It seems pretty difficult to draft and develop starting QBs, and there are few certainties in the talent pool. But the fact that they seemed to get it right with JG, and that a couple of other teams seem to have done well recently (Eagles / Wentz, Rams / Goff, KC / Mahomes, Texans / Watson) leads to optimism that the Pats can do it again in the next 2-4 years before Brady hangs them up.

(lots of hedging in there I know; getting used to the mocking though :))
We’re ready to say KC did well with Mahomes? After 35 passes? Mmmmkay.

Meh, Boston fans did it first when Bourque was traded to Colorado. We have no leg to stand on.

Edit: Fuck, he even got a parade in Government Center.
Bullshit. Bourque was with the Bruins for 20ish years, screwed around by them in arbitration, and generally surrounded by bums by Sinden, and Jeremy Jacobs is the antichrist. The situations are comparable if you're as capable of nuance as a jelly donut.

Sorry I did not make a 1:1 comparison because they don’t exist while there are very strong comps and sorry you are unable to take a flippant one liner for what it is.

I haven't watched a Bruins game since. Jacobs cheapskated my childhood. Any hint of a comparison between him and Robert Fucking Kraft--however flippant--is an affront.

Not gonna happen. He’s going to get something like 3/50 added on to his existing deal. He’s always taken less and it’ll take him through age 44-45.

Why? They were always going to treat him like their QB of the future. Unless you think more FA will be attracted there because of him over more money, I don’t see it. They have less cap space now because they played him. Of course, they’re still in fantastic shape overall.
They still have a ton of cap space and now they're selling free agents on joining a potential playoff team versus joining a rebuilding project that could go 6-10. That works out pretty well for them.

Please point out on the doll where Mr. Jacobs touched you as well as where in my post I made the comparison.

Also Jeremy Jacobs is a fine owner in today's NHL.

He doesn't even have to be really good. They structured the contract so that if he's terrible and they cut him in 2 years they've already given him most of his guarantee and there's almost no dead money (Check out the first year roster bonus vs. the almost non-existent signing bonus).

It's a win-win contract. Jimmy G is getting his guarantees, the Niners front loaded it when they have more cap space than anyone else in the league (Now they have the third most) and, in the unlikely event that they want too, they can get out of it in 2 years (because the NFL's non-guaranteed contracts suck).

He gets it —

Which is probably a big reason why B.B. blew Shanahan off at the Combine last year

It was an unsolvable problem from the Pats standpoint. If we were talking about a mere Montana rather than Brady, B.B. probably would have moved on after this year, with Kraft’s blessing.

I still think BB blew him off at the Combine last year more because he wasn't sure that Brady would perform at an MVP level rather than Jimmy being a future hall-of-famer, but your mileage may vary.

Some of each maybe. But JG clearly valued highly.

Once JG turned down extension, reportedly valued at $17 or $18, we were done.

JG tagged 2018 — $23.5

TB cap number 2018 — $22

Yup. I think that is the main reason he got traded. Once it became clear Brady was still Brady, there was no way to extend Jimmy (especially as he deserved starter $ probably before his audition in SF - he is one of the 32 best QBs in the league) at a cheap enough rate.
