Um, ok.

I would have preferred the 12 pick and another second or two...

Edit - Rapshit says that was never offered.

I can't figure this team out. Two QB trades in one season.

I never figured they were going to franchise him and I did not think Brady was moving on, but I'm still stunned by this. The timing at least.

Weren't they being offered more in the offseason when Schefter remained adamant Jimmy wouldn't be traded? Strange.

So we have no backup QB?

If Brady goes down, it really is 'season over'.

I was frankly skeptical the dream packages this past offseason were ever on the table, and you're gonna have to pony up serious cash to sign him, so not surprised at the return. I am surprised they pulled the trigger without an obvious backup plan.

So either
#1 - the offers supposedly on the table were fake news
#2 - BB has more confidence in Brady/Oline after 8 weeks and felt confient in trading JG
#3 - JG was causing issues in the locker room
#4 - They realized they wouldn't be able to retain him now and decided to get *something* for him.

Have to assume they could have gotten a 2nd rounder in 2018 from SF this offseason...

Shocked Cleveland wasn't the one panic buying a QB.

Do they have someone on D who they will throw in? A second and an immediate help D player makes a bit more sense.

If it really is only a 2nd rounder....I have no idea what BB is doing. He needs defensive help this year and it was reported that he could have got at least one first rounder in this past draft.
I live in San Francisco; I know it will be a high 2nd rounder, but still super curious.

Well, good for Jimmy G I guess. He deserves to play. I wonder if that pick will be used elsewhere for a trade? Who is the back up now?

I. Just. Don't. Understand. How is this better than what they could have gotten in the offseason?
I guess there’s value in making sure Brady performs well and lasts half the season?

I mean, if they weren’t going to franchise him, this makes sense now. I just don’t understand probably turning down what Cleveland wanted.

Who knows how accurate that was? Jimmy G is a great backup but he's going to be due a significant raise, that clearly factored into their thinking. That and Brady's apparent lifetime supply of avocados.

I'm honestly fascinated to see how he plays in SF.

Brady has been banged up for a few weeks, we no longer have Brissett and NOW we deal Jimmy G? While in the off season we turned down (at least) the #12 overall for him? (There was a shit ton of fire to those rumors, I have a very hard time believing the "a number one pick PLUS" scuttlebutt was fake.) This is so weird.

Well, maybe they liked 2018 better than 2017? And probably Cleveland wasn't really offering what they were reported to be offering in the off season.

Also, if you're going to trade for a 2018 pick, doing it with an 0-8 team is a lot safer than in the preseason when you can't be quite sure whether they will be good or not.

Guess they wanted to make sure Brady wouldn't fall off at 40, and he isn't. Could you had a lot more in this past offseason but it's Brady for 4 more years now. Go get him some help

If you like 2018 better than 2017, take the 2017 first and trade it back into 2018 for a first plus...

Is it SF's own pick? They have New Orleans' as well but that should be much lower.

This is basically a first rounder if it's their own. Pretty good return. I assume if TB gets hurt they will just run some kind of set with three RBs or something and win anyway.

I would worry about TB missing like four games and knocking them out of home-field or something but if TB was hurt during the playoffs they're not winning shit so I can't get too torn up about not having a backup.

I do think JG will be at least an average starter but what do I know.
