Tim Kurkjian is in the middle of an entertaining set of tweets about the connection between players and their gloves. Some samples:

After earthquake in the 1989 World Series, knocking out power, A’s 2B Mike Gallego went back into the pitch-black clubhouse, despite warnings from security, to retrieve his glove from his locker. “I couldn’t leave my glove behind,” he said. “That is my livelihood.” #bestofalltim

Utility man Jeff Manto used to travel with 13 gloves/mitts for all the positions he played. “The equipment man hates me,” he said. #bestofalltim

Infielder Darwin Barney would systematically break in five identical gloves, each was in line to someday become his gamer. He once made an error, threw his gamer in a trash can, and elevated his No. 2 glove to No. 1. “I am very particular about my gloves,” he said. #bestofalltim

Former infielder Nick Punto would keep his trusty old glove lubricated with all sorts of products: suntan lotion, Aqua Net hairspray, Glade air freshener. They kept his glove stiff, which was crucial. “This is my baby,” he said. “I have to take care of it.” #bestofalltim

Many MLB players won’t let anyone touch their game glove so not to mess with its shape. “Touch mine,” Phillips said, “and we will fight.” I once foolishly asked SS Mark Belanger if I could try on his glove. “I would kill you before I would let you do that,” he said. #bestofalltim

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. got recalled from AAA by TOR on May 24, and since then he has maybe been the best hitter in baseball. 12 HRs in 121 ABs and a 1.121 OPS coming into tonight when he homered twice more off Danny Duffy who had this to say after the game:

"That Gurriel kid, he's on it. He's going to be a star. He stays on everything. He almost had three homers tonight. The first inning, I definitely got lucky."

Rockies have roughed up two of the best pitchers in baseball - Buehler and Ryu - on back to back nights. Of course, their pitching hasn’t fared much better.

Coors has been more ridiculous than ever before so far this year, the Rockies have a .922 team OPS at home (best in baseball) and .660 on the road (worst in baseball).

Hijinx in Baltimore... the Orioles realized prior to the game that they would be justified to have the ground crew roll out the tarp and delay the start. Instead of informing anyone else, they announced Andrew Cashner was being scratched as the starter and that reliever Shawn Armstrong would make his first major league start. Armstrong warmed up. The Indians starter Zach Plesac warmed up. Then they brought out the tarp for an hour-long delay... and as they got the field ready to play, Cashner warmed up and was reannounced as the starter.

Final of 13-0 again, the first team ever to record back to back shutouts of at least 13 runs. Didn't see that coming...
