I’m bummed. Our rivals are wearing 90s throwback jerseys and we are just trotting out the same thing we’ve been wearing for a decade.

I think everyone here needs to relax. This year is entertaining but I am not expecting a championship. Chaim is doing the prudent thing by restocking the farm and building long term. Once Sale comes back and Schwarber is at first, I definitely think we have a shot at the playoffs. Deep breathes everyone and enjoy this season for what it is!
I admit to being guity to some pretty shitty posting cause I'm so disgusted by Bloom's inaction but I just think a lot of us have really really enjoyed this surprise season. It's been a genuine delight. And the idea of watching them get lapped by not just the Rays, which was always possible all season, but by the Yankees who we truly overmatched in the first half and now seem in prime position to pass us in a matter of weeks, is really really disheartening. I wasn't alive for 1978 but 2011 really really sucked. And I just think a lot of us see that as a real possibility after the on and off field happenings the last 2 days

When you don’t get hits with the bases loaded, is like when you get inside the 20 yard line and you don’t score, that’s brutal for a team.

This is a mindset I don't like. If you have a team with one of the best records in the game, you don't punt this year. You add pieces you need to win it. They can do it without mortgaging the future. It's not like we have a ton of can't miss prospects waiting in the wings that are untouchable. Mayer and Casas. Everyone else is on the table.

The problem with this mindset is the very real chance that jDM and Renfroe are cooked, among others. Chaim could have (correctly) evaluated that there were too many holes to fill.

Really? Please enlighten me, as it's been in regular rotation with my friend group since Revenge Of The Nerds came out. Is it no longer accepted as a general description when someone "spazzes out"?
I think in the US it’s sorta taken for granted but in a lot of places it’s not appreciated. I hope I don’t sound like a stickler I just know some friends who don’t like it because it’s kind of punching down at folks with disabilities

this game sucked. I really hope we turn this shit around tomorrow. I’m seriously dreading the ESPN booth.

There is not a very real chance that JDM and Renfroe are cooked, among others. Slumping, sure. Streaky, yes. Cooked? Come on.

Yes but he should have been used by the Sox like Ted Cox.
As in puff up his rep, and then trade him for a Dennis Eckersley? it worked then, didn''t it. But we don't have Ted Williams around anymore to say how great the prospect his and how wonderful his swing is.

Then come out and say you don’t think the team is good enough, don’t hide behind the guise of “well we didn’t like the prices and think we added some good pieces and have injured guys coming back which is just as good”

Season has been far better than anyone imagined. The magic has run out probably and they crash to earth, but their still a fun team.
After the first 3 games a friend wrote to me that it will be a very long season for me. I believed him and it has turned out to be a very entertaining season. I’m a baseball fan and unfortunately nowadays I can’t watch as many games as I would like, but it has been a great season and you can’t win the World Series every year.

I don't care if this sounds like hindsight, but as the hours turned to minutes at the deadline, I totally would've shopped JD and see if any other team bit, being in first be damned (and any reliever short of Barnes, actually anything not long term with the going rate people were paying). He's just not that good anymore. And I've always been a little underwhelmed by him. So many at bats, he's absolutely helpless on pitches away and doubly so on off speed.

That's where my anger is aimed. And it's stupid. No first place team sells. But it's also not that often you're in first and know that you can't add, both because the price is prohibitive and because that it probably won't make a difference because you've been playing so far over your head, that the regression back to form is going to be like the comedown from a months long drug binge.

The Mejia ABs were the killers for me. In the 4th, had him 1-2 with 2 outs and Eovaldi throws him a middle-middle FB which he crushes. In the 8th, he's down 0-2 with 2 outs and Davis throws him a hanging curveball that he lines up the middle. Add in the Arrauz errors and that's 5 runs that could have easily been prevented with better execution. Just ugly stuff.

We've been in first place most of the season and we're hoping we have a shot at making the playoffs.
It’s about championships or nothing in my book. This team does need another top tier bullpen arm, f

Perhaps the other teams looked at the rest of our “touchable” prospects and passed which may be why it is so important to keep an eye on retooling so we can get a player like Scherzer who is a difference maker down the road. I’m not raising the white flag on this season at all. I think Chaim looked at the cost/benefit of the market and decided to punt on the trade deadline. The reason we have had such a great season is due to Chaim in the first place. If JD doesn’t hit, we are f’d anyway. Jmho

Selling off parts at the deadline would’ve made my head spin but I’ll be damned if it wasn’t tempting to get in on that feeding frenzy. Ottavino could’ve probably netted us a nice pair of prospects.

Well said. Yes, they had to buy something. But our farm system is still a long way from where it needs to be. And if we went crashing through the luxury tax, boom.. I don't care if the owners have to pay 50% tax. It ain't my money. But I do care if it means they don't have money to resign our own talent. We just might still have Mookie today if this team had not gotten in so deep. And I do care if we start losing draft picks and access to the international free agents.

Tomorrow feels like a really important game. If the Sox come in here and get swept by their chief competitor while they and everyone else restocked and we pretty much stood pat, it’s gonna be kind of a kick in the balls.

Did Tampa restock?

EDIT--they got Cruz, who is 4-26 since they acquired him. I'll take my chances with Schwarber vs Cruz
