perez. When Luplow gets ahold of one it goes a long way, but his home run may have been even more surprising than Perez's since it came off a right-hander.

Francisco Lindor adds his 3rd home run of the series and Brad Hand is automatic. Trevor Bauer vs. Jose Berrios Thursday night to see if the Twins can avoid their first 3-game losing streak of the season. I was planning to use a free ticket to go see the Indians AA team, but I'm not sure I want to miss that matchup.

Tyler White in to pitch for the Astros for the second time this season. Gave up a bomb to right, got a line out, and K'ed Shed Long.

watching the cards/cubs game now, I thought Ozuna was gonna be a way better player for the Cards than he has been. IDK what kind of deal he is gonna get after this year but I thought he was gonna be a big star after his last year with the Marlins.

I am shocked by how good Cole Hamels' career numbers are. Is he a HoF guy with 2 more years like last year?

Roberto Perez -- yes, the Tribe catcher who hit .168 with 2 home runs last year -- just missed homering in his 4th straight game, hitting a double about 18'11" off the 19 ft. wall in left-center.

Lucas Giolito's last 9 games: 7-0, 59 IP, 32 H, 13 BB, 71 K, 1.22 ERA. Opponents slashing .161/.222/.211.

...and in his next at-bat he launches one deep into the SRO area to left. He's so hot they're using him as the DH today, because they can't afford to take his bat out of the lineup. I have to admit, I thought the Yan Gomes trade was a terrible salary dump, but he's struggled with Washington, while Jefry Rodriguez was at least a valuable innings eater for a month in Cleveland's rotation, and Daniel Johnson (marginal outfield prospect in the deal) is off to a hot start in AAA.

Bumgarner after the game....

LOL at "kids". Bumgarner born 8/1/1989. Muncy born 8/25/1990.
ehh, MLB had a big campaign with the tagline "let the kids play". I think his act is tired, but im pretty sure he was referencing that campaign

Bumgarner might be the biggest tool to have ever played sports. He is insufferable.

In The Quivering Forest
Last night was the worst example of the umps making it about themselves I have ever seen. Musgrove got tossed in the first inning after grazing Josh Donaldson's shirt and Donaldson started barking at him and started walking towards the mound. Musgrove did nothing wrong at all but the umps tossed him (and Donaldson, who should have been), putting the Pirates at a real disadvantage for the rest of the game.

Cody Bellinger had his fun for about 2.5 months, but as of today Mike Trout once again leads Major League Baseball in Fangraphs WAR and the season can officially begin.

Fun game on ESPN, Brewers and Astros tied at 3 in the 12th. Verlander had a career high 15 Ks in this one.

Into the 14th now, very impressive relief pitching on both sides.
