Pitching like this to put a runner on with a late 4-run lead. I feel Cash's frustration a little bit.

This team is so fucking boring to watch when they’re bad.

Just hacking away at garbage.

DOB speaking the truth; there are “expected numbers” and there are “real numbers”. Expected numbers can make you feel good, but the real numbers are the ones that count.

"Little League home run" is denigrating to Little Leaguers. That's about the only way they can get four bags until they are big and strong enough to hit it over the fence. Even the ITPHR is rare because there are no quirky (Fenway like) angles in the walls to send the ball off on an unexpected angle. Perfect arc on all parts of the outfield fences.

We're in the grip of No Priority Cora.
Perhaps, but it's also the roster. Where is the guy in the bottom 5 of the order with any sort of consistency? Wong has been a better defender than that play today showed, but look at the up the middle defense -- Keekay with his errors and a guy we nicknamed Clank. Injuries have hurt, but the lack of depth is being exposed right now

We’re really blaming the manager for this team being shit defensively? I’m not sure what any manager could do with this roster. It’s amazing that they’re a game over .500 honestly.

I've said this in the past. You've got to get the attention of certain players in circumstances like this, examples need to be made. I've no idea what happens behind closed doors, but clearly players aren't held accountable for horrendous play. We saw it last year with defense and especially with some incredibly shitty base running.

In fairness to Alex, getting this collection of players to be at .500 is not automatic.

I will decline this conversation if you don't mind.

I'd note there's a fundamental tension to thinking that Alex Cora is genuinely "concerned about fundamentals" but is unable to assemble a coaching staff that can impact the ML team. In fact the numbers are drifting the wrong way.

from PeteAbe twitter:

Alex Cora: “You’ve got to throw the ball to the right base. You’ve got to back up. You cannot become a spectator. You have places to go in every play in baseball.”

I don't know whether he's speaking about the clusterhump, but that's pretty harsh coming from the manager

Serious question as a non-baseball player: How often are outfielders told to throw the ball to the cutoff man (unless they are Roberto Clemente)? What is the punishment if any for air-mailing a throw home with a runner on 1st?

This team was not expected to contend coming into this season. They got hot for a week or two, but this is probably who they are, especially with the Sale out...again. They will likely be lucky to finish outside of the basement this season, something that might be a real long shot given how the rest of the East has looked so far.

This roster is garbage, and the more I watch, the more I think they'll lose 82 games.
I thought they were a 65 win roster on paper at the beginning of the year. That’s why I can’t get on the manager too badly. He’s actually got them playing above their heads IMO.

Stuck around to watch the Post Game interviews.

Alex Cora about as lackadaisical as his team. "We've got to do better." Ya think Alex? You fucking think? Basic fundamentals.

To his credit, Verdugo took responsibility for the beginning of the play. Said he didn't pick it up coming into the outfield and he just air mailed it.
