THe open floor ball handling looks better, thats for certain. However his head is down and he is of a single interest. That part of the game won't translate. More interested in his cuts without the ball, and form on his jumper... I think there is one shot of a cut to the lane. -but not enough to understand the context.

He's certainly slicing up the defense in those clips, but again, you have to wonder how good (bad) that defense is. I know he's in a more competitive league now, so out of curiosity I looked it up: LNB Pro A, the top league in France. Here ESPN has LNB Pro A ranked 7th among non-NBA leagues around the world.

Why does he need to do a stepback? Who is going to contest that shot if he just takes a normal set shot?
Anyone 6'8 or taller? He's not 8 feet tall, he still needs to create some space when guarded by opposing big men (it may end up being easier for him to do to the dirk one legged fadeaway). It's incredibly impressive that he's doing it now, at age 18, even against players that clearly can't contest his shot at all.

Juhann Begarin scored 25 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, dished out 7 assists, made 4 steals and one block in the French Basketball League all star game on December 30.

Victor Wembanyama was named MVP, but disagreed with his own selection. "I don't really understand it when I see that Juhann [Begarin] had a PIR of 38, and I had 32. Almost no stat of his was below mine."
"I doubt why he was not voted MVP but I think he deserves it anyway," Wembanyama added.

If everything else is working for him, that's the easiest thing to fix. Unless there's some reason to think that he has the yips or something, I'm not worried. They need to get him a shooting coach and make it a point of emphasis. He'll likely never be great with a FT% like that, but he could get to "tall Rondo". That's a good player.

I'm already a fan of Wembanyama...what a great quote to give. I feel like he will end up being a good leader for whatever team ends up with him.
Right out of the Tim Duncan/David Robinson playbook so you know the Spurs will land him. Whoever gets this kid is going to get such a fun player to root for. Sooooo glad the Lakers have no shot at him. That would keep me up the night before the draft lottery.

It really feels like the only thing between him and a HOF level career is health. I said that awhile back, but he'd be in better shape if he were 4 inches shorter. Maybe a slightly lesser prospect, but I'd feel better about him longterm.

FWIW, I commentated on Paris Basketball's EuroCup game against Slask Wroclaw this evening, and Begarin was prominently involved (#23 for the team in white):

You can see the physical tools he has - but man, he was SUPER rough out there. The total opposite of polished. The number of alley-oop passes that didn't come off in addition to the ones that are shown in the highlights here, the number of poor shots he took and bad decisions he took...from where I'm standing, he seems a long way from the NBA. (Just one game, I know - against a Polish team that was 1-14 in EuroCup this season before tonight, mind you - but still.)

Yeah. He looks like he belongs there.

Scrolling back to last year we debated here how well Begarin was developing as a player. I was discouraged on the growth he showed from 18 to 19 while others weren’t. It’s hard to tell from clips but this summer he should be one of the better SL players in July or else his value will plummet even from where it is currently and we can probably safely move on from him having an impact on a contender anytime soon.

European stashed 18yr old, 2nd rounders are the ultimate lottery tix. I'll save you the suspense, Begarin & Yam aren't impacting the Celtics anytime soon.

Brad is probably hoping they develop overseas, raise their profile and become an asset (late/mid 1st-round value) to trade. You'd have to be a pretty special 20yr old to break into the Celtics rotation

Indeed. The youngest rotation members for the Celtics are Grant and Tatum, and the only younger player on the roster is Davison.
