We may want to revisit this post if we don't hear from Bergs for a while.
The beer's gone and the tools don't show up until Thursday. I'm calling myself safe for the moment.

That announcer for the Cubs is horrible. Horrible. Had to listen to her all weekend, since I decided not to drop half a grand to go down to Wrigleyville.
Beth Mowins? She used to do college sports on ESPN for what felt like an eternity. I was very confused when I threw the Cubs broadcast on and heard her.

Spent it on power tools and beer instead.

She certainly has that "sound like you're taking a shit every 3rd syllable" ESPN-coached style a la Levy, Kolber, Riddick, etc etc.. Awful. When she goes away from that and relies on a decent natural voice, she can be decent, but it never lasts.

As long as you're not on Ether.

No promises.

The White Sox have a double TOOTBLAN.

Unreal. It's not like they were running on the pitch or even running on contact. Engel was waiting near (not on) second base, then took off a split second before the ball was caught. It wasn't even that difficult a catch; Buxton just ran under it and caught it a couple steps from the fence.

Not too surprising that that is the first recorded 8-5 triple play in MLB history.

A couple of days ago, but Vinnie Pasquatino with his first major league hit and HR--even though he thought he was tagged out at second.

Cleveland with its 6th loss in 7 games (12 out of 16), including a 4-game sweep at the hands of a Detroit team that could easily be a 100-game loser. In those 16 games, they've topped 4 runs twice, with a high of 7 in a 10-inning game.

Fortunately, I picked a good week to be busy and not watch or listen to a single one of the last 7 games… otherwise it would have been a bad week to stop sniffing glue.

Time to see what they can get for Amed Rosario and a couple others.

Shohei Ohtani throws 7 innings, gives up one unearned run, and strikes out 10. Dropped his season ERA to 2.44.

I did not know Sandy Alcantara was having the type of season he is having until I checked the league wide ERA boards to see where Ohtani fell on them with his 2.44. Leads the league in innings pitched and ERA(1.82). He has an ERA+ of 228.

Kimbrel comes in to save a 5-2 game. Strikes out the first two hitters.

Then single, double, wild pitch, walk. Dave Roberts finally had enough and yanked him.

DET fans have to be wondering what their season would look like now if Riley Greene was healthy all year. They are now 11-7 in games he’s started.

Orioles with 3 in the bottom of the 9th to beat Raisel Iglesias and the Angels, they should move ahead of the White Sox tonight.

What's the exact reasoning there? The thing he did with his glove? That's just the "go through the signs again" motion. Even if there's technically a balk there, the rule needs to be looked at. That sucks.

Gallen just threw four straight strikes that were called balls to walk in a run. Where are the robot umps?

Simulated starting his motion then failed to deliver.

I think the umpire mechanic for calling a balk is one of the coolest thing in sports. I think the purpose is that if the pitcher delivers the pitch there is action and it can turn into a complete clusterfuck, so when the HPU calls it he is supposed to point and yell THAT’S A BALK to shut the play down.

But the effect is like he’s totally shaming the pitcher. I love balks.

And that walk off balk came in the bottom of the 10th, after a play in the top of the 10th where Mejia looked to be safe at home and the catcher was obstructing the plate. Shouldn’t have even been close, though, as I don’t think I’ve ever seen a worse lead off third. Mejia was basically standing on the bag when the ball was hit. Awful baserunning. If you have the contact play on, then take a lead and a secondary lead, otherwise there are no outs, just stay put.

I've seen way more blatant motions not get called as a balk. If that's a balk then half the pitchers in the major leagues commit balks every game.
