To be fair he used a 1st and 4th last year on linemen (and Becton looks like a beast) and both are on IR. Also used a top 15 pick on a guy this year, so a bit early to see how he'll turn out surrounded by garbage. So he's invested in what he hopes should be 3/5 of his line...and injuries have short circuited it.
Honestly Becton looked like trash this season and preseason before the injury. His weight is a significant problem.

He looked good last year, I didn't see much of him this year, but he only got 44 snaps in season, so I'd be willing to cut him some slack on working his way into shape.

I simply do not understand personnel or coaching in the NFL. On Dline, we got this guy Jonathan Franklin Myers off the scrap heap (Rams cut him) and he is a legitimately very good player, we have a UDFA Huff that is pretty good but we can’t block for like 10 fucking years now? What the hell is going on. Why are guards so hard to find? I don’t need Larry Allen but c’mon man.

Becton and AVT next to each other are both better in run blocking than pass pro but they can get better. Some of Becton’s problem seem to be learning the new scheme. Is he a little fat, sure but he isn’t that fat for his height

Dude he’s 364 pounds (caveat: according to a quick google search). That’s pretty overweight, even for 6’7”

For someone on the Oline? That's a BMI of 41.3. Compared with the Pats starters:

Brown: 41.7
Onwenu: 43.7
Mason: 40.9
Andrews: 37.5
Wynn: 39.8

Becton might have a weight problem, but you can't tell just by checking his height/weight.

the jets have a underrated def they just need a o-line and a te and some CB and u guys couild win 8-9 games next season
You have to wonder why teams like the Jets bother to waste high first round picks on QB's when they have so many other needs.

So they get an offensive line, some CB and a TE next year, then win 8 games, then what?

This kid will get killed after two years of running for his life.

They would have been better served trading that pick and stockpiling draft picks.........the Patriots stunk when they had Plunkett, they traded him for a stockpile of picks and hit on them and were a competitive team for 5 years, look what happened to Dallas after the Walker trade, they went on to win three Super Bowls.

Aikman was 1 overall and went 1-15 I thought, I’m going to look it up.

edit: wiki has -Aikman finished 1989 with a 0–11 record as a starter, completing 155 of 293 passes for 1,749 yards, 9 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.

btw. Your overall point is fine, the Aikman example is just not making your point.

Because finding a franchise QB may be the hardest thing to find in sports. It may work out, like it did with Dallas (but there was no way they were getting THAT haul). Take the latest example...Rams and Titans for Goff. Of the haul that the Titans received, only Derrick Henry remains (that IS a huge piece, I'll grant you that). But the Rams made and almost won a SB, while staying competitive (and borderline top 8 franchise) for 5 years after the trade.

Also, regarding the J-E-S-Ts, any excuse to post this video...

He has half a point though. Drafting the QB is good letting him get his ass kicked is not.

NY/NJ Football Since 2017

Jets: 18-49
Giants: 18-49

Just an absolutely putrid stretch.

Living somewhat locally it is strange how much more shit the Jets get from the local media. I understand why (Past SBs) though I’m not sure that is logical. The media likes Judge cause he talks like a tough guy but has no results playing in a garbage division.

Yup. I live in NJ, about 30 mins from the Meadowlands, and the Giants are simply covered much differently than the Jets. I know that is Lombardi-related but it’s amazing how much goodwill they got by beating the Pats twice. Couple guys in my neighborhood were talking them up as big sleepers this year and I kind of smiled and said, “suuuuure”.

Aikman was also quickly surrounded by high priced talent in a pre salary cap era. Not a great comparison.

I get your point about finding a franchise QB may be the hardest thing to find in sports, but it's sort of pointless if there are little to no offensive line or offensive weapons for him. You're basically setting him up to fail.

Imagine what a culture shock it is for a kid like Lawrence to come from a program like Clemson where they were loaded his entire time there and he lands in Jacksonville, or to some extent Jones with the Patriots.

With Jones, I'm thinking more along the lines of did he see this sort of defensive pressure in college like he's seen in the first three games here?

What did he have, something like 17 "hurries" vs the Saints?

Any thoughts on Darnold and what his issues were with the Jets that caused them to give up on him and start over?

Also, what is your opinion as to how he's doing so far in Carolina?

The thing is, they could sit him. Get the guy, sit him, fill out the roster.

On Darnold, the conundrum was this and the GM basically said it on local radio spots, we are bad at a lot of positions and Sam was set to get expensive and not a sure thing. If Darnold and Rookie X cost the same they would have kept Sam and used the draft pick on some other need. Instead they traded Sam for a 2nd and got a QB they like on a rookie deal.

Jets fans and brass know they fucked Sam with no oline. Shit, I still root for the guy and he won nothing with us.

If it was up to you, would you have kept Darnold, paid him and traded the pick and see what sort of a haul you could get, or would you cut bait with him and start over?

I was torn on this. I get attached to players. I might have wanted to keep Sam. I think the GM made the smart calculated move though. If you only saw Wilson against the Pats that was his worst performance. The kid has a gun, is game and can move. He has more upside than Sam. Will we ruin him, probably, but I think it was the smart choice. This oline combined with drops yesterday was tough to watch.

But that's ok, that's what fans do, they get attached to players. If you have a rooting interest in a team, getting attached to certain players is part of the process.

I'd hate to see this kid run for his life for four years, then move on and you have to start over again.

As a fan, you hang in there and hope for the best, I hope it works out for you.

God they’re just non-competitive every game. I mean I get that they have injuries but it’s just mind-blowing how outclassed they are every single game

This has to be the big worry. The Lions are winless, but they've hung in there against a lot of teams this season.

Toward the end of last season, I feel like there was some sentiment that the Jets' defense was looking feisty and that a competent offense might make them at least a presentable team. The competent offense hasn't emerged and the D seems to have taken a significant step backwards.

I was “spared” most of the second half because I got some nasty side effects from my booster shot that knocked me on my ass.

Not being ready to play off the bye is terrible. Running over the RG, the worst player in the team, on 3&2 and again on 4th and 2 was absurd

In all fairness I don’t know of any Jets fan who thought the Gase hiring was anything but a disaster in the making
Gase is looking like a wizard compared to Mike LaFleur. He scripted plays to score on the first drive of the game regularly. He probably had more dcoring drives with Darnold on the first drive than LaFleur has scripted first downs.

I saw it tied the record for worst loss post bye, all time. Yikes.

Well, I was thinking that, beyond the 6th, they might win some games, worsening their other draft picks. But you're right, that probably won't happen.

To a degree that’s true but they will not be drafting a QB and if for some reason they fall in love with a player they have the ammo to move around. Also I don’t think Flacco is going to win games but he is at least a professional.
