So Coach is on Kay’s show. Towards the end Kay says “I’m sure you didn’t see it but today on ESPN Rex Ryan went after you pretty hard” Kay reads the quote and asks Saleh if he has a response. Saleh says, very icily, I don’t know Rex, I have never met Rex, this sounds awfully personal to him and if it is, he knows where to find me”
That's pretty sweet.

Rex Ryan is a loudmouthed asshole. He is just a bad dude.

His career indicates he wasn't a very good operator when working in football. But he acts like he's Belichick or Lombardi.

I’m a Rex hater from way back BUT I’m a natural diplomat. Some of my closest colleagues call me this as an insult.

He went 4-12 against Belichick and touts that as if he owned him.

I’m honestly fine with Zach sitting the rest of the season. No point getting the kid killed in his rookie season, let him sit and watch, then give him a fresh chance next season behind a (hopefully) better line

This is the best path. Let him see how it’s done (or not done) and use draft picks, FA to upgrade OL and get a reliable target. Put him in a position to succeed.

Well, Mike White, it’s better to burn out than to fade away.
Heh, this reminds me of the scene in "North by Northwest" where the committe of American counterspies agrees to burn Roger Thornhill rather than potentially exposing their own counterspy. Fits here too.

Just saw that if Flacco plays >50% of snaps for four games, the pick they traded for him changes from the Bucs' 6th to the Jets' 5th. No way they let that happen, right?

I agree with this take but I don't like this situation.
So as an objective Jets fan, do you agree that Ryan inherited a very good roster, went to back to back AFCCG's and then the Jets went downhill because he was not a good coach, or do you think he was a good coach who took a Jets team to back to back AFCCG's and got the most out of them?

Rex Ryan coached a team that was so good some people thought they could win the Super Bowl. Which is apparently just as good as actually winning a Super Bowl. Those Jets teams were nearly as accomplished as the Knick Dynasty of the 1970’s.

I’ve always loved that their claim to fame was back to back AFC Championship games. It’s a really hard thing to do. I mean the Colts hung a banner for a single one!

Then after the Jets accomplished this immortal feet the Pats went to, um, the next 8 in a row.

It’s the only factual take. I wrote this back in 13 defending Mangini

…..

Mangini went 10-6 year 1

Pennington was out year 2

Jets were 8-3 before Favre got hurt and collapsed down the stretch,

Mangini's wins 10, 4, 8
Rex's wins are 9,11,8,6,8

Getting to b2b conference championship games is good, Just because the Pats are better doesn’t mean that isn’t good.

My problem is that the first AFC games was smoke and mirrors because Rex is so bad. We should not have made the playoffs that year. The Colts threw a game to us and then we got lucky to catch perennial chokers Bengals and Chargers.

The next year was legit talent. All the Mangini talent plus FA pickups and we still only went 11-5. Sanchez was hot in the playoffs and we blew the Steelers game.

All shit after that. We have had the one decent Fitz year, that’s it. 98 was the best team of my life that I remember watching.

Both runs were total BS. But they did it, so credit to them.

But the point is the Pats then renamed the AFCCG to the Brady Invitational.

People forget how he turned a Buffallo defense from a top 5 unit into dogshit within two years.

He rode daddies coattails and Rob rode Rex's. Boxcars of failure on that train.

Thanks for reminding me why I hate Patriots fans. Congratulations, you’re the NFL’s version of Yankees fans!
Yea, his comments were annoying in a jets forum.

but no, most Yankees fans can’t even remember what they brag about, so don’t compare them to pats fans

So - he's both the starter and the backup to the backup to the backup.

Is Ken Tremendous wrong? Is THIS is the most Jets thing ever?
The Jetsiest thing about the Jets is that there is no limit to their Jetsiness. They will continue to Jet in ways you can't even imagine.

Jets vs Pats 1st round picks from 2001-2020.

Total 1st round picks
- Jets: 25
- Pats: 18

Avg 1st round pick selection
- Jets: 13.9
- Pats: 23.2

Avg career AV (from pro-football-reference) of each 1st round selection
- Jets: 31.8
- Pats: 45.6

TOT career AV of all 1st round selections
- Jets: 794
- Pats: 821

Top 3 selections
- Jets: Revis (2007, 93 AV); Mangold (2006, 73 AV); S. Moss (2001, 72 AV)
- Pats: Mankins (2005, 102 AV); Seymour (2001, 91 AV); Wilfork (2004; 90 AV)

So picking an average of 10 spots worse on an annual basis, and having seven fewer 1st round picks over those 20 years, the Pats drafted far more total AV, and far more AV on average.

It's not like the Jets always have swung and missed. They've had some really good first round selections. But given where they regularly draft, especially compared to the Patriots, it's amazing just how much better in the first round the Pats have been compared to the Jets.

Which is, of course, one reason why the Jets are the Jets and the Pats are the Pats.

One of my favorite parts of the documentary "The two Bills" was when they were strolling through Giants stadium walking down memory lane and the producer wanted them to go into the Jets locker room/section of the stadium; they both gave it a hard pass.

I wonder if deep down Parcell's regrets leaving the Patriots to go coach the Jets; his relationship with Kraft may have been too far gone to save, but still, I do wonder.
