He's the 2nd pitcher ever to hit two grand slams in one season. The other? Former Red Sox pitching coach Tony Cloninger, when he was with the Braves. He actually hit both in the same game (7/3/1966) -- and he did it at Candlestick as he went the distance to beat the Giants. It was also Cloninger's second two-HR game of the year, as he'd hit 3-run and 2-run shots just a couple of weeks earlier (6/16/1966), also in a CG win.

I've taken a full-speed batted softball to the bridge of my nose to similar effect and I still cringed a bit looking at the pics.

I also remained conscious and walked off the field under my own power, but I was most definitely concussed, stumbling around, and without my wits. He handled it like a champ.
Same here. These always make me cringe. In HS a group of us went a hitting clinic at the local JC. Standing behind a cage talking and a line drive comes through the seam in the netting catching me in the eye and nose flush. Broke my nose and weakened my retina quite badly at the time. My savior from further damage was that I was wearing glasses at the time. Those suckers flew a good 25 feet away apparently but saved me from a broken orbital and much worse eye damage. Never lost consciousness and wanted to go home and have dinner as I was hungry. They instead transported me to the hospital.

One fun side note. This was just before my 16th birthday. Not only did I get my license a few days late but my first license had a black eye on it from the after effects.

Glad to see Cowgill only has the broken nose and thumb. Could have been much worse for him.

Bumgarner called Tulowitzki and asked about being in the home run derby for the NL. Who knows how serious of a request it was, but maybe Tulo should have said yes. Bum hits fastballs great and puts on a show in BP when he's thrown straight balls, of course. He's not so good hitting curves, but he wouldn't have to worry about those in the derby.

That would have been awesome. I'm pretty bummed that didn't come to pass.

He is kind of a quiet guy publically, but everybody on the team says he is jokester. He was probably kidding.

I remember a story about him when he was still in the minors. Game ended and everyone was on the bus waiting for Bumgarner. Finally, a few folks got off to look for him. They found him in some nearby bushes looking for a possum because he wanted to turn it loose on the bus.

Zach Britton had a bad night. Cespedes swinging bunt, Moss broken bat flair to shallow right, then a Donaldson blast. From 4-2 Orioles to a 5-4 A's win in 6 pitches.

Carl Crawford is just as awful fielder in left for the Dodgers as he was for the Red Sox -- his days of great range in Tampa are long gone.

The Cardinals are teeing off on Greinke in the first inning.

His skill-set was based on tremendous athleticism; he lost it so much faster than I would have imagined.

Thank God the Sox were able to get rid of that contract. Really is sad though, he was such a force in Tampa.

The big A's - Cubs trade is looking sour for the A's right now. Jason Hammel just gave up two HRs in the first inning to the O's. Samardzija gave up two 2 run homers last night, although they were saved by Donaldson's walkoff 3 run job. A's gave up two phenoms and a decent pitcher for those guys.

Phenomenal pitching duel in Anaheim tonight.  Felix vs. Garrett Richards.  Richards had a perfect game into the sixth inning, and then gave up a run to make it 1-0 Seattle.  Felix gave up a run of his own in the bottom of the seventh, after his defense failed to turn a double play on what was called an infield hit by Kendrick.

Going into the eighth now, tied at 1.

Sonny Gray is throwing lots of zeros at the Orioles -- 7 pitches to get through the 4th inning. The Red Sox West lead 3-0.

Even more satisfying: the Os are playing stupid. Jones started to run off the field with only two outs and most of the guys followed him. Shot of Showalter with his hand over his mouth.
Unfortunately, the Os just scored. Now 1-4.

1 draft pick away from getting him instead of Matt Barnes. What a shame.

So Fernando Rodney shot an arrow at the LAA dugout at the end of the inning. Problem was it was the end of the 8th. Not the 9th. He then blew the save and the game on the 9th.
And Mike Trout and Albert Pujols shot arrows at each other and Rodney.

Rosenthal just hit Hanley in the wrist/hand with a 99 mph fastball. Doesn't look good.
Not a good night for him. He got a fastball off his shoulder earlier in the game, not sure if it's the one that's bothered him all year. Adrain G. Got the game winning hit for the Dodgers.

how the hell was Chris Perez allowed to walk four in a row and NOT get pulled?

And that super slow hook most likely cost the dodgers the game in PIT

AJ Burnett pitching for the Phillies tonight against the Giants. There was about a one hour rain delay in about the 4th inning. AJ came back out after the delay, has pitched the whole game (8 innings now) and is at 131 pitches. They say he may be on the block/on display, but this is way old school. I guess Ryne Sandberg is that. Heard Pirates may be interested in bringing him back. Yankees too?

Jim Johnson is an absolute dumpster fire for the A's.  They are going to have to release him.  Can't win 'em all, Billy.

One of the keys to the game on the Giants' broadcast was "Puig v. Lincecum" and I said to my son, "That's silly -- Lincecum has to pitch well against everyone for the Giants to win."  He's going to laugh at me when he sees the box score.

Per Vinny, Puig's 11 total bases without a home run is a Dodgers record.
Yeah, makes sense. That is a lot without the help of a four bagger. The record for triples in a game by one player is 4, I believe, both times in the 19th century. Puig has one more AB guaranteed, unless Mattingly pulls him (don't know why he would).
