Man you are fast.

This explains the Sanu trade even more.

He got hurt on the fumble return play right? Man that extra sucks.

N'Keal Harry, come on down.

Sucks. There was a video of him at practice today where he was still moving with a noticeable limp. Sucks it happened on the play it did, should never have had to be in that position making a tackle.

Hope he's back in 2020.

God damnit.

Sure hope I’m not wondering if Brown would have made a difference at the end of the season.

I LOVE the Josh Gordon story. I know this is contrarian, but I wonder if the offense flows better when he is out.

Edelman
Sanu
Dorsett
Meyers
Gunner
Harry

It's still a solid receiver room.
Finished last year off with Edelman/Hogan/Dorsett/Patterson. This definitely hurts on a couple different levels but this group is better, especially if Harry can make an impact. The OL remains the biggest concern.

So they must have been keeping mum and holding him off the IR to prevent other teams from gaining the upper hand in negotiations.
He was at practice today, so I’d guess they legit weren’t sure.

I wonder if there is another trade coming soon - they could have put Gordon on IR to give Sanu a spot. Instead they cut Tomlinson, so there's still a spot. Though of course it could just be for a street FA at a different position.

Last year's group included Gronk, who was a massive part of the passing game and even well past his prime was able to stretch the field. You can add in Watson, White and Burkhead and there are lots of solid options here, but no credible deep threat which puts a ceiling on how effective their offense can be. This is a huge loss.

How does a player go from maybe he can play to IR in a day, after a week+ of medical diagnosis? That doesn't seem right.
It’s possible it was a “see if you can manage the pain” injury, I dunno. What’s the purpose of faking teams out today?

Well that sucks, both for him and for us.

Wonder how much Sanu would have been (4th rounder? 5th?) if Atlanta agreed in the offseason as rumored.

I doubt Gordon is getting a massive payday next season, so it would seem they might not think highly of him as a player if they’re already ruling him out for good.

Maybe it’s like 3 more weeks to heal, but they don’t want him and are giving him a chance to land and play elsewhere rather than get stuck on IR all year for us?

So, if I'm understanding this, it's largely a roster space move?

They expect him to recover before the end of the year but they don't want to hold a spot for him while he does, and so they will waive him so he can sign with a new team after he's healthy?

I'm really surprised by that. They can't hold a spot for him for three or four weeks? He seems worth it.

Seems strange that they are just "moving on".

If he was going to be sidelined say 6-8 weeks (or less), I'm surprised they wouldn't just let him sit as inactive for that time and get him healthy for the playoffs. If he's going to be sidelined longer than that, then he is not playing this season anyway.

Unless they really think he's basically done. His cap hit is only $2M, so I can't figure this out.

Sounds like they are releasing him, but since he's technically somewhat hurt they put him on IR first (?)

Plus it saves cap space I bet.
I think they only save cap space if he gets claimed off waivers, which he very well may.

Yeah, the money is fully guaranteed as an RFA, so he’ll need to get claimed. One million closer to Alex Mack!

Is there a rule that you can't cut an injured player?

Anyway, one would think this has to mean that they need a spot immediately. Even if that's true, I can't believe Gordon was the best candidate to create a spot unless there's something signficant behind the scenes.

So does this mean that the Patriots believe he wasn't performing to the cap space he was taking up? Or is there another shoe to drop? I don't get this as a pure football decision unless he was having trouble picking up the playbook - but that would have been shown to be true long ago. Maybe he was showing signs of slipping on the off the field, and they were trying to get in front of it? Maybe they don't believe they can improve the OL, so they need all receivers with quick separation? Or... or... or...

Damn, a lot of confusion here... especially given the Garafolo tweet.

Saying it was due to old injury not new one then saying old one was exacerbated by new one is odd. I mean, that’s new info.

But, it makes little sense they’d go all offseason with him then this.

I honestly think BB just values the other WR on the roster more moving forward. Seems a defensible position, honestly. It probably comes down to him vs. Harry.

I don't think there's one main reason, but a combination of roster crunch, what they've seen from him struggling to get separation and the Sanu and Harry additions. If Harry can win a few jump balls and not be a labor stability risk it makes sense.

Still sucks, I was really rooting for him and still will.

Quoting myself -- Miguel says that they get cap relief as soon as he's released because his salary is not guaranteed, but they cannot release him until he's healthy or they reach an injury settlement with him.

Seems like a strange way to free up the cap space, but Bill has been known to do the unconventional.

Sorry Ed..You mentioned the name "Mack" before and the only Mack I could think of was Khail Mack and I had a post already to go blasting you for 3 reasons :Chicago won't let him go 2) he must a lot of money 3) the Pat's defense does not really need him. Luckily I have edited my post. ALEX Mack the o lineman would look nice in a Pat's jersey and would fill a need. Still it's funny what my original thought was
